Heahmund's deep faith and willingness to suffer for his belief is very beautiful. I think people resonate with these stories because we currently live in one of the most materialist ages that this world has seen. Someone who is willing to die for God is a noble soul who most people will naturally admire. RIP Heahmund, God's warrior.

Heahmund was the most honest of all Christians: A flawed one. He made mistakes. But he always tried to see the good in them, the lessons to learn and he asked for forgiveness. His love for Lagertha was a violation of his vows of chastity... maybe he should have stopped being a Bishop and instead been a common Christian warrior and married Lagertha. Lagertha cruelly accused him of never loving her. Just because a man wants to stop sinning and be honest to his faith doesn't mean he lacks love for the woman he is sinning with. It just means if they can't both walk the path of righteousness, he'll walk it alone. She could have always joined him. Nonetheless, I loved this flawed Christian character. Imperfect, struggling with understanding things... but he did his best. I remember his passion, his unyielding faith and his determination to never quit trying, no matter that he fell short of what he aspired to, he kept trying. That is the definition of Bishop Heahmund: A Christian warrior that never gave up.

I think they tried to portray him as some radical extremist and I was afraid he would kind of be an enemy, but I quickly liked him, and realize that we are missing his masculine staunchness and courage in today's world. I did a read up on Bp. Heahmund and even the Russian Orthodox Church counts him as a Martyr. Hard to imagine a time when Christianity in Europe was so battered that even across such vast distances someone who defended the faith would be proposed as a model for imitation across such vast distances for all the newly born lands of Christians.

@@augustsonseventy42 the Russians themselves faced a lot of attacks by the Vikings who allied with some Slavs to create a hegemony in that region. The Vikings assimilated and became Slavs themselves and when they converted, they venerated St Heahmund and held him in the highest regard. That is coming from a people who also have Viking DNA which shows the Vikings or Norsemen were really flexible with their ways, inter marrying, adopting new customs, settling in and eventually becoming one of them and sharing the same values thus.

I think he was a great character that portrayed a deeply holy and religious man who was truly struggling between faith and love/passion.

The crazy thing here is that there was a real Bishop Heahmund. "Bishop Heahmund resided in the kingdom of Wessex and was loyal to King Aethelred. Bishop Heahmund was a Saxon Bishop of Sherborne and a holy warrior, Heahmund aka The Warrior Bishop is considered and is written of in the ancient texts as one of the most ferocious warrior during that time, and became an inspiration for many churchmen to balance religious beliefs with militaristic duties during the middle ages. He fought alongside the Saxons and and was present on the field where King Aethelred I met his end. He was extremely ruthless towards pagans. Heahmund was so great a warrior that it impressed the Vikings to an extent where they not only spared his life in one battle but asked him to join them, for which Heahmund is widely remembered as the only English warrior to both fight and fight alongside the Vikings. Heahmund died at the Battle of Mereturn in March 871, also known as the Battle of Merton."

The Lord showed him the place where his life will end. To tell him to repent before it is too late and he made his decision to repent and had said his last goodbye to Lagertha. Perhaps he was also longing for Lagertha to join him in Paradise as well when he called out to her.

I love his character so much. He is my highlight in vikings. There aren't many characters like Bishop Heahmund that still touch me after a long time despite such a short screentime. The way he screams at the end towards his love.. true passion.

This video is AMAZING! A masterful tribute indeed. Heahmund was one of my favs, he was just so, devout, yet ruthless, a man of god fighting his own demons, i was truly shook when he died. Again, u did an amazing job!!! U earned my sub, friend!
