I get my aide cloth at the resale shops. People are always donating their cross stitch kits that they never even work on, so for about a $1 you get a good assortment of thread and aide cloth.

Hi Gayle I still scrapbook but I call it my social history books. I did a scrapbook for each of my sons when they left home. I started because I had 4 generations of photos of family right back to the time they emigrated from England to Australia and wanted some interesting and secure way to keep them and at the same time tell their story. I still scrapbook as we usually live in a caravan and travel around Australia and I also write travel articles and find the scrapbook albums are reminders of not only the places we visit but the feel of an area which helps people decide they want to visit there. At the moment I’m finishing my sons Antarctic expedition album, it’s only nine months since he returned 😆. I do visit a group, CTMH, and we do a set piece but our instructor encourages us to personalise and after the class’ we just do as we please with whatever we please. It makes for learning new techniques but also having fun together. Junk journaling is my passion but until I sell some things I’ll have to slow down, there’s still no interstate travel and no markets etc so my stock has grown enormously and threatens to take over. I’ll be so glad when we’re back to normal, they say it’ll be a ‘new’ normal, whatever that means. Thanks for your company and creativity, I enjoy spending time with you. Stay safe 💕💕💕

My mom was a quilter and I have one started myself. I have trouble threading my needle too! Needle threader are wonderful things! I love scrapbooking but do not care for the Creative Memories style. I'm more of a free style scrapper. But my most recent love is junk journal making! Love the "slow stitching" that is a new term for me I like the definition of embroidery without a pattern!! Thanks for sharing ♥️ e

I completely agree Gayle about scrapbooking. I did enjoy it for a time but the precise nature of it made me loose interest. Then I started making calenders for my mother in law incorporating photos of my kids but in a less precise manner. That led to an altered book and finally junk journals. So fun!! Hugs. Amy💕😺

If you pull each individual thread out of the strand at a time and then put the amount of threads, ie 2 back together that will help some with the tangling. Another item is Thread Heaven. It is what counted cross-stitchers use with trouble threads. You run the thread over it, just like you would beeswax, but this doesn't cause any discoloration or staining. Doesn't cost much and lasts forever. The backing fabric is called Aida cloth. You can pick up packages of it in usually 12x18-inch packets and you can get it with smaller, 18 count or larger 11 count squares per inch. (I'm a counted cross-stitcher since 1981.

Hi Gayle. To stop the tangles...try threading your needle BEFORE you cut it off the spool. Also, put some lip balm on your thumb and finger tip and pull the thread through to condition it. :)

I've never been to a scrapbook crop. I just do what I want. I've made lots of scrapbooks and none of them are perfect. I"m sure that all of my photos are off by at least an 1/8th of an inch. I never measure, I only eyeball!

Gwen Loveless I used to go to a monthly crop for years-I never one heard any criticize some one’s personal work. We had ladies who sat and knitted the full two days. One did her multimedia - one did a card clinic. I donated 5 Smash books to a lady who worked on those. We had someone who brought her sewing machine .....it was just a nice place for women to get crafty together. I’m so sorry to hear someone could even tell an 1/8 difference. -those are the people who never need to be at a craft time.

I loved the slow stitching I did on mine like that when we first did them. I think I should pull it out again to do while watching TV at night… so relaxing! We are still two peas in a pod with our furniture refreshing and quilt collecting. I have the quilts my great grandmother made with my Mom during the depression. They used their old dresses and linens that were too full of holes to reuse and made them into quilts, having those quilts really started my love affair of quilts and quilting. I don’t quilt or scrapbook now because don’t want to do precision work anymore, too fiddlie as Tina would say. I fell in love with Junk journaling because I can use what I have and all altogether if I want! I stopped doing my seamstress work for the same reason and my love affair with making handmade journaling really speaks to my heart. We are most definitely sisters of the heart! Love and hugs! 💖🤗💖

Sorry that your Creative Memories experience was not good. My sister (the one I mentioned as my inspirational person in my contest entry) was the consultant. We had crops that were so fun!! She went over and above to make things fun and exciting. I loved those times and enjoyed scrapbooking my only daughter's growing years, at least ten albums full! But I do agree with you that junk journaling is a free-er craft incorporating many more skills and thus creative outlets. I can't wait to try the slow stitch project. I used to do counted cross stitch, sure glad I saved all that adia cloth. I grieve with you about Jimmy Joe, the heart is tender towards those who wiggle their way inside. But as a preschool teacher I saw how therapy dogs helped young children, he will love it and so will those he helps. Blessings -- Cindy

Hi, Gayle! Back in my cross stitch days I was told to separate the threads singly, then put together however many strands you want to use. As you do this this you will see the threads “unravel.” It makes it less likely to tangle.

I used to cross stitch with my mom when I was in high school. That was many years ago. I just recently was blessed with my first grand child so I thought I would do a cross stitch project for the baby shower. Boy....did that take a long time! My eyes don't see as good as they used to. But it was fun to get back in to that and make something special. This slow stitching looks like fun. And it seems like something I could do while watching television with my husband - if I had all the fabric pieces cut and stacked before hand. Something besides fussy cutting :)

Loved hearing about the bunny, brought tears to my eyes, then of course everything else caught up with me and I had to have a good cry. Definitely going to use your journal cover idea and make a fall journal cover. I made one cover like a crazy quilt, all paper and no fabric and zigzagged all the pieces which was fun...but really looking forward to using your idea for the next one. Lovely video!

Gayle, I really enjoyed hearing you speak of your crafting history. You spoke of not being into perfection. Unfortunately (or, fortunately) I am a perfectionist. Once on a job performance I was told my greatest strength was my greatest weakness: being a perfectionist. But, at 71 years of age, I have learned to accept that part of who I am. Because of being this way, though, it takes me forever to finish a project. I have to study and contemplate and be inspired before I actually physically create anything. I wish I was more productive. So, what I create does not have collage elements like what I see you and other ladies create. It's just too random for me! LOLOL!!! But, I'll say it once again. As different as I am in what I create from what you do, the way you patiently and humorously take us through your crafting adventures is a real inspiration for me. I start one of your videos and off I go to do my own thing. Thank you for the time and talent you share with us viewers.

Good morning!! I knew you had a store but I didn't know you collect quilts. 😃 I bought that bunny quilt thinking you would make journal covers. But I'm so glad it is bringing you cozy comfort in your craft room. 😍🐰 I also collect quilts and have family heirlooms that have been handed down a couple generations. When we moved 3 years ago I bought acid free boxes and acid free tissue paper to store them. Nine boxes of old and newer quilts are stored in our daughter's house. I need to go through the boxes and see if our kids want any of them. Loved your slow stitching and the covers are gorgeous!! 💜

From my old cross stitching days I found if I cut my floss too long it would tangle more. I try to keep mine 18-20 inches long. Also, every once in a while let your needle dangle from your piece of work. That helps too. Love slow stitching. My eyes no longer let me cross stitch without a magnifying glass, which I hated. Loving the freedom of slow stitching.

Thread trick... (learned from my design teacher years ago)... threading yarn or thread or string, thread from the starting point of the string and not from where you cut it off. Or it twists. (KZfaq ruined everything by removing email notifications.)

Tip for tangles: Pull the thread off the skein 1 thread at a time, then just hold them together to thread the needle. It will take the twist out it and it will tangle/knot less. Learned that in my cross stitching days. The bird cover is so pretty! 🍄

Another idea for less tangles in your threads. I was taught that holding your threads or yarns about 18 inches - or shoulder to shoulder is the better length to use. (I also floss through the bees wax) loved the video today
