Job Prospects for Chemical Engineers at UC Berkeley
Note: I was an undergraduate ChemE for class of 2018.
Job fairs: very competitive at Berkeley - lots of students and lines up to reps from firms around the bay area. Lot of students would dress up and have business cards and resumes in hand to give to reps.
Where to go to school? Go where you see yourself working (Bay Area, SoCal, Texas).
What are advantages of going to UCB? Shows you can be competitive and work together with your colleagues. Brand name school with a tough major.
Advantages of UCSB: you’ll learn ChemE better.
Advantages of private schools: industry connections so easier time getting a job, but you’ll spend a lot more in tuition as well.
My path: I was working in IT operations since my freshman year in college, started cheme at Berkeley, moved to a software development role and customer support, then moved into biotech.
