More than 8,500 Lansing residents received a notice earlier this month raising the question of whether their water service lines were made of lead, galvanized material, or unknown material.
"We wanted to send out about 2,000-2,500 letters," explained Jeff Pintar, an engineer from Robinson Engineering who serves as Lansing's Village Engineer. The number of recipients had to be increased however, because the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency changed the way a line is classified as "unknown." That change resulted in four times as many lines being considered "unknown," and four times as many residents receiving a required notice.
Pintar explained the situation to the Village Board at the June 18, 2024, Committee of the Whole meeting.
