The funny thing about the Village People is that most people that think about them remember them for the gimmick - a cop, a native American, a construction worker, etc. - and the song YMCA, but what a lot of people tend to forget is just how talented they were. Their music is so well-done, well-performed, and gets your heart pounding, and yet at the same time there's a longing and an emotion behind the lyrics - especially in this song - that make their performances unforgettable. They truly were artists.

A lot of people couldn't see beyond the costumes which was seen as a "gay gimmick". However they represented "universal equality". Look deeper the vocal delivery & harmony work is highly impressive.

@@danielbrown6112 Watching this is so surreal!!! Did you notice that there are no close-ups of the sailor? His dancing is also off. Watch around 2:24 in slow motion. He has the turn wrong. I'm a dancer, I can tell. Interestingly, in Macho Man there are no close-ups of that guy either. I think the scene where Forrest Gump meets JFK looks more real than this, but I guess I have been wearing my tin foil hat too long, time for a break. 😉😅

I love this song. I originally thought it was by the petshop boys.😅. On a different note, I suggest you listen to 'I ran' by a flock of seagulls. Hope you enjoy it!

This is a very hard song to sing. It's intricacy and complexity and power has to be sustained until the end. A brilliant song that invokes a lot emotions that can only be achieved by perfection. I'm studying this song and I think only the original singer can do it justice but someone has to try.
