I was kind of disappointed with how Sandy Claws has really no purpose other than to be a visual aid. I think he should have been a "Prisoner/Hero" that gets shuffled into the fate deck after four Imposter Sandy Claws cards are played and can be played as a hero.

Single packs need to be saved for the extreme fan favorite characters. Venom and Oogie both fit the bill. Hardpressed as to who they would pick for a Star Wars single pack. They already used breakout villain Boba Fett. Gotta do the Sanderson Sisters for the next single pack, imo. Seeing merch for that like crazy now!

There are actually a few cards that allow you to move another player. Shorty in Mother Gothel's deck allows you to move Gothel to any location. King Stefan does the same

I thought of these too. But I think Sally may be the first Hero to actually restrict a player’s movement.

Ok now I’m wondering if I’m understanding Sally correctly. Does she force you to only go to the locations adjacent to HER or force you to only move one location over at a time?

I was happy they made him glow in the dark and gave him his dice. What surprised me was the sleeve on the box. It made him the shadow on the moon at night! Which is just a great touch. Honestly, the only villain I'd like to see added at this point is King Candy

Such a great review, you all! The lack of text contrast was the first thing I noticed, too. Good call. Seems to me the Sandy Claws need not be cardboard since he’s not moved around as much Rapunzel or Buzz. Also, on the Mayor, with seven other Hero cards (not counting Jack) the odds are slim that the hero pulled upon his defeat will be Jack. And even if it were, isn’t the Mayor kind of two-faced? Idk. Can I say finally that I love the way you two pronounce “Oogie Boogie” so crisply? It's like an ASMR sound! 😊 Love Villainous; love you guys! Thank you for your work!

The thing is, Jack Skellington cannot be played as a Hero when he is played from the Fate deck outside of having to find him after discarding Sandy Claws, so Jack Skellington couldn't be played by defeating Mayor of Halloween Town. So, there is actually NO chance for Jack to be drawn from that vanquish action.

A couple comments about your interpretation of this expansion design. The question of whether you (as Oogie Boogie) want to play a hero to the board as a result of vanquishing Mayor of Halloween Town. I can actually see a scenario where you were really hampered by heroes or whatnot and you could get yourself relief by vanquishing Mayor of Halloween Town while risking drawing a hero. So, there may not be a reason to want to draw a hero, but there is a reason to vanquish said hero for relief's sake. The question of why Sandy Claws is a normal Fate card rather than a hardcopy tile. I quickly noticed this when unpacking my box of Filled With Fright, and after a short deliberation, I think I have a plausible and sensible explanation. The developers probably made this decision because it lead to the best gameplay experience they could go with, in terms of diversifying the different fate cards. They may not have been able to get the right balance in the functionality of the Fate cards that was ideal if they made Sandy Claws a separate tile and used 15 Fate cards that could be shuffled as normal. The decision to use 14 of said Fate cards (besides Sandy Claws) was probably closer to the balance they wanted than 15. These are only my theories of course, and I graciously respect your interpretation all the same. I hope this deliberation on my part was useful to you in any way, as you clearly put a lot of work into interpretation and discussion on these game designs.

I have played Oogie Boogie and found him very enjoyable. They way his cards allow to cheat is awesome. Can't wait to see how Oogie matches up against all the other villins.

Maybe next year Halloween, we'll get Alister from Disney's Haunted Mansion Another than that, great that we got the boogie, I think single packs are okay as long the boxes contains unique pieces. Of course i dont want to see poorly designed villains by being rushed so thats all fine in my books. Still waiting on Clayton, Commander Rourke, actually they also add Charles Muntz and call the trio box something like, "the hunt begins" or "whatever it takes" If they ever do a duo box, my wish would be Clu and Auto, they'll probably wont do Clu and do instead the MCP (which would be a bummer). And lastly my greatest want is still, (and sadly, i know that most likely not gonna happen). MASTER Xehanort.

3:38 Actually. King Stefan (fate card) can move Mal to any location and if she gets moved to a location with one of her curses on it, it removes the curse.

The mayor effect is there to encourage the use of the villain card vanquish actions alongside a realm vanquish action. You can vanquish the major using the card, roll well and vanquish the next hero too (bathtub is really great for getting set up too) . If you have spiders in the mix or bat's it gives you cards, power or the chance to pick up lock, shock or barrel again (I think barrel lowering die rolls is probably the most valuable) vanquishing can end up being a very valuable action for Oogie, if you set up the perfect 'ally trap' very themematic I thought.

Also, if you get Sally then you move yourself to another location and can perform all the actions there, so it’s like you got 1 and a half turns

If Sally is in play, can oogie only move to adjacent locations to her or just adjacent locations to his current location at the start of each turn?

We read it as he can only move to adjacent locations of his current location, rather than locations adjacent to sally. It makes more sense to us this way as otherwise you’d only ever put Sally on the 1st or 4th space.

I got him the other day and I am really impressed with all the components. I do agree that Sandy Claws should have been a cardboard card and I also don't understand the Mayor effect....but other than that I absolutely love it he is definitely one of my new favorites

I think the Mayor is just forcing you to play another Hero when he is defeated which is meant to be negative for you since he’s a Fate Card. It makes for an interesting decision on whether to let him be to prevent a worse Hero coming out or whether or to just deal with him and the next Hero he brings out as quickly as possible.

Got to play Oogie tonight - he’s a lot of fun with the dice! Not making Sandy Claws a tile also means there’s only 14 cards to cycle through in the Fate deck rather than the usual 15 so that’s strange too.

I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned that the dice are not standard dice. The 2 is opposite the 6 and the 1 is opposite the 5. I was wondering why because I don't think that this changes the odds of what you roll. I watched the movie and the movie dice seemed to be standard die configurations.

Oh that’s so interesting! Honestly, we wouldn’t have caught that. That’s an interesting find though! Perhaps just oversight during the mapping/design or it was done due to the design/look & feel of those side by side.

I am super annoyed with the single villain pack. I have very little shelf space and I can't honestly justify adding this box to the shelf for just one villain. And it doesn't look like they priced it any lower. So, I would have personally rather waited until they had a three pack stand alone. That being said, my daughter is OBSESSED with Oogie Boogie, so we're clearly going to buy it. But I'm still salty about it. Maybe I'll wait and see if I can get it cheaper second hand or something. Still seems too expensive for just one villain.

Frollos thematic is a bit problematic so I doubt we will see him, same goes for Radcliffe. Personally Shear Khan is the biggest name that's missing.

Great video, y'all! I understand Jonathan's point about giving the developers time to put out solid content, but I think the single packs are really unfriendly to consumers in terms of price and storage. The Worst Takes It All had 6 villains for $40 (about $6.67 per villain) while this one is $15 for one villain. Stated another way, if The Worst Takes It All was at this new pricing, it would have cost $90!!

Well Frollo is possible, if he got to be a playable character in Disney's Sorcerer Arena then he might have a chance, and MAN do I want that Tarzan rep with Clayton in the game! Also I get ya with Mr. Waternoose, but Randall is much more recognizable, iconic, and popular as a villain to represent Monster's Inc. He returned as such in Kingdom Hearts 3 for crying out loud lol.

I know it’s going to be Randall and I get it, it’s hopeful thinking lol and he has an awesome/sad story arch with monster university. Maybe will get a lavender box or something. Yes! Frollo being in sorcerer area doesn’t make it completely out of the question! He could have some super dark cool cards.

@@TerreDiceGames Pending of course if Randall gets the coverbox treatment. Take this with a grain of salt but I remember hearing a rumour that Randall might be in a set with Belleweather and with Shere Khan as the leading villain. But again, rumour. Well we'll certainly have to wait and see on that. I just know that if Clayton somehow DOES make it in, then anything is possible.
