If only Vic made the knives to order, so I could pick and chose which tools I want and have none that I do not require. I like yours, although I don't need any screwdrivers, and you have no scissor, which is a must for me. But I would like to have that looking glass!

Indeed, it would be great if Vic made knives to order. That would make a lot of people happy including myself.

three fantastic pieces!! The engineer is the most difficult to get. You have a new subscriber. Greetings.

Thank you! The engineer is indeed versatile and the technician screwdriver is very difficult to find. I still hope Victorinox revives it.

Excellent work!! I know that a lot of people like having the long screw driver/scraper that the Engineer has and the solution most of them seem to have used is modifying the Can opener by cutting off/filing down the front bladed portion and then removal of the rear hooked position and often reprofiling that area with a slant to give it a more reach.
@lemech
@lemech Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes, the long inline screwdriver is indeed difficult to find and reprofiling the can opener would be an option. Let's hope Victorinox brings the fine screwdriver back!

@@lemech Absolutely! but I won't hold my breathe on that one. I'd say there is as much a chance in that as there is to them reintroducing the 84mm Victorinox scissors. Or Leatherman actually bringing back the Juice line people love so much for good rather than just flash sales of New Old Stock / Sprint runs.

I think if someone requires a screwdriver often, its just much better to have a dedicated Stanley pen driver! It looks just like a marker pen, super light and very cheap! ...and you flip both pozzi driver ends to have two sizes of flat and two sizes of philips. Its so much more comfortable and ergonomic to use as well. In most cases in my opinion, sometimes it is better to have not all your tools on one thing, but split up can be more useful
@lemech

Yes, too many tools would make it bulky. That's why I prefer having only 2 layers. Victorinox is not a dedicated tool and it cannot perform some heavy duty jobs. But the thing about Victorinox is that most of the time, I have it with me. To me, it is a micro toolbox that comes in handy when I need to do a simple task. I have posted a bicycle trolley video showing that the Victorinox cannot do the job of a dedicated tool.

Thanks, finally I learnt the knife I always carry is the Scientist. I've lost my little screwdriver though and the pen is out of ink. I've wanted to buy another, now I know what to look for.

@@lemech Thank You. I really enjoy it and it's a "daily driver" so I believe collectors would just shed tears if the saw it :)
@lemech

@@sssxxxttt Collectors would envy you instead! It's a dilemma. On the one hand, you have such a beautiful original tool that you want to preserve and yet it's a 'waste' not to use it. The nice thing about building your own custom SAK is it suits what you want and you would tend to use it often without consciously attempting to keep it in mint condition. You can replace each tool that is damaged or worn out, especially those who use the blade a lot.

Originally, I thought of building a Yeoman Engineer as that would be a very comprehensive toolset. But having carried my Yeoman on several occasions, I still find it a bit on the thick side. So I decided to break it up into 2 builds, one 2 layer Compact Engineer with Scissors and one 2 layer Scientist Engineer. Between the 2, I still prefer the Scientist Engineer because the inline Philips is very handy and ergonomic, just like the fine screwdriver. And the magnifying glass is one of its kind.

I have a scissors version here kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e72gqdSgrbCdnpc.html. I was thinking about building a Yeoman with a fine screwdriver but I try my best to keep to 2 layers as I like the 2 layers form factor better.

Any tips on finding that technician screw driver? Is anyone making it?
@lemech
@lemech Жыл бұрын
That's a tough one. The ones I've seen are people taking the can opener and grinding it into a small screwdriver. Our hope is for Victorinox to revive or introduce a similar version. I always wonder what would take Victorinox to bring back a tool? 100K pieces? 1 million? 10 million? They brought back the 'original' soldier for a 'small' run. So, we never know....

The name of the knife in red is Victorinox Scientist and the part number is 1.6305 As for the knife in blue, the Victorinox Engineer, there is no part number. According to the website Sakwiki - "This was a 'custom' model not produced in large numbers and is fairly rare." You can find the website here : www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Victorinox+Engineer
