Even if the traders themselves didn’t make it that far, it’s not inconceivable that slaves from various parts of Africa still made it to Northern Europe. There was also a great deal of movement prior to this time as the Roman Empire had the habit of stationing its legionaries far from their homelands to prevent dissent. The idea that only white people were in Europe until the 15th century is utter nonsense created by the Victorians and similar groups who believed they were superior because of the colour of their skin.

Actually in the 11th century when this show takes place the Pagan religion was still practiced in many places, Christianity didn't take full hold in Sweden until the 1200's and lasted much longer in Iceland, paganism lasted in the Baltics region into the 1400's even in the face of the Northern Crusaders which were sent by the Pope to wipe those beliefs out starting in 1200's. Christianity didn't just walk in and win without a struggle.
