Hi, thank you for your thoughts, I did indeed purchase both devices, the Eversolo for just everyday music listening at home and the RME for work. What swayed me to buy both these products in particular was that they use the same DAC chips and so I had a reliable way to have a consistent monitoring experience for both work and home.

Thanks very much Greg. Do give it a go if you like and you’ve got something to talk about on hifi….it’s not about technical experience imo but actual lived real in person experience. And when these reviewers deliberate technicals but then never mention a better product between two, their technical review goes out the window anyway and it’s all redundant so I’m never worried about that. Simply describing gear what you are using and a comparison between two products on features and sonics (and where you think it exists a mention of best) is all that’s required.

If more great people did self reviews like Robert or loaned me stuff where I could speak more freely then I’d carry on a) editing their videos and b) making my own videos as a hobby less my production values, to see where this goes. In both cases to perpetuate honest credible reviews. This would probably be the best way to grow this channel to 100k plus subscribers but it would have to be collaborative.

You are surmising that it’s Roberts reference Dan…..Also a view is one of many in use so far as reviews go. Ie He heard a difference which another may or may not hear in another system with the RME and Eversolo - that’s the use of a review - corroboration - you can often find similar differences however you set the speakers up in different systems. I suspect if I repeat with my Eversolo and RME (even though akm dac and the adi-2) I’ll get similar results. Does that then mean we discount Robert’s view? What is the probability of use of similar sound in two different systems with a system perceived to not be set up properly, to then say there is no value in Roberts opinion? I’ve been saying this for years - a review is to be looked at with other reviews or buyer opinions to see if common threads can be drawn. Then come back on here and we can say yes x or y said the same (or not) The speakers may be more than dispersive enough to reveal a discernible result and also because he is muting one amp - he is getting a direct a b comparison. Everything else constant except source. We could say that when people swap out Dacs then there is a pause in reconnection so it makes it more challenging to discern change and also he has kept everything the same with the same amps. Also if you don’t think the system is up to it when you don’t know then that can only be reckoned by reference to more opinions anyway - including maybe viewers on trialling if they are deciding to buy either. Again the system being able to reveal the differences is corroborated (or not) by others and consensus. That’s the worth of reviews and can determine best products when most agree. So you never take results seriously or as absolute until they are corroborated by others anyway.

Hi, I take your point with regards to speaker placement not always being in an ideal solution, however, domestic/family situations and of course, having pets, generally dictate where speakers can be placed (at least for me). There are of course successful speaker manufactures who design speakers (like mine) to be placed on a shelf, close to wall boundaries and or a desk top and they are indeed worth checking out, very successful companies like Genelec and Adam audio to name but a few.

@@rm-mastering I think that’s being generous Robert . Why are they called bookshelves. I think you can set speakers up far from ideal and still get good results. The fact you directly a to b the speakers and hear a change means why is placement paramount to exclude heard difference in that context. The op hasn’t explained the point

The idea is to make viewer reviews about the content and the way Robert scripted it out is exactly what people need - nobody is going to be A1 in a first video too - My first reviews were terrible. Presenting is a skill that takes ages and I still look at it as a work in progress.

But again, Robert did a good job, even too much like a professional, like a tv news reporter - that is my remark. Like my remark on Hegel's - or other amps - very quiet and dark background in big soundstage ok or not? In some cases yes in others not. So such strength can become a weakness...:-))

How only $500 dac? My view is Dacs will be similar at least considering my adi-2 dac fs. Rme’s are definitely not mediocre.

a way too simplistic a view. When you account the gear, the diminishing returns and a well designed DAC it's not that hard to get to this. Your post is speculation and even if you have tried both your view will be based around the gear you use in your room. That's the value of a review - not imposing some absolute quality with gear but using it to take a view based on the kit used. Personally I think Robert is bang on the money considering how good the DAC in the Eversolo is.

Of course that's possible. There is different markets, different prices., differing manufacturing economies of scale, different mark-ups, loss leaders, hifi firms on the make with crazy price and a whole plethora of economic reasons. I'm not saying all apply here between these products but these are reasons why you see this!
