When I first started BG3 I didn't like Lae'zel much but decided to use her in my party anyways. After the Gith Creche she became one of my favourite characters, she truly goes through the most change out of any of the characters and has the most interesting story arc. You really get to see her grow and change as the story progresses which is rare in modern games and media. The voice actress also did a brilliant job with her. What an amazing character overall.

​@@cinifiend I agree that there is a lot of depth to her story, but the actual change is quite superficial. She is still a fanatic that would gladly kill you if you stand in front of her (new) goals despite helping her have them. She changes her mind, but doesn't really grow as a character.

I hated her until I played the Creche part of the game... and I was completely devastated for her when the truth hits her. That's just how good the writing is. To completely change my perception towards a character . Well done, Larian Studio, well done!

I think it’s been made clear throughout the entire game that Giths are inherently cruel and strict, it’s even proven further by the egg that you (should not) give to Esther, the newborn literally butchered her entire camp even without any prior knowledge of nor influence from any Giths. They’re just built different, the only exceptions are the Githzerai but that’s because they wholeheartedly rejected Gith and they’re also a subrace of practicing Monk, as in the “-zerai” in their name which roughly translates to “Those who reject Gith” compared to Githyanki which meant “Childrens of Gith” which accepted the violent ways of Gith that freed their race from the Illithid’s rule.

@@SordidusFellatio The Gith child that you give to Esther was raised under a flawed code of good vs evil. Because of the rapid aging and flawed ideals he believed his parents and the society were evil and he was good and that as good he must exterminnate evil. If the egg is given to Lae zel the child grows up normally in a loving household.

@@TheAzet89 She's a 20th level wizard, and a lich. Vlakith doesn't have an official stat-block in 5th edition but she's probably weaker than Vecna (CR 26), closer to Erandis Vol (CR 22). A regular lich from the monster manual is an 18th level wizard and CR 21 as a point of comparison. Any lich is an epic level encounter.

I discovered that early on too playing with my friend, both our characters are Drow and don't take shit from anyone. To the point when someone insults us we likely kill them. So I also tested this vs Vlaakith, who claimed to be a God, not my God. Plus any God directly interfering in mortal affairs like Vlaakith does with a Wish spell is clearly not really a God, yet. I'm not 100% certain but I do believe it is mentioned that Mystra doesn't get involved directly to deal with the main big baddie problem is due to Ao not allowing them to interfere in mortal affairs, so Vlaakith must not be a God I'd imagine or Ao would've denied her too, so... we should be able to kill Vlaakith potentially if the opportunity arises~! :D

I like the wish actually because what you are seeing is not actually Vlakkith but a projection of her. She is speaking to you from a realm incomprehensibly far from this one. To kill from across the Astral Sea into the material with but an incantation without theatrics is pretty baller and definitely demonstrates to the other githyanki in the room that the Lich Queen is never to be trifled with, furthering their fealty and resolve. It's not very often that you get to see your God directly deal out retribution with your own eyes.

If you read the description of the Soldier background it says: "You are trained in battlefield tactics and combat, having served in a militia, mercenary company, or officer corps." It's the militia part that is important. Mercenary companies and officer corps are more military-oriented "proffessions", but militias have a connotation of taking regular citizens and turning them into fighting individuals, kinda like a draft. Historically speaking, and especially since the Enlightenment Era (1750's), militias have been associated with political and/or religious affiliations.

Vlaaktith is the Githyanki Lich queen pretending to be a Goddess, who 'ascends'(murders) followers when they start growing strong enough to potentially resist her.

This is an incredibly esoteric piece of media to consume for someone who hasn't played the game.

@@Bad_Zooka Are you for real? We both know that the second the party saw him as mindflayer nobody would listen to him and would want him dead. How is that remotely worse from for example Astarion that pretends to like you and has sex with you so you protect him, and depending on approval either mocks you that he only used you (low) or confesses the truth on high approval. Or that he hides being a vampire because he feared a stake through his heart? The Emperor was in no position to play the open cards from the start, because he literally is the face of the enemy.

Hshar'lak is Gith for "traitor". It makes total sense for her to say that when she's part of a group that has, in fact, acted very decidedly against her Goddess.

I'd have to agree on this. 1) Convince Gith you don't have it and the quest kind of 'hangs' until you choose a different option 2) Say you want to see inquisitor about a traitor and the Gith 'magically' know you have the item and this ends up the same as 3) Admit you have the item and either had it over or don't 3a) Quest continues 3b) You die There are different ways to a game over but it all seems to only go one way to continue. Maybe I am missing something though.

Much like script extender, you can teleport to any location from the start. Dunno about quest line after that way moving.

If you attempt the "removal" first and remind Lae'zel that the purification process was a lie and almost killed you/her, fight the doctor/etc., she will automatically trust you at this part.

Well at this point the game youre unlikely to even be lvl 12 and vlakkith as a lich is likely 20+. She doesnt need to fight us she just uses a Wish spell to kill us that is as instant as it gets.

When you find out the 'guardian' true form, again there is only one 'continue' route. You CAN'T ally with the Gith, your only choice is to fight the Gith or everything. If you follow that through you just get a game over.

But she has zero reasons to keep us alive, a lot of reasons to want us dead, no need of us as allies AND no way of keeping us from transforming into mindflayers Additionally the game would then completely lack the depth and moral ambiguity you're presented with in the Emperor, require a complete rewrite of the Orpheus aspect and Lae'zels character growth and make the game way longer with a more convoluted story, as we would have to get deeper into Gith culture and would need some reason for her to continue to talk to us to get a similar manipulation/expose relationship going with her as we have with our guardian. Additionally to it not making any sense that she would want to help us or Baldur's Gate, any PC that's not a Gith wouldn't have any reason to believe she would either, requiring another rewrite. As would the Shadowheart/Lae'zel conflict. And the final decision in the Astral Plane, as it would then be centered on the Githyanki and their future. As we would still need to discover what she actually gets up to, this would still make her the obvious 'evil choice', which means 'good' characters would have a real problem/no options...Which includes our companions, who go with their guardians for largely the same reasons as the PC initially does, but have no reason to go with Vlaakith tl;dr i believe Vlaakith as an ally would require a rewrite of most of the game, if we want a coherent story Just enjoy Critical Role for what it is and accept that this game isn't a copy paste even with Matt Mercer in it ;)

It's either this type of situation exists in the game or the game comes out in 12+ years to account for yet more choices that will still lead to this type of situation, if it comes out at all. The reality of production and development puts a hard limit on how much freedom they can give you and they give you *a lot* in this game already.

then become your own game designer and program in the 100 different ways the story could go depending on your choices. Either that or play some real DnD. this game is waaaay better than most rpgs that give you one linear path and thats it.
