The largest metamorphosis of popular music occurred during the 1960s. The first few years of the decade (featured in this episode) saw mostly a continuation of the Rock and Soul that took over the charts in the latter half of the 1950s. This was just before a huge number of other styles would burst onto the scene including Motown, The British Invasion, Garage Rock & Surf Rock...to name only a few. Enjoy this show where we explore the beginnings of this incredible period of radio hits. Mahalo for watching!

It’s a family hobby to spin the discs. I used to like doing it too! I didn’t have any records of my own. People would give me their records to play at school during the summer. (Late 60s)

I get a kick out of the 3 styles of queueing the next record. Zbear does the 3/4 reverse rotation and holds the turntable for 5-10 seconds before releasing. Dad doesn't do the 3/4, but methodical in finding the starting point, but no hold, just sets and releases. The kid, a little more freestyle, spins the turntable backwards, stops it - "good enough!" and off goes the headset!

Another excellent video. It's nice to see your son picking up a liking for this music, which I'm guessing was popular about 45-50 years before he was born. My Dad did the same thing. I was born in '56, so my "growing up" years (musically) went from the British Invasion to the beginning of disco. However, my Dad exposed me to "his" music, which was from the Swing Era....Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Artie Shaw, Stan Kenton (Kenton was his favorite), etc., and vocalists like Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Tex Beneke, Louis Jordan, The Andrews Sisters, Mills Brothers, Jo Stafford, Dinah Shore, etc. I am glad he did. I developed a liking and appreciation for the music of that era, as well as an appreciation and a lot of respect for the musicians in those bands. (I still think of Goodman as the best clarinetist ever) Thank you. And by the way, the kid's got great technique.

There was a glitch in the video, at 6:30 the intended song didn't play (Let's Go, Let's Go, Let's Go by Hank Ballard & The Midnighters). Also, the boy means well, but forgets to have the volume presets in place, often getting them up just in time, often by his dad!

There were a lot of variations of lyrics to Louie, Louie--I was curious which would show up here--was fun back in the day arguing over who had the most correct--were they really that pornographic as some suggested or just suggestive? My fuel injected Sting-Ray and a 413, Revvin up their engines and they sound real mean--Jack it up, Jack it up, How they gonna shut you down? Don't mean nothin'-thrown in just for fun 🤣🤣🤣
