Liv Spencer but he never specifically says that he wishes to bring the dead to life. I can only remember one line stating that farther down the line once he had completed his creation he might find a way to restore life as he had created it. And even then he relented to say that he would have to restore animation soon thereafter, before decomposition. So I would suffice it to say that his mothers life wasn't a concern of his efforts, rather it was but one of the pushes that led him to his creation.

That scene in the book is truly heartbreaking where after a normal conversation with the old blind man, he hears the family returning and starts panicking, then desperately and tearfully begs the old blind man to not fear or reject him. It showed how the creature just wanted to be loved and accepted by the family he's been listening to for over a year.

I don’t think what’s his name, Walton in thr boat at the end loathes him . He actually reported it in his letter of his encounter
@sophiakiedrowski587
@sophiakiedrowski587 3 жыл бұрын
Here are some fixed mistakes and more accurate details featured in the novel that were not on this video: -Walton writes a series of letters to his sister back home describing his journey and is the main chief narrator of the novel -Victor Frankenstein’s mother dies from scarlet fever, and she is the one who requests Victor and Elizabeth to be married -Victor finds out about his brother’s murder after his recovery, but he doesn’t find out until Justine’s false accusation until he gets home. It is also unclear if he actually witnessed her execution but was just driven by guilt from it -During the Monster’s time at the De Lacey’s cottage, he sees his own reflection in a pond and is horrified by his own ugly appearance -The Monster actually saved a young girl from drowning, not a woman, which resulted in him getting shot -Victor actually goes to England to require more research for building a female monster and his friend Henry Clerval goes with him for his safety -While Victor languishes after discovering Clerval was killed, his father comes to his rescue and goes home with him after being acquitted -Victor actually had one brother who was the sole survivor, but since he is mostly a pointless character, Victor just straight up abandoning him to pursue his creation; which explains why he wasn’t mentioned here -Right before he dies, Victor makes Walton promise to destroy the monster for him after his death, while Walton’s crew demanded him to leave the Arctic once the ice clears up -The book ends with Walton witnessing the Monster leave the ship and travel up northernmost until he disappears in the mist to die alone

I read the book and I blame Victor for all this. The monster wouldnt be bad if he took care of him in the first place. I remember I felt so sorry for the monster when I read his story and that part when he gets shot when he did a good deed by saving the drowning girl... When he got rejected and feared by the DeLaceys even after the good things he did for them such as gathering wood for them (anonymous, but still). I hated it when Victor rejected and hated the monster, he was the "father"! He was the one who made him ugly, so why take it out on the monster? As for the monster...His actions were certainly horrible, but why be nice when the world has been cruel towards him?
@madworldfan123
@madworldfan123 9 жыл бұрын
Good point. But while the world can influence a person, his actions were all his own. He could've easily tried to find Victor first rather than kill his family members. I've read the book and he also is a creature capable of speech and rationalization. I also believe he shouldn't have waited so long to confront the DeLaceys a second time, because as the book said he was too hasty in his approach. He could've easily persuaded the DeLaceys to adopt him just as easy as he persuaded Frankenstein to make him a mate.

The creature didn't really kill William out of revenge, or at least it is unclear. He says that he grabbed William by the throat to silence him, and implies that the monster didn't realized his own strength. Ernest as a character goes unmentioned entirely, and the letters to Margaret Saville are disregarded as well. This is an okay general summary, but lacks a lot that should have been mentioned or clarified.

A good, succinct summary. I think there's an error, though. According to the video, there's a time discrepancy regarding when William dies, between Victor's story and the creature's (5:29). However, in the book, Victor says that William died NOT the spring after he made the creature, but the following spring, roughly 18 months after he made the creature (end Chapter 6, beginning Chapter 7). Their stories do line up.

Janet Altamirano There were at least two versions written by Shelley, one in 1818 and one in 1831 (one major difference is that Elizabeth isn't a cousin in the 1831 version, but adopted from a peasant family). One version has three volumes, the other just has chapters, not separated into parts. But even with much older books where different printings feature the same text, formatting might differ slightly depending on the publisher. It would be more accurate to go by word count.

Loved this book. It's about morality and choice; and how, since man can choose to be evil or good, we are essentially neither. Meaning, when someone says people are essentially good, because we can choose to be evil, then what they say is wrong, and no morality is essential to us, that is, not within our essences.

Inconsistencies in the story? More like inconsistencies in this summary. The creature saw William at first and wanted to have him understand him because he thought that people of such young age couldn't hold prejudice like the other humans he encountered. It was when William said my father Frankenstein will kill you after being frightened that the creature strangled the little boy. Background information is ignored as well as Ernest's presence in the novel. Other small things like this are amiss in this summary and also, the stories match. Seriously, read the book.

Y’all who didn’t read this book for your assignment, you should read it some time. There are some great lines delivered by the monster, and some insights that aren’t covered in summaries. That and it’s a cool book and takes like, a week, tops, to read

One of the saddest book I've read. Really heartbreaking. I feel more sorry for the being, and not Victor. I imagine what could he become if Victor didn't abandon him. He only longs for someone to accept and loved him.

Anyone who has to do an essay etc, what you do is watch minute book report’s 2 minute video on Frankenstein. Then watch this video twice. 0:00 Then watch the minute book report video 5 times without break, then you have whatever you needed to know in your memory but only have to use 20 mins of your time. This worked for me. You’re welcome

I never thought of the creature as evil. He wasn't given any of the fruits of his labors and instead was beaten time and time again. He came to terms with his wicked deeds and acknowledged them as such. Once Frankenstein had dashed his hope and vengeance was sworn though, he couldn't return to his old countenance. He had given himself an ambition and binding a resolve to that ambition pushed him onward. He fell down a pit of despair of which he couldn't escape and sought only to dwell on the emotions which he so ardently needed to distract him from his grief and "wretchedness" At least this are my two cents.

I don't know if anyone's commented this yet, but there is no difference in time between the creature's story and Victor's. Victor stays in Ingolstadt for another year with Henry Clerval after his recovery. They were studying the Oriental languages together, if you recall. The narration passes very briefly over this time, so the creator of this video may well have overlooked it, but you'll find its existence in the fifth paragraph from the end of Chapter 6. Good luck to everyone studying this book for a school assignment! :)

Somthing doesn't add up in the original story victor frankenstein had two younger younger brothers William and Ernest while in this story only William is mentioned of course we know what happened to him but Ernest fate is unknown its possible he was sent and taken away where the monster wouldn't kill him and he was the last surviving member of the Frankenstein family

Victor still has his brother Ernest, and there's also an inconsistency with the De Laceys; Felix fell in love with Safie and the Turk promised Felix that Safie would marry him. But the Turk went back on his promise since he didn't want his daughter to marry a Christian. These points aren't critical to the story, but it may help someone who's here for an essay or report. Other than that, you managed to hit a lot of the critical points. Great job! 7:43 He never said he was going to set himself on fire, just that he was going to go end his life because he didn't want to feel pain and anguish anymore.

I see Frankenstein's monster as a child here. He barely learned good and evil and is still grappling with the concepts of right and wrong while being shunned by everyone. But I also think he had an emotional journey growing up basically, realizing what he did was purely evil and says he'll destroy himself sparing someone else the misery of finding out about him.
