1. Go to all GSI sections, find which GSI is most helpful for you
2. Take initiative and put yourself out there to join a study group with your friends/peers - then you can divide and conquer problem sets and teach each other how to do them.
3. Enroll in more courses to find which teacher is the one you like most - there were a ton of teachers for quantum, they all have their own things they care about for grading weights
4. Don’t worry about GPA - it is just a number and employer’s don’t care - they care about the degree and the school
5. Apply to jobs early on - see what’s out there that you like and ask employers what they want in a strong candidate
6. Know what you want in a job/career
7. Do something you enjoy every day - even during finals: for me, bike riding and having a nice dinner with my family.
8. Last year was my favorite - it’s when you do experiments and give presentations and everything that you learned starts to come together (heat and mass transfer, distillation, thermo, process design, chemical reactor design, boundary layers - being able to answer the question: why? Why does mass transfer? Concentration gradient. Why does energy move? Temperature gradient.

Hello Vincent, I’m an admitted fall 2021 student in Chem.E major at Berkeley. Do you know which class should I take in this summer? I’m a junior lv transfer, I’m planning to take engin 7 and one more class. What is your suggestion? Btw if you have social media, I would like to talk to you since you seem very knowledgeable on Chem.E.

Hi Vincent! I'm a recent accepted transfer from a CC and wanted to ask if you knew the average graduating senior GPA for ChemE? I'm interested in going to grad school and would like to know how to better prepare myself going into Berkeley.

Hi Tian, there’s a website called berkeleytime.com that shows you grade distributions for each class and each professor so that will provide the most accurate info. If you work in labs as an undergrad, your PI or post doc also gets to give you a grade on your transcript which definitely helps boost your GPA, the max is 4 units per semester I believe. For grad school, while gpa is important, I think it’s even more important to have relevant undergrad research experience to talk about on essays and during interviews, and Berkeley definitely has some great opportunities for that.
