If I may make a suggestion for the next ‘spicy’ run. Russia can become “The Union of the New People” and have a pitch black flag, and a black map colour. You need State Atheism, Presidential or Parliamentary Republic, and a Nihilist leader. It’s a badass name. And I could see it being a multicultural autocracy conquering Eurasia.

@@code8825 Flag is indeed a vanilla flag. The hard part, really, is getting a Nihilist ruler. Because the conditions to making Nihilist leaders spawn is kind of a pain. You usually end up creating enough radicals in the country to instead start getting Radical (aka Jacobin) leaders instead, or, avoiding revolution, make the Intelligentsia happy enough to spawn Positivists instead. Which ends up either deposing the Monarchy (and Nihilists only spawn in Monarchies), or making the Intellectuals insignificant (which breaks a different Nihilist spawn condition). So you somehow need the Intellectuals politically powerful enough to depose the regime, angry enough to spawn Nihilists instead of Positivists, but not angry enough to turn into a Jacobin revolution.

@@hashtagrex It's difficult for Russia in particular, because by the time Russia is eligible (year at least 1862) for the event that spawns their historical Russian Nihilist, most players will have managed to reform Russia to the point that they're no longer eligible due to their laws (usually swapping from State Religion to Freedom of Conscience). Meanwhile, Player German nations have it especially easy, because the event is set up to give a player German nation first dibs on the historical German Nihilist, and they get access to it much earlier, in 1844.

I played Haiti before and it is difficult to make much progress but if you get a Colonial Institution early you can focus on taking tiny colonies in states where the great powers are dominant and then you can trade away those colonies for more land at home. I was able to get the entire west Indies by just colonizing iirc Togo(to trade with Denmark for their singular island) and once I had an island each subsequent island trade had a +25 modifier to accepting since I was just completing the state. I sold most of my colonies in Niger and the Sahel and ended up with the West Indies and a monopoly on Saharan Africa which has Iron in Mauretania Sulfer and Coal in Mali and even Lead in Niger if you can get that far. You can incorporate African land really quickly since past the Maghreb areas it's all Homeland to at least one African Heritage culture and you can definitely make a decent enough base off that. I got to the 1860s I think and had a pretty good colonial base set up and it's definitely a slower nation but not an awful one. Also you can make bank by just farming Tobbaco and exporting it worldwide. Those trade routes are crazy.

@@eragon4249 if anything was at all reliable in that region then I would genuinely consider Sikkim but the UK and the raj both seem to be pretty random in terms of deciding to slaughter the nations in the area or not. That and besides China you kinda have to protecterate yourself to the British and that gets messy fast.

@katelundberg2029 I had a really good run going once as Sikkim, where i (still independent) took over all of tibet, modern pakistan and burma by the 1880s and I ticked just barely over the 100 infamy limit (accidentally) and all of europe came to bring the hammer down on me. I think I was playing on ironman or had no recent saves, so i couldnt save the run😔

They initially ignored the French demand for payment and they were fine; they just traded with the other European powers. Britain especially was happy to buy Haitian goods and spite France. This changed when the first president of Haiti was assassinated and the new guy decided to murder the white people in Haiti; including the ones who helped in the Revolution against France. The rest of the European nations then embargoed Haiti in response and France got to force Haiti to repay its "debts".

A tip for smaller countries is to actually not build a construction sector or go to high taxes. This is because your first 10 construction is fully free, and when you build the first construction sector the private queue turns on and takes at least 2.5 construction away from you. The private queue also likes to build over your arable land which will lessen your migration attraction, and agriculture is not the best industry to use your population on. The reason you don't want to go high taxes is because the amount of construction you can add from increasing taxes is not worth the decreased legitimacy, radicals, and the like. Low taxes will increase your standard of living too, since you are taking less money from your population. Finally, going into debt can be fine sometimes. As your prestige grows and you become a major power, your interest rate decreases. This allows you to less painfully have a deficit, which will increase your construction and by proxy your economic growth. Also, your government income is not necessarily your economy, so seeing it go negative is not a horrible sign. One could argue that having a positive balance is actually bad for your economy since it removes money from your pops, which lessens their consumption, but I'm not good enough to elaborate there.

Here's a slightly off-the-wall suggestion for a Hoi4 Campaign: As vanilla poland, you can use spies to get collab governments on lithuania from game start thanks to being Non-Aligned. Using this knowledge, you can do two (one will also work, but two will be more reliable and let you take the decision earlier) collaboration governments on lithuania before turning democratic via the sanitation left focuses. If you do this, then go sanitation left and take the wargoals on lithuania you can very easily form a democratic PLC via the decision before stalin comes a-knocking AND also get rid of the horrible Danzig-related trade law thanks to owning another port. If you do it efficiently, you may even be able to take the decision to form the PLC before Danzig or War; although as the collaboration governments take a lot of civilian factories and leave you initially weaker, it may be worthwhile giving up Danzig at first. While not particularly effective if you have national supremacy overbuilding can be a very powerful tool. It raises competition which raises wages and attracts immigrants which can be a godsend for smaller states like Hati as long as you don't overbuild too much. Having vacant jobs is even calculated for migration now if I remember properly so while it won't fix your population problem overbuilding will help
