I still remember him and Patty Loveless doing this at George Jones' funeral service, and bawling like a baby.😕 He could hardly get through it because he was pretty close to George, but Patty was there to give him support and pick up the vocals when he couldn't get it out. Probably one of the most emotional songs Vince has ever written... and one of the best! Great review man, keep 'em coming!🎼😁👍👍

"Go to Heaven a-shoutin', Love for the Father and the Son" those words always make me cry. I saw recently that he performed it at a funeral with Patty Lovelass and he was so over come with grief he couldn't continue, and she carried him. I can't recall the country singer who passed but he had requested this song by Vince to be sung. Wonderful, powerful music. I see from other comments it was George Jones' funeral.

The lines "You weren't afraid to face the devil. You were no stranger to the rain" refer to the Keith Whitley song titled I'm No Stranger to the Rain. Vince Gill wrote this song as a memorial to his "brother" in spirit, Keith Whitley, after he passed away. If I may make a suggestion, you really should listen to that song by Keith Whitley.

Vince started writing this song after his friend Keith Whitley passed from alcohol poisoning. The line "no stranger to the rain" is the title for Keith's song. Soon after, his brother passed. There are many that say, and I'm one of them, that the "tingly feeling in the crown of your head" is The Comforter (The Holy Spirit) letting you know that He is there with you. My brother took his own life when he was 46 - about 17 years ago - None of us saw it coming, and it devastated my life for awhile. But to this day, I have a very hard time making it to the end of this song. One of the most beautiful, & meaningful, Inspired songs ever written. And yes.... you can't beat the precision, spot on harmony of these three. It's almost like they are blood brothers & sisters - some of the Best harmony always seems to come from blood family members..... I'm a fairly new listener and subscriber to your channel, but out of about 30 or so channels that I follow, your channel quickly migrated to the top of my list. Thank you for what you do...... Danny

Another great song he sang is "HOUSE OF LOVE" that he did w/his now wife Amy Grant. The 1st time I saw and heard this song I wud have sworn that they were married, or at least a couple This song was written by Amy not Vince Vince Gill is VERY respected in the music industry...a true gentleman and scholar... Good morning brother blessed Sunday to you! I just discovered you about an hour ago and I had to hook you up to my Roku so that I could watch your face and your reactions. This performance is a gift from God. As I mentioned earlier, R&B, soul and gospel has always been my first love but every now and then you encounter a song that makes you stop dead in your tracks. Such as the case for this song. I absolutely insist once again that you listen to the recorded version of this song so as to appreciate the nuances in it because it is so crisp and clear and angelic. He couldn't have chosen a more perfect person to sing this live performance with him as far as Alison Krauss is concerned. She is a gifted harmonizer. I would like to share with you my personal story of this song. I lost my only brother DJ on January 4th of 2004. My brother and I were Die Hard music lovers and we spent many an hour singing together. Much the same as Vince Gill's brother, my brother's life was equally as troubled as a direct result of the lives we grew up having. At the time of my brother's passing, he was incarcerated for a $10.52 check of which he spent 17 years of his life. My brother was a beautiful person and he was very very talented and brilliant but my brother was an IV drug user. My brother as a result of his drug use had contracted HIV AIDS as a direct result of having shared a needle with a fellow user. My brother survived 10 years HIV positive and he probably wouldn't have lived that long had he not been incarcerated and had regular Medical Care. In the wee hours of January 4th 2004 my brother suffered and esophageal hemorrhage while incarcerated. Sadly, my brother's life was not valuable to the authorities of that prison and instead of flying him to a hospital that could have otherwise treated him they languished while my brother bled to death. Oh, they did eventually take him to the hospital where he only lived a short time but my mother and his 12 year old daughter were present for his actual death. This was my mother's only son and I'm sure you can imagine her broken heart. I made it within 11 miles of the hospital only to receive word that my brother had passed. As I reflect upon this, I am thankful that the Lord did not allow me to witness his actual passing because just the thought of it breaks my heart. When I think of my brother, I choose to think of him singing a song like this but instead when I sing it, I sing it towards the Heavens, where I know he finally rests in peace. I don't know if you ever really get the opportunity to read all the messages that are left behind for you but in the event that you do I hope that my truth touches your soul and that you say a prayer for my brother DJ. I thank you for the privilege of your time.

Vince sang this at George Jones' funeral, and I believe this same lady sang with him, but he cried so much that he couldn't make it through the whole song by himself........it would make you cry........My Mom got to meet him back stage at one of his concerts.......and took a picture with him.......he's her all time favorite.....she's got that picture where she can see it every day~~~~~~

I lost my big brother two year ago now, and I'm almost 40 and I'm still not strong enough to get trough a day without thinking about him and missing him. This song helps me every day. I just pray it's true, and I'll see him again and be able to talk to him once more. We have so much to catch up on. I didn't know, as most don't, that brothers have a bond that is indescribable, as I'm sure sisters do too. That's what I miss the most, and wish more than anything to get back. I always took him for granted and thought the he would always be there for me, as he always had been. Until the day I got the call that he was gone. This song really is one of the few that helps ease the pain, if only for a short time. Thank you Mr. Gill.

Patty Loveless did her part that day by trying to carry Vince over the rough spots of the song. Together, they both did a fantastic job, that would've made The Possum proud. R.I.P. George Jones. Vince started writing this song at the time of Keith Whitley's death but, couldn't complete it then. Two years later, when Vince's older brother died, Vince finished, "Go Rest High On That Mountain." Anything by Vince Gill is excellent. Try listening to, "Look At Us."
