Logan explores the differences and updates in the new Victron Multi-plus II models, specifically the 12V options.
The MultiPlus-II 2 x120V is the perfect one-box mobile solution for standard North American 50A 120/240VAC split-phase applications. Whether it is supplied from shore power or a generator, the MultiPlus-II 2x120V can accept and passthrough both lines of a 120/240V supply, with the capability to utilize the full 50A for charging and AC loads. When connecting to a single phase 120V supply, the L1 input of the MultiPlus-II 2x120V will accept incoming power for charging and passthrough, while combining the L1 and L2 outputs for single-phase 120V on each line.
The MultiPlus switches to inverter operation when no AC source is available. The inverter output is also 120V single phase. In inverter mode, the MultiPlus-II 2x120V internally connects both lines L1 and L2 together to provide 120VAC to loads on either output. Therefore, in all connection circumstances, both sides of a distribution panel will be supplied with 120V. However, 240VAC is only available when the MultiPlus is supplied by a split phase 120/240VAC source. This prevents heavy loads such as water heaters or 240V air conditioners from discharging the battery.
The MultiPlus-II 2x 120V has all of the expected features of our versatile inverter/charger range, including PowerControl, PowerAssist, Input Current Limit, two AC outputs, as well as parallel and 3ph configuration for larger capacity VE.Bus systems. Suitable for LiFePO4 batteries and a variety of other battery technologies.

Thanks for the info. I'm configuring a system and I like the sounds of the multiplus 2 2x120v. But I don't no if it's best for a 24v system on a rv with a 30 amp system currently. Any thoughts would appreciated.

Excellent video, what is not clear to me is the benefits of the original Multiplus over the new Multiplus II. In what use case would the original be the right choice? Usually when a new model of something comes out the old one is no longer produced but I still see lots of installers using the old version. I can see that for replacement you might want to get an old one but for a new install I can not see why you would not always go with the Multiplus II or IIx2

@keithbar19741974 - The newer units MP-II ... The noise is much louder and the transformer hum is terrible. Consumers who installed the MP-II in an RV and even in a home are complaining about the noise.

Hi, for me if the original version was much cheaper and If I had the space than I would probably consider buying it. I'm researching my options to install a charger/inverter in my class C motorhome where I have space limitations.

I would also mention that the multiplus 2 has a lower idle consumption.

Is the charger power factor corrected? What is the power factor while charging?
@robbehr8806
@robbehr8806 Жыл бұрын
The Victron is manufactured in Europe, where rating in volt-amps is popular. For the 3000 VA version, I use a power factor of .8, which means 80% of the 3000 VA for converting to watts. So, the converted rating is 2,400 watts, which calculates to 20 amps at 120 VAC. BTW, most people try not to load any circuit for continuous use beyond 80% of maximum rating of the lowest rated component. Victron is really good, but a continuous load of 16 amps would be my maximum. I'd allow startup surges beyond that, but I limit running load to 16 amps.

@@NAZSolarElectric thank you, I appreciate it. And one more question. Is it 50amps. Input on 120v. And on the 2x120 50a for each leg? So 240v input on the 2x120v

I assume the multi plus 2 2x120 is a 3k watt total unit. Not 3k watt per leg?
@NAZSolarElectric
@NAZSolarElectric Жыл бұрын
From our engineering team: The Multi-II 2x120 is rated for an AC throughput of 50A (each leg). So the AC transfer is rated for 6kW per leg (typical of a common 50A RV Service) or 12kW total (at 240V). The inverter can invert and supply power (off-grid) up to 2.4kW (or 3kVA dependent on power factor). Several inverters can be added in parallel to increase the off-grid output proportionally. When the inverter is supplied with a 120V input, it will parallel L1/L2 and it can (in assist mode) boost the power output to both shared legs by up to +2.4kW (total). When provided a 240V input the inverter will split the legs (maintaining the split phase configuration) and in this mode the inverter will only support (assist) L1 with up to 2.4KW of boost power. For more information please feel free to reach out. Chat live on our website or call 1.800.383.0195

These are not as common here in the US but we can get you any inverter Victron offers. We typically stock the 120V version but most of the 230V versions are available with minimal lead time. Feel free to call our team so we can get you a quote. 1.800.383.0195

I find the Victron series of inverter/chargers to be very confusing and not really suited for the North American home market due to an apparent lack of support for split-phase 240v
@john0270
@john0270 Жыл бұрын
You need two units to run split phase 120/ 240.
@NAZSolarElectric
@NAZSolarElectric Жыл бұрын
From our engineering team: Victron inverters can be configured for native split phase output. We do this quite often and it involves stacking two inverters in a 180° offset orientation. One inverter would handle L1 and the other handles L2. It's a feature in the advanced configuration and it's possible with all Mufti and Quattro models. Victron products offer nearly unlimited configurability and there's really no other product on the market that compares. However, I do have to agree that some of these features can be very confusing. Luckily our team is here to help and support our clients with these advanced projects. We can even help by doing the configuration for you remotely, if needed.

I agree, why don't they just install the transformer from their autotransformer into these multiplus units?
@MrSummitville
@MrSummitville 11 ай бұрын
@@MrMinnesota99 You could. But their main market is Europe. Europe does not have 240v/120v Split Phase, like the USA. So, they sell one unit and allow the USA Dealer or consumer the option to add the Autotransfomer and/or stack two units in Split Phase mode.
