Great info Daniel. I've been using my Canon EOS R for about 4 months now and not taking advantage of the Histogram. But I've just added this to my display and we're good to go. Thanks!

Great to hear! Having everything in the view finder is one of the best parts of the R.

I have a well lit room but my camera doesn't pick up the light,it looks super dark through my camera,I have to up my iso or drop my ss or adjust aperture, why and how can I fix it ?
@DanielWhiteWithCanon
@DanielWhiteWithCanon 2 жыл бұрын
Add more light or bump up the ISO. The camera does well up to 3200 iso if there is some light on the subject. Lower aperture is good as well.

Daniel I found this video super helpful , however I couldn't recreate some of the same options with in the view finder as you, for example when I was trying to move the focus area using the Focus button and turning the top wheel, it would only changed my shutter speed, I appear to the the focus button assigned to "focus guide" on and off, can you recommend how I change this? I generally shoot in full Manual mode normally use the viewfinder unless on a tripod, being able to move the focus area sounds so useful. Thanks in advance Alex

The button has been switched. you have to remap the button to its original purpose'

I have a well-lit room, but my camera doesn't pick up the light, it looks super dark through my camera (view finder), I have to up my iso or drop my ss or adjust aperture, why and how can I fix it? if I change my ISO, it also changes my camera setting and that causes my photos to be over exposed. I never had this issue using a camera before I only want to see clearly through viewfinder.

6:10 On the RP you can use hold the focus button and then move the wheel on the back to move the focus point up and down. I am guessing the R works that same way.

But maybe more ergo would be to use the touch and drag feature when using the EVF. I don't use that anymore because I disabled the auto EVF to rear screen sensor.
@DanielWhiteWithCanon

I personally recommend using the focus button as a toggle for ISO so it isn't available for other functions. But good to know!
@ritrattoaziendale

Exactly; the top dial is the one that moves the AF point up and down, while the front dial moves left and right as shown in the video. I personally use the 4 way controller to move AF point on my R, while on my R6 there's the joystick which is the best solution overall.

Exposure simulation helped the most but it doesnt seem to give me a real representation with apature. What I see in my evf isn't the same image when it comes to apature settings. Is there a way to change this?
@DanielWhiteWithCanon
@DanielWhiteWithCanon 4 жыл бұрын
I am not sure if there is a way to change that. Are you often shooting at different apparatuses? Adjusting the brightness of the EVF might also help.
@derekclarkstudio

@@DanielWhiteWithCanon I looked into it a little more and found out that I needed to program a button to "DOF preview". The eos r keeps apature at its widest until the shutter is released, this way the AF has as much light as possible to work with. Now that I customized that button, my problem is solved.

Question. I noticed the viewfinder nor my camera a little jittery when panning. Do you know how to make it looking smoother ? Like the refresh rate or something?
@DanielWhiteWithCanon
@DanielWhiteWithCanon 4 жыл бұрын
Is this jittery look in your footage as well. There is a setting that allows you to save power by lowering the refresh rate of the view finder this might be part of your problem It is inview finder settings. The camera only has a refresh rate of max 60 frames a second so that can look very jittery for fast moving objects but there is no option to increase this and make it feel smoother.
@davidcooper5790
@davidcooper5790 4 жыл бұрын
Yup me too, makes it really tricky to shoot moving objects (my business is young children portraiture and they move all over the place). The VF seems to stall/lock about half a second after the shot and you lose track of your live subject. The only workaround I've found is to touch the shutter button quickly after a shot which seems to keep the view 'live'. Really annoying compared to optical vf which is always live but will have to live with it until a firmware update or something. Very surprised this isn't all over the forums, it must be maddening trying to shoot single shot sports photos.

What if you don't want the histogram to show up in your viewfinder at all? I've turned off ALL the options and the histogram still appears in the eye view (not on the LCD). What am I doing wrong?
@DanielWhiteWithCanon
@DanielWhiteWithCanon 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Debbie there are two different “menus” one for the VF and one for the back screen. Use the VF and press info info info and it should go away.
@debbiekarnes22
@debbiekarnes22 3 жыл бұрын
@@DanielWhiteWithCanon Well, that didn't work either. When I held it up to my eye while pressing info, I got the 'level', but the histogram was still up in the corner. It did not go away. It wasn't there earlier today, but it is now. Not sure what I changed, but that histogram is not going away.

For the back screen? Not sure I understand but an easy way is to simply turn the camera face in. There is also an option in the wrentch menue to turn of the back screen and only use the viewfinder.
