I can identify with him; I visited Istanbul in 1982 and it just clicked. I stayed only 2 weeks but people were so lovely, generous and welcoming, and it was hard to hold back my tears when I left. I knew that some day I’d live there. But I really want to visit Vietnam too, and am working on learning Tiếng Việt! Luckily I live in a neighborhood with lots of Vietnamese folks; even getting my hair cut turns into a language lesson. :-)

Agreed on the positive sentiment about Dean Russo. At the risk of sounding condescending, I wish more Americans are like Dean (I'm an American by the way and have been in the States since '75, but I did spend 10 years living and working in VN). And when I say I wish more Americans are like Dean, I don't mean that to make us or other countries feel flattered, I mean that so that fellow Americans can get along with themselves in their own country. I wish Dean continuing to have positive experience with Vietnamese when he visits as he deserves the best VN has to offer. Lastly, to echo what another viewer had commented below, the bit about that doggone missing floss is so spot on I kept chuckling because I see myself doing that ... great stuff Kyle. Some time I wonder whether your mom actually see the great artistic and heartfelt work that you provide to us because it would a long way towards her acceptance of your chosen life. Please excuse me if that last bit was too personal but I just want to let you know the wonderful work that you do, and the secret desire of many young Viet Kieu out there.

The Vietnamese people are more genuine, more sincere in their own way, as compared to other Asians. It is sometimes not easy being there, but I agree with Dean. There are not many countries I have that feeling to be home. So Vietnam must be doing something right.

I've been to VN 3 times over the last 4 years. I just recently got back from VN in May of this year and I felt that Da Nang was home for me. I would seriously see myself living in Da Nang and have business there. Probably the best place I have been to so far.

Listen folk, this is from a man who has been in 20 some places "..there is no other people in the world that are like Vietnamese people. You have your bad people, you have your good people. But the good people, and the normal-regular-every-day people are frigging wonderful. And I mean they are wonderful people..."

That is interesting, many foreigners say they fell in love with Vietnam at first sight. Like Anthony Bordain. I wonder what it is exactly about Vietnam that just captivate people.

Simply Nora a lot of things. I went back their for the first time in 19 years. I was last there when I was 3. There are many elements. But yes food is one! And cost of Living if you're coming from America or something it's not as expensive. Considered cheap to an extent. You get different kinds of foods and variety and also nightlife. And the scenery. You have to visit. Go to Da nang. Is more modernized
@anonanon9880
@anonanon9880 6 жыл бұрын
I don't think it is as simple as that, many countries have cheap food, scenery, and nightlife but they don't compare to Vietnam. I think it's the vibe/atmosphere, can be hard to explain.

It's because vietnamese put white people on the pedestal. Not just any white people, but white people from rich countries like USA, canada, france, etc. If you are white and from poor eastern european countries, they would care less. This is why you hardly see a vietnamese girl marry to a white guy from Ukraine or Bulgaria. Because vietnam is such a poor country, they want to escape poverty. The easiest and quickest way to do it is by marrying a rich white guy. This is why white people in general love vietnam. They get treated like royalty. They don't get that same treatment when they go to Japan, Korea, or Hongkong. And also vietnam is cheap. You can have a full course meal for under $10 and they even throw in a beer and a wet towel for free. Try a full couse meal in japan, most american tourists can't even afford it.
