Aged up Chris Redfield looks amazing and exactly as I’d imagine. I think they should continue with aging up their characters, just introduce new ones (like Ethan & Rosemary Winters) to keep up with a young protagonist.

Take in account that , Chris at the end of RE8 already saw Ethans daughter grow another 16 years give or take. So now they are like 60-65 years old

I think in order to properly reintroduce Leon or Claire, one of two things needs to happen: 1.) They reintroduce them soon before the timeline officially makes them too old to be reasonably able to serve as protagonists. 2.) They need to make some sort of prequel like the Netflix series that shows what they did when other games were going on. Chris’ aging for RE8 was actually handled really well in my opinion. You can definitely tell that he’s a lot older, but now he’s much more like the grizzled veteran, especially with how he behaves in 8. So while he is older, he still can maintain that protagonist role should Capcom decide to make him one in a future game. But he’s getting to the point where if he goes too much further than where he is now, we won’t have Chris as a protagonist.

I’m surprised you didn’t talk about Yakuza. Kiryu Kazuma is 52 years old, drinks, smokes & still looks like he’s in his 30s. And those games have been going on since 2005, with the prequel being set in the 80s.

I think Leon probably age like Keanu Reeves, so he should still look good in 50s and still do John Wick stuff like in Vendetta. Based on the stuff they do most of RE characters are kinda superhuman in one way or another.

I would actually be glad to see some aged characters more often in video games. Fiction in general has an issue with the fact that protagonists are almost always young adults or younger than that. I think that having some older characters to play as will bring some much needed variety to the table. After all, older people can absolutely be badass as well. Look at Askeladd, Uncle Iroh, or pretty much any old person in Fromsoftware games.

I like it when characters age, it adds to the immersion for me. A lot of the OG Mortal Kombat characters got aged up & are still bad ass, plus Johnny Cage became a certified daddy🥰 but in all seriousness, I do think it’s good to show the positives & the negatives of aging in video games. Just because you get older doesn’t mean you’re less capable or stop living, but also with age can come many issues physical or otherwise. People need to see that because it’s a reality we all face.

Honestly, that would be an incredibly emotional moment for Resi fans. Imagine playing a 50 year old Claire Redfield, questioning if she threw her life away because she wanted to or because she really did believe in her brother Chris' dream of fighting what is essentially a losing battle. She is helping Chris and Leon try saving, say, London from a new viral outbreak, only for Leon to get infected and die, and the Redfields lose contact with their team. The growing tension between the two siblings, the fact that they must accept this may very well be their last stand, it all gets too much for Claire and she finally lays it all out on the table for Chris. Leading up to a badass "Last Stand" where Claire and Chris take a bomb into the bad guys' hideout and fight waves and waves of endless bioweaponized mutants. The timer ticks down, with the objective being to survive the hoards just long enough for the bomb to reach where it needs to be and detonate, taking the bad guys out, along with the Redfield siblings. And throughout this whole thing, young Sherry and a new younger character chase the main instigator of this London outbreak, and promise to keep the memories of these beloved, brave heroes alive.

Nah, these characters are icons and represent their respective franchises. In a sense, they’re ageless and will be whatever age the director wants them to be. This is why reboots and remakes are so popular: it prevents the characters from getting too old.

I imagine that us as a community are going to have to accept that our legends are getting old, therefore I believe that we should get new characters in our favorite games but ACTUALLY make them grow as a character with good character development

I'm fine with retiring these characters if that's what Capcom wants to do, but they need to actually finish their stories. Chris and Leon need to have some sort of victory that will allow them to lay down their guns for good. Leon and Ada need to finally tie the knot. Claire needs to "save the world" and maybe have one more parting scene with Chris. And Jill... woo boy, it'd be nice just to know she still exists, holy fuck!

I would love to see a old,gruff Leon teaching the next generation of Stars. A noir style game. With diffrent cases and charachters

I've been thinking about this, how much are they going to squeeze out of the Ethan Winters storyline? He is already in his late 20s early to mid thirties. I want to see more of Sherry, Moira, Jake, and Natalia. So many underdeveloped characters.

It doesn't matter in Solids case he dies after the events of Metal Gear Solid 4. That entry hit me hard, however, I think the Microwave hallway and final fight had a big part in that. I'm not afraid to say I actually cried during that sequence I grew up with this character, and him and Splinter Cell introduced me to the stealth genre.

I actually love Chris' look in RE7 and RE8, I think it shows him aging while also being in really good shape (which is realistic for someone in his position). I don't mind them sort of "wiping clean" the aging impact of the absurd situations/stress he's always under.

Nathan drake has one of the best aging i think, that man went from a cocky teen to a protective dad and it make sense as well. shit brings a tear to me eye...

I think one of the sadder ones is my favourite RE character. Barry Burton was born in 1960, already an older member of STARS at 38 as of the mansion incident; he then appears in Revelations 2 - based in 2011 - at 51. As of 2021, he is 61 years old. Wesker shares this year of birth, also making him 61 should he still be alive - although his virus probably shrugs that off.

Its one of my favorite things about the resident evil franchise. It's got a wide, solid cast of characters that've been aging with the story. The exception of re7 and vendetta, which both decided to make an over 40 year old Chris look 25, for some reason.

I disagree about Leon being portrayed as an alcoholic. They showed him drinking and depressed once. Drinking while unhappy one time doesn’t necessarily make someone an alcoholic.

In the late 90s, there was a survey/comparison between Jill Valentine and Aya Brea of the Parasite Eve game. One of the comparison is that despite Aya being older than Jill by give or take 5 yrs, due to the former's power prevent Aya from Aging beyond 25 yrs old. By the time the 3rd game came out (which ruin for me the PE franchise), Aya was already in her early 40s but still look in her early 20s.

In the original trailer of Resident Evil Japanese version Chris Redfield is shown smoking a cigarette but they changed it for the US version because seeing video game characters smoking a cigarette was a bad thing.

aging can make the series much more fresh, Characters can't stay forever. And If the characters stay the same It could make the series feel repetitive. Which makes it way less fun and people will buy less

One of the reasons why I dont care much for the "new generation" characters in a game sequel, is because theres already a character I care about that started it and holds more history. Aging used properly throws that need away and actually can provide a JOURNEY for a characters history. I rather play Dante from Devil May Cry again in 6 even if hes old. I feel more connected to him that I started with him from when he was a young man, to a middle aged man to an older/old man. People go on and on about a series needing a "fresh" look. Hell theres STILL more story to tell for him regarding Mundus. The fuck does Nero have that warrants Dante being thrown away? Being young? Cool. Don't care. God of War did it too and still kept Kratos as the main protag. Granted we may see his son take his place....sadly...but we see how far Kratos has come mentally and physically.

Surprised that there was no mention of Devil May Cry as a major example: Dante was 19 in 3, his late 20s in 1, mid 30s in 2 and 4 before wrapping up at around 42-43 in DMC5. Also it seems like Nero might be taking over the protag role while Dante's sorting out some long overdue family therapy issues in Hell, so that seems the way they addressed the time passage issue there.

I think it's a good thing. It adds another layer to the narrative, like MGS4. Edit: Also Leon was already a drinker: In the original RE2 he was late for work because he was hungover.

I think Big Boss is a good example of graceful aging in games. He's 28 in MGS3 and 50 in MGSV. You can tell he's older now, but he's still incredibly fit and agile for his age. He is still actively fighting into his 60s when he has his showdown with Solid Snake in MG1/2.

Certain herbs can reverse or prevent aging if one or all of our beloved characters focus on their health there's nothing to worry about. Like Ink Ribbon said "Drink water it makes your skin glow".

Meanwhile,kiryu in yakuza series from 20 yo to 50 yo was never age

all these characters are old but yakuza's protagonist kiryu kazuma is 50 yrs old and he can still put up a helluva fight and hes such a beast he takes punches thrown at him and at no point does he flinch in any way
