Baroque violin bow by The Bow Studio (Stråkstudion), Gävle, Sweden.
Special thanks to Freja and Elin for the clothes.
Special thanks to Erik Orvehed for the off-camera help and impromptu starring.
No thanks to the wind for noises and tractors for the same reason.
I guess they do have to work though, it's the countryside after all.
Thanks to the llamas for being so silent, that was refreshing.
Comment "Next time with a tape recorded up your nose" if you've read all this.
Recorded June 2023 in Uppland, Sweden.

Some of my favorite tunes are the simple ones. Haven''t commented for awhile. Still recovering from a tree falling on me. My little finger on my left hand barely works after a year. Always a joy listening to your music!

Something so special about the haunting/beautiful sound Scandi folk music often conveys, it resonates with a deep part of my being, the tunes seem to translate memories much older than the songs themselves. Folklore has the same effect. Love your videos, and I checked out your Spotify and I am hooked! thankyou for doing what you do! Long live folk music!

Hi Emelie, loved this video! I am not a violinist, nor, at my age, do have aspirations to become one. I'm getting a bit interested in the Nyckelharpa and Hurdy Gurdy though. The credits at the top of the video were brilliant.

In Swedish it is called "by-fåne", in Danish "landsby-tosse" and in Norwegian "by-tulling" :) A short lecture of the word "village-fool" or "village-idiot" in Scandinavian. I do not have the word in Icelandic or Farose though, help me please, for I want to know them all, for I collect them all as a Scandinavian and linguisticually. You on the other hand are no fool. A skilled musician instead.

Excuse a perhaps stupid question, but why change the name of an already known music song? I find that a little strange, almost like trademark infringement, if such a thing exists in Scandinavian folk music.
@EmelieWaldken
@EmelieWaldken 11 ай бұрын
I don't know the story behind that new name to the tune - only that it apparently happened during the mentioned album's recording. In general, for traditional tunes, if it doesn't already have a "title" (but only a descriptive name giving info about the collector and/or place of origin), it's commonly accepted to give the tune a new name. It can actually be a good thing, as we sometimes have several "polska efter Sven Donat" (for example). So giving them more "personal" names/titles helps distinguishing them !
@fiedelmina
@fiedelmina 2 ай бұрын
the men who re-named the tune are very renowned fiddlers in their community who have a high status that absolutely allows them the right to rename a tune which they teach to new people.. Also they didn't really re-name it - before, it had no name and was just called by the village it came from - Enviken. I learned this waltz myself from Jonny Soling as Idioten's vals. (The way he told it, the new name was rather about a person who regularly played this tune not being very.... nice. Not as in "not intelligent".)

Thank you very much for a detailed and reasonable explanation. In general, I think it's sad that the same song has, is known, under several different names. This applies regardless of whether it is folk music or schlager festival music. That's just my opinion, though.
@fiedelmina

@@seriksson9721 I think if you call this a "song" you need to learn a bit more about music. It's an instrumental dance tune, not a song.

Hello, this is actually not making fun of people with disabilities. It might look like it but it's an homage to Monty Python's Village Idiot video, in which the "idiots" are by no means stupid people, but in fact manipulating the society to make a living. Here's the video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oKxdds5-1bfYnI0.html

I love you videos and this tune, but I don’t think you have any idea how completely offensive that whole ‘village idiot’ routine is. If you don’t know what I mean, consider what someone with cerebral palsy would think watching you make weird gestures and silly sounds. Time of an edit! (If you must play the idiot, go with the witty Shakespearean fool instead)
