I'm surprised about how poor was the security of this airport. You can just leave your stuff, run around with no shoes on, barge to any doors until you can reach the runway and still no one is there to stop you.

@@djharml3ss but were you expecting security to be everywhere at every single moment? Were you expecting them to leap out from around the door immediately? I understand that this was shocking, but sometimes things like this happen. I work at an airport, and not in security. I have seen things that are just crazy. I saw a gentleman just run down the jet bridge, take off all his clothes, jump down onto the ramp, and run to another concourse. Things just happen, and to blame a group when you don't know the full situation is unfair. And remember that when you watch videos, especially on television, the majority of them are highly edited because they have time restraints.

I used to work at PHX unfortunately the emergency exits typically take you out to the tarmac and are regular push bar emergency exits. There is a loud audible noise, flashing light and sensors that alert operations that door x in location x is opened and the airport police are sent to investigate. I’m pretty sure that cleaning guy was fired for not reporting this. Unfortunately airports are such a large area that it’s important for all employees to report suspicious activities and this is a result of employees not notifying airport operations to alert airport police. Sadly many employees don’t have the awareness of things that are going on while they are working or just don’t care and figure someone else will deal with it just like when there’s a accident on the street or a crime in progress people assume someone else called 911 I can’t be bothered with this.

Would your parents let you run about like that? Will you let your kids run about like that? It's like instead of blaming the alcoholic who gets drunk and becomes violent and kill his wife, blame the bar. In Asia, the bar is not responsible. For everyone wondering and assuming he is a crazy person, you need to watch the story of this man. Someone did a whole video about him. He struggled with severe bipolar and recently, at the time of this, he lost his dog, who was his support animal, and now he was losing his grandfather. He was held up at the airport even though he arrived early, and as a result, he missed his flight. He began going through a bipolar episode. He was trying to get on the plane to see his dying grandfather. That is why he was running around. He needed to see his grandfather, and he thought that the plane that was now leaving was his only shot of seeing him before he passed. Please research before assuming this man is just crazy person. He tried so hard to control his bipolar disorder. He was on a good track until he lost his best friend, and he later got news that he was going to lose another family member. Hopefully, Kyler is now reunited with his dog Quicksilver and at peace. He was posting on social media his battles of bipolar disorder and how much he loved his dog. This man was just not taken seriously at a time when he needed help the most. I cried when I heard his story. His story that no one bothers to look for. They just watch this and think this is who he is. And as someone who struggles with multiple mental illnesses, it hits hard and close.

I think the guy chose deliberately empty areas of the airport, gates don't have staff 24/7, once airplanes leave they are left with no one around. When he got to the ramp it was late in the evening that's why the footage is from night cameras. There are open doors in most airports, it's just that no that many people try to go through them.

I have empathy and compassion for him as he has struggled with mental illness for over ten years. His family has struggled as well. I was merely responding to the incredibly unkind, ignorant, cold, disgusting, comments of others. I was so saddened by a lot of the comments and how cruel and unthoughtful they were- not to mention how selfish and self focused people can be. Completely mind blowing that people think this way, feel this way, and that they have the audacity to share it publicly. But MY posts were taken down? REALLY? For everyone out there that’s going to continue to go with the narrative of worry about yourself … this is a perfect example of why we have to worry about other people. There were so many opportunities for someone to stopped and help him. How about when he started taking off his shoes and trying to break in every door and window that he possibly could. How about when he left his belongings how about when he was crying loudly somebody should’ve called for some type of help and the fact he can wander around the airport the way he did makes me really question the security of that airport.

The rule is that the door to the walkway closes 10 minutes before departure. The gate agents will call out a passengers name on the intercom if doors are about to close. My question is, he obviously got to the airport late - why didn't the check in agent tell him that he wasn't going to make his flight, not check him in, and tell him how to book a later flight? I have seen agents do this with late arriving people. They don't check them in, they have them go to a different counter to re-book. Also where was security staff - even in the off hours, should be security on hand. They could call over a TSA person to pitch in. Security should have apprehended him, even if he ended up being arrested, he would have been alive to find another way to visit his sick grandfather. Tragic and preventable.

This is a failure in all security systems. No one viewing cameras or anyone missed his erratic behaviors to see something going wrong. So when people are going through is this stage and the worst is when people are staring and looking at you makes more unbearable follow by lightning in the room movement of people trying to find a spot but that feeling is still there heart is pumping think about that feeling like in the movie "Carrie" where she gets on stage and gets drenched and thinks everyone is laughing at you, "there all going to laugh at you" that's in my mind when people just stare and looks thats how he might have felt ran found a dark place less movement no lights and relaxed to where he didn't realized what he climbed into. So next time rather than stare or look, offer to approach and calmly comfort the person and say it's no problem....this is mental health and why it's difficult for people to say it because all humans look and stare like your crazy, he's on drug and that bothers me alot....that's a feeling I cannot and trying to control but it's been hard and no I am not on medication cause they can be worse

This is nothing new . It happens all day everyday at airports . People are late and try to open the door to the jet way because they see the aircraft is still sitting there . They bang on the windows waving their hands , etc . When I used to work at the airport, we used a number code to open doors. Now you swipe your badge to open doors . Your badge does not open all doors . It depends on what your job is as to what doors your badge opens . Many people have gone through the doors you just push to open to get to the tarmat, but trust me they never get on the plane . SMH

Perhaps TSA should quit with the intrusive security theater that provides no increase in safety, yet inconveniences every single traveler. Furthermore, the discretionary authority these inexperienced officers have over the public quickly goes to their heads, leading to victimization of those with mental health issues, due to apparent "non-compliance" or "suspicious" behavior. The actions of everyone who made contact with this person should be thoroughly scrutinized and criminal penalties introduced for even the slightest abuse of official power.
