As someone that's been doing gaming content for 12 years, one thing that wasn't mentioned was Personality. Doesn't matter what strategy you pick, if you have a personality that doesn't keep people coming back, you won't grow very quickly.

I think everyone needs to understand how important it is to upload, not like a madman, but to upload videos. Not only does it give your channel content for your potential audience to watch, but it also helps you learn. KZfaq/content creation is a process, trust the process and you will be successful.

I miss the time back when it was easy to start a gaming channel

Yeah I just started as a gaming channel and this video has helped me realize a couple things. Right now I was feeling really discouraged because my videos are actually garbage and not what I want them to be. Then I see all the other KZfaqrs be successful and make GOOD content. Even after this I told myself that they have also been doing this a lot longer than I have. I may not have the best equipment or any knowledge on editing, scriptwriting, etc. I told myself I will get better, and I'll eventually get the equipment I need to make the content I want to make. I just had to come to terms that it will take time. I just need become better and constantly strive for improvement!

Whoever is reading DONT give up on your channel. Think about all the hard work that you have already put in. Every youtuber was once in your spot they just kept going. Stay consistent and you will reach your goals. consistent uploads and improvement and some determination is all you need!

I love these kind of videos because its definitely a confidence boost for people who wanna start but a lot of these video forget at least 1 key thing (at least in my opinion), when doing a gaming KZfaq channel or just a KZfaq channel in general is that you should just have fun with it. don't get me wrong all these tips are great for understanding what can help with a channel but I feel that starting a KZfaq channel shouldn't be this complex to get started, if your having fun playing games and editing them for KZfaq then continue to do that and try and improve on yourself with editing each video, name a video what you wanna name it don't stress about key words or trying your absolute hardest to push out video every day or 2 because all these other channels are doing it, you should just have fun and enjoy the content you make because as you upload content and improve on your abililty to edit and talk in video's you'll also wanna improve in other areas of your channel which is where you'd wanna start looking at tips to help grow your channel and look into the specifics of what can help your channel grow when you've became a lot more comfortable uploading, editing, talking, etc. and wanna really take KZfaq seriously. Great video by the way :)

My best friend started a channel about a month ago and its an extremely niche gaming channel. It's on a private server to an old game, and he's also just talking in depth on one specific build in the private server. so EXTREMELY niched down, but his first video did 2.8k views and every video after that has done 1k+ views! He's 7 videos in and 14k views, which I feel is doing pretty good! Up 190 subs in 1 month!! IT IS POSSIBLE!!

thank you, its nice to here everything I've been doing lately is the correct way to do things. ive went from just hitting record and edit later to actually directing myself a little and planning out each and every type of video. i usually tend to be a more adult humor gaming channel but ive learned to give my self a line not to cross for certain types of videos like tutorials then kinda go all out on the more series based and multiplayer stuff. i stick within my sub niche which are two games that are extremely similar because its the games my community play. if see they are playing a new game on discord I ask about it and sometimes I do poles on which new games they would like to see. the lets play concept is definitely dead, unless you have a special theme to it or twist. also I don't like to bombard my community with a lot of shorts and community posts. i find them mostly annoying myself when I'm going through the recent videos I'm subscribed to I've actually unsubscribed from people because of the spam of notifications and filling up my new videos feed. ive asked others in my community for their thoughts on it and they agree. a short here and there and post or poll once a week is fine but blowing up the subscription feed is annoying and gets old fast. when it comes to making and scheduling content I think about how I consume it. i don't really like to see 2 or more videos from the same person a day because I have a limited view time and don't like to choose. its better when they only put out videos 4 or 5 days a week so I can keep up with them equally. so I try for 3 to 5 videos a week. when I have time or I remember a funny part of a video ill make a short and upload it at random. and do posts on updates to the channel and when ill be doing streams and post some polls. but what you said about making games for your audience and not so much just any new game is spot on. if you go out of your game niche it just confuses the algorithm and your viewers. thank yall for these videos they really help. I'm definitely gonna work on the content ecosystem with a more set schedule and more posts. also the thing with making videos for all people who play that game really stuck out to me because I started that strategy recently and It really helps. i do tutorials to get new viewers and series based stuff along with multiplayer to keep them. and my more series based stuff has started to actually get me more viewers as a side effect.

The content ecosystem is a really good strategy because a few years ago, the long-forn videos were KZfaq, shorts were TikTok, live streams were Twitch and the community tab were Twitter and/or Instagram, and it's really good to have all that in one place.

Thanks for all the tips you have shared over the years. Your tips and information made my channel grow a lot even though my channel never got "big". I had very small niche but I still found my small but very loyal audience since no one really had the type of videos I was making. I have always kept making KZfaq videos as a nice hobby but now since I have other plans for my life I decided to quit it. As I get older I can always go back and check the videos I have done and how much positivity it gave to me and my audience.

Started my gaming channel back in July and I got monetized today and have 2300 subs. There's definitely still space to start a gaming channel. 🥰 I only play one game and generally target towards a specific segment of the audience for that game. (Mostly intermediate advanced modded players) Being as specialized as possible has helped me grow well and I've started to branch out a bit to the broader player base (beginners and unmodded players) too and it's doing well. I definitely had some HUGE success being the first person to cover a brand new dlc that was coming and being the ONLY person to cover a mod that was super popular. All of these tips absolutely work.

This video helped a lot! If I start a channel i wanted it to be a Minecraft gaming channel, specifically based around PvP. Recently I've been racking my brain to figure out, "what hasn't been done before in Crystal PvP?" That's when i watched this video, which explained that you can do something that someone else has done before; you just have to do it better. Thank you guys so much for the input! :DDD

I definitely am looking forward to growing my channel to push success and hopefully start businesses as I currently work as a manager for a fast food restaurant. My dream is cinematography and KZfaq is the start to this. Not to mention hopefully one day being able to buy my parents a home and support them as they did for me when I grew up. Whether you're doing something cool, something soothing, something epic, even something simple as heck, gaming content is hard to make, especially with the rise of several games, mobile and PC and controller alike. Yet they still have the same technique, find where there is no path, and leave a trail for others to follow. (Random quote from the internet I picked up)

I've had a few gaming channels that are under 40 subs come to me wanting to know how to grow. I look at what theyve made and see that they are all over the place with their content. I tell them to focus on one niche for a while to grow. Half of these people don't like to stay to one niche for a while.

Good vid. Thanks for sharing the tips. I personally don't agree about let's plays having come to an end, and not really even sure about focusing on one game only. It think it all really depends. I suppose your larger points still make sense since if you were to have any success with variety and let's plays you'd still need to be a good storyteller, especially when it comes to editing the videos, and would need to be able to bring something unique to the table. I'm just saying it can be something else than the current trending things too, and it can also largely depend on personality and how entertaining or insightful the person is. Furthermore, I'd actually argue there is a counter wave starting where content that is less in your face, less edited, and more relaxed is actually making a comeback. People seem tired of the constant bombardment to their senses and are looking for more chill content as well. Perhaps I'm wrong, and regardless I reckon it's easier to grow if you try and hit the trends, but I'm just saying there is still demand for other things too.

Even though I started over a year ago, I definitely need to try dedicate more time to my channel, so it's basically like a restart so this is really helpful!

I started a KZfaq hiatus a few months ago because I had life things that meant I couldn't make videos for a while, but I also realised that trying to make variety content when just starting out just doesn't work, so over this whole break I've been trying to figure out what sort of content to focus on. I was sure I didn't want to do gaming because it's such a saturated market, but right when I was starting to want to make videos again, this video came along. I'm now considering gaming again. It's what I've always wanted to do, the only reason I ruled it out is because I thought it was impossible to stand out among the hundreds of thousands of gaming channels. But if it's still a viable way to start out (I'm basically soft rebooting my channel after all), then I'm putting gaming back on the table. Thank you for setting me on the beth past to success XD

Wow!! that was close to the best video (if not the best) that I have watched on this subject, many thanks. I'm guilty of the lack of focus issue as I started as a study project to learn all I could for my son's benefit but I've become a little addicted to it myself now, so I have used multiple games most of which I do enjoy playing but I have been trying to gain more focus after "testing the waters".

This is what I have been trying to do. I am not doing the one game strategy but the one audience. I play FREE steam games, good or crappy. Gives me lots of experience in editing too. Some games may take me 35 minutes to do everything or all I can and I edit it down to a minute or never even publish it if it sucks. Maybe takes me all day for 9 minutes of good funny content but it is all practice and every game anyone else can download and play too if they want as they are free and usually smaller games.

First time I hear Dan say focus on 1 type of audience rather then focus on 1 game only. That is EXACTLY what I am doing by going for the survival games audience trying to deliver news, tips and other content for that niche. Despite some games’ tips bringing in more audience then others this approach seems to be working as opposed to general variety lets play that is my main channel (Grunfworks). So I guess what I am trying to say here Dan, I hear you, and as far as I am concerned, you are spot on with this one.

Niche down, Have intentions with each video, and prioritize getting better at editing and understand what the community wants and critically watch those who are making it work. Great thumbnails, great content then put yourself in front of the algorithm. If you're genuine and trying, people will notice.

I started a gaming channel in November and as of today this channel has literally 13K views with 45 videos and only 145 subscribers. Within my niche/game, there are tons of people who are commonly searching for the best weapon or best build. Since the most popular KZfaq channels don't really focus on that topic, I took advantage of that knowledge and idea I have and made it valuable to those who want to know which weapons are good or what build to have. I also do livestreams of the actual story of the game and those rack in subscribers/views since there are tons of new players coming to the game and need assistance of playing through that whole game. So far I been super passionate about this channel and what I have been doing lately. It's real fun and analyzing the analytics help me to learn what to improve on in the next video and what my audience enjoys watching more.

Thank you for this video, I recently moved specifically to just KZfaq over Twitch and I've been trying to find my Rhythm and not knowing if I should focus on just Full form vids, Shorts or Live. But hearing that it's better to do a combination of all three and really gave me some new ideas for future videos as well.

This is a really good video. I’ve been struggling with the fact that I’ve seen huge growth from shorts that isn’t translating to long form views. I have nearly 2k subs but only 200 of the 4,000 watch hours towards monetisation. Time to re-focus my content in 2023 and start grinding for that 4k watch hours! We got this, gamers 😎

Tbh its interesting points for every channel. Story telling is by far the secret to good channels and videos. It's the basic of any entertainment. Books, films, conversations and theatre. It's all about the story.

I think I’m doing pretty well with my editing and thumbnails for a complete noobie who just started a gaming channel.. that’s mainly cause I’ve been watching KZfaq since it came out.. and I’ve learned and gained so much knowledge of this platform even for a viewer which helps a lot, but still.. it is not easy.. and there is so much from for improvement, I’m learning as I go here.. I feel like If I make every single video.. the best video ever ! There’s no way I can fail, I can feel my gut my instincts that my channel can work and be successful.. I just gotta put in the time and effort, 5-6 hours editing a video only for 50 views is rough man .. but I hope one day .. there’s gonna be that one video .. that one game that’s gonna pop off my channel.. almost happens to every let’s player… I wonder what my game is..

My goals are to see more organic growth on my gaming channel. I started using Google Ads a while ago then stopped and saw almost zero traction. Using Google Ads again and getting views and subs (slowly) but retention and engagement remain very low. Going to be following more vidIQ advice this year and hopefully I can get more of an audience this year without having to pay Google for it. Thanks for all the help you give content creators!

Thanks for the advice! I've started taking my youtube channel very seriously this year and its going well with The Witcher content but adding another game has been quiet. I think I need to try out some live streams as well.

my biggest worry is the new changed to the guidelines... im far from getting in the YPP but im thinking about the future of my channel, and i don't want to restrict myself if i want to throw an F bomb once in a while, or play a more violent videogame... the new changes suck and it really kills my motivation.

Thanks for the video. I just had major back surgery and have been putting off creating a new KZfaq channel for some time. Now that I cannot walk, and won't be able to for months, I am going for it. I had a lot of cover songs recorded on another channel, as well as a bunch of captured games, disc golf tutorials, disc reviews, etc. I lost all of them, somehow. Now, I am starting over and I wanted to put these same things on one channel but under playlists. I would rather start with uploading a bunch of them, say 20, to get started. I've got two gaming videos uploaded to my channel right now and I've shared them and I've had a few views, but I really don't know how to get an audience.

I’ve been doing gaming-related content for around 5 years and experimented with a niche related to games (their soundtracks) and found that this is wildly popular and can be continually improved on. My viewership has skyrocketed in the last two months and now I’m ready to try new ideas too, on top of building on my old ones!

I've bounced around so much this year playing games...I'm still torn on what I want to do because I like many things from Dead by Daylight to Retro wonders (I know I'm weird). But going forward for 2023 my goal niche is going to be Legend of Zelda games. I've always loved these games and with tears of the kingdom coming out in May of this year starting with Breath of the Wild now gives me a great opportunity to hone in on my planning of content skills and see what areas can I still bring value to the table.

I usually have an outline for my videos, but since I play an unpredictable game(The Sims 4)I edit my plan as I go along. Like example I want my sims to go to the park in this video, but they accidentally start a fire. I also have a repeating problem where I keep repeating word I have previously said.

I have a gaming channel and I've just hit 3K Subs! It's definitely a competitive market regardless of what games you focus on but it's worth it!

My goal for a (Mostly) Gaming channel is honestly to just do it for a living. It isn't about being rich or getting famous (Those are just perks), even if I can just make it to live comfortably and be out of debt, that's honestly just the baseline for what I want. I HATE working for companies, and I'd like to just have my own schedule and be my own boss. I've been taking my KZfaq channel seriously for just over 2 years now, its been a slow-ish pace, but I like where things are going! The little community I've got going on is great and the friends I've made along the way are super awesome! Good video as always, by the way. "No matter WHAT kind of channel you have on KZfaq. I personally found that how to videos are my best videos. I posted my main one about 5 months ago, and it didn’t pick up steam until around 3 ago. Now, it gets around 150-200 views a day and it comes up 2nd when you search up how to get the item. My other 2 have 800 and 400 views as of now. Also another random observation is that once I started posting shorts my other older videos began getting significantly more views than before. This month alone I’ve increased my views 500 percent by doing this.
