One of the best pocket knives in the world, the tiny Cadet is a frequent companion on all my adventuring and daily tasks. It is rugged, THIN, and lightweight. At one time it came in all the cool colors shown and each is a favorite. Tools are basic: large blade, small and large flat blade driver, nail file, can opener, cap lifter, and lanyard ring. You might miss the tweezers and toothpick in this mode that features Alox aluminum scales. Value is extremely high as in most Victorinox products. I recommend using Amazon.com for purchasing. It is good looking, extremely serviceable, and actually collectible too (discussed!). It is with me wherever I go. //////////////// Nutnfancy Likability Scale: 10 out of 10

Love it. I remember watching this vid when it was new and the Cadet still appears as a mainstay in TNP. I love my Cadet as well, along with all my other Vic tools. Wonderful stuff. Victorinox, as far as I'm concerned, is the absolute best value in knives.

I've been carrying a cadet for a long time, but never realized until I had to sew through ballistic nylon that the grips on a cadet can be used as a thimble to push a heavy duty needle through the fabric or leather. Who knew.

I got two Cadets, bought the second before they are gone. I carry it everyday. I love how it has three screwdrivers (yes the file tip is one to) and use it a few times a week. Brilliant knife.

I bought the silver cadet today, and I fully agree, this is one of victorinox absolutely best knifes ever. For you who dont have any victorinox yet and wonder about all the models, take a look at this one.

I have a huntsman without thehook. That is a pre 1991 issue! It's now a collectable, although mine has seen better days, as I havealways carried it since for more then 20 years! :D

LOVE the cadet! I would also love a model just like the cadet but also incorporating their leather punch/awl tool. I find it useful for different types of field repair tasks.

Best feature, the toothpick. That said, my first knife was a swiss army knife from my dad when I was 8. I'm 36 now and I still have that knife today and will give it to my son when he turns 8 or is responsible enough for one (I gave myself five stitches with mine as a kid). I'll probably only ever buy classic red swiss army knives.

I didn't even know that they existed until a month ago when I was looking at the knives at target. I had always wanted a victorinox with a red alox handle, and I was overjoyed when I found one for only $17. I kind of got worried when I heard that they were discontinued, but I managed to get one by Christmas. I am very happy with this knife. It does most of the tasks that I do anyways with my leatherman, but unlike the leatherman, it is very comfortable to carry in your pocket.

I hear you about that can opener. Years ago, when I used one fairly often, I could open a can with it as fast as I could with a dedicated crank style opener. For the knives with the smaller blades, what I used to do was make sure the small blade was always razor sharp and delegated the large blade to all tasks not requiring that sharpness. I could use a thinner angle and not worry about edge retention on the small one because it was rarely used. But you know how it is when you need ultra sharpness on occasion and there really is no substitute.

I ordered the standard silver one, I also have a alox bantam which is practically a single layer cadet. Also have a pioneer, 2015 limited edition pioneer and a farmer, which is my favourite pocket knife. I edc'ed my farmer for three years and now I carry it when I don't carry my charge AL.

Got two of these and an alox classic, gave the alox classic to my uncle today and one of these cadets to my Grandfather and he was over the moon! I kept one for myself in true green(not OD like yours). Got all 3 for NZ$60 which isn't bad, brand new without packaging. Used mine quite a bit already, got sick of carrying my Leatherman Juice XE6 on my keyring so hunted these down. Great review and Merry Christmas!

I picked up an orange Cadet a couple of weeks ago. Its so thin and light I sometimes forget its in my pocket. Its a great little knife.

I still have my Swiss Army Knife from the days of being a Boy Scout. I still carry it to this day. I have always liked with all of the toys as my mother would say. I know the cadet is smaller and lighter and it is cool looking. This time I will stick to the one I have had threw the years.

For any felllow geeks interested in steel, the blade steel is X50CRMO(RC 50). I don't carry one any more, but I have fond memories of the explorer model my dad gave me in 1989 (I was 8, he was a hero!) Nice change Nutn!

Hehe we in the swiss army used to get these knives in the silver version and i loved it. Now we got a new knive with a bigger knife and is a lot bigger... this used to do the job just fine...

The Victorinox Executive has been my EDC pocket knife for over 35 years... it has a "large" blade and smaller blade, scissors, nail file, orange peeler with a flat screw driver on the end, tweezers and tootpick... the nail cleaner on the end of the nail file can be used for a phillips screwdriver... having good scissors and a nail file is a must, as I'm always breaking or chipping a finer nail... I go crazy when I misplace it, but usually find it, but I now keep a spare just in case !

Good review. I like these knives. I looked at these and went with an Ontario camp knife for my survival kit which is much like a victorinox cadet ww2 style. Not quite as nice fit and finish but it's a much harder use tool.

Yeah I got a V. Recuit from 1956, my best pocket knife, I'm not sure how rare it is but that was the only year they used that certian logo on the blade.Granpaw got it overseas, then my dad now me.Great video, keep them coming.

Chad H Yeah, I bought this model for the blade/nail cleaner/beer opener. Doesn't really make sense to put a tin opener on it, cuz that's really for outdoor use, I'd have liked something else there.

I bought this knife based on this video. I like the slightly smaller size and especially the width. I have a Super Tinker, a Ranger, and a Classic. I use them all but the Cadet is the one that usually finds its way to my pocket (fits nicely in the watch pocket of my jeans). If I want a toothpick, tweezers, or scissors, I add a Classic to a back pocket. If I'm counting right, that's 11 functions on two knives I seldom notice I have with me unless I have a need for something. I like that.

I just got this one at target today for $17 based on your review nutn. It was the silver one. First impression is that I love it. I mean I just got it today so I can't say how well it holds up but it seems very nice in quality.

I love my Cadet. My friend made me a paracord lanyard that I put in the key ring. Before that I had it in my keychain. I literally forget it's there unless I think about it

Great review, as always, and I think it' s cool you' re finally reviewing a SAK. I do prefer the Farmer over the Cadet, but that gunmetal colored one is just beautiful!

The smaller blade is often sharper than the large one cause it's less often used. Plus it's more precise than the large blade. I have a 3-layer Victorinox which is nice but I don't really need all the tools on it on the go, so I'm considering getting either a smaller SAK to go on my key chain, which also includes file that I want, or a Cadet if it's light enough, cause it has a file too and I really like the aluminium cover.

I just got mine from mail. The package was a lot smaller than what you show in this vid, just so that the Cadet fits in. Mine is also metal/silver coloured.

Excellent review. I have the Cadet and I really like it. My only wish would be that it had a pair of scissors. I'd gladly have some scissors substitute the nail file. Any idea if there is a SAK with the Cadet like slimness but with scissors?
