In about 2009 or 2010, I was working at a shopping center with a food court. I think Jared was doing tours of Subways at the time. During one of my breaks, one of my coworkers asked me if I was gonna meet Jared. I saw no reason for it. He was just someone who was famous for eating sandwiches. So I decided not to. Can't tell you how happy I was with that decision a few years later.

I didn't know he was only 22 when the commercials started. Dude looked 40 for 20 years.

The first red flag with Jared is the fact he looked 40 at 24 years old.

It reminds me of an incident that happened at my school. We had one kid, seemed like a nice guy, taking unconsented and inappropriate pictures of girls in his grade and selling them through discord. He would be suspended, however near the end of his suspension, students lined the street protesting that he shouldn’t come back. And honestly, I don’t blame the students. He was putting them in physical danger.

When I was around 7 I met Jared at a sponsored event, I even got a picture with him. Makes my skin crawl thinking about what was probably going through his mind with me standing right next to him

Seriously? “Subway kids”. “Jaredsballs” ? Married to a Pediatric nurse ? Went to multiple schools and had a childhood obesity charity ? The foreshadowing and irony is so massive here

This man really had the easiest life ever and he just threw it away

I remember I was out one day, planning on going to the mall downtown. One of the paths to the mall is by the courthouse. On this day, I wondered why there were so many people and news vans outside. .....yeah, you can guess what was going on on that particular day I walked by the Indianapolis courthouse that fine sunny day.

I don't think that having Jared as a spokesperson accounted for all the growth and success of Subway. At the time, Subway was really different and a fresh alternative to fast food. The fresh baked bread was something incredibly new in fast food, too. They could have gotten a pet rock as a spokesperson and still would have done great.

The idea that Jared was around kids for so many years is so horrifying

The inmates that have the hardest time in prison are the ones that have done crimes to kids, because many inmates have kids of their own they aren’t allowed to see and/or they find people who prey on children the lowest of the low. So yeah, he’s having a hard time in there.

He didn’t just became a sex offender, he RUINED SUBWAY’S REPUTATION. Through no fault of their own

I remember in high school, he came and spoke to us during an assembly. He seemed so great and inspirational. Crazy now looking back and seeing how much of a monster he is.

Jared actually came to my elementary school when I was younger when he was going around promoting Subway. Still weirds me out to this day and I'm in my 30s now.

Fun fact: I go to the same high school Jared went to, and we have a wall with famous alumni that went to our school. He was once on that wall, but nowadays, he's probably sitting in one of the storage rooms, where he belongs.

I’m a former Subway franchise owner who met him several times. He was a nasty and rude a$$hole who thought he was way more than he truly was. It was common knowledge among the franchisees that his alleged diet was BS and his demeanor was creepy.

Subway went from the disaster of the Jared ads and into the disaster of the five dollar footlongs, a promo that worked SO well, it bankrupted franchisees and angered millions of customers when the promo was retired in favor of higher prices for the same food. The amount of good will just trashed and burned like garbage is epic.

Fun little fact: my mom, who was a detective for crimes against children in Sarasota county, FL; she was the one of the first detectives to start an investigation on Jared based off a complaint given to the station. She claims it was about a week or so before the FBI took over the case because (spoilers) they had started building a federal case against him. Always thought that was kind of an odd little family history.

The fact that the large majority of people in our civilized world don’t understand how a calorie deficit works really makes me wonder if health education is ever seriously attempted on a basic level for young people.

No joke, my mom is 4’11” and has always looked younger than her age. When she travels she often sticks her hair in pigtails so it’s out of the way but doesn’t get annoying on a headrest. When she was coming back from some trip when I was a toddler (so she was like 25-ish, and again looked significantly younger) Jared was at baggage claim while she was waiting for hers. He started chatting her up and was freakishly, almost cartoonishly friendly like her. He asked her stuff like if she was waiting for her parents to pick her up or something, and once she was like “no I’m just gonna pick my car up from the lot and drive home” he politely ended the convo. She didn’t think much of him treating her like a kid because it happened all the time back then lmao. She had ZERO idea who she was even talking to until she saw him in a commercial a while later. She chalked it up to a cool, funny encounter with a celebrity and moved on with her life. Then when the news came out she looked at the whole encounter SO differently lmao

That’s what I hated about the whole Jared thing even when this whole “Eating Healthy” message was becoming a Fad. Jared always talked about eating Subway sandwiches and “badly” comparing them to other Fast Food restaurants. But never once did he ever talk about things such as Body Types, Different Foods and Different Diets or exercise. He was simply reacting to a FAD message. And seeing how all this ended up. I have to laugh at this outcome.

Jared Fogle is the reason today why you don't see some random guy as the spokesperson for anything. It's almost always established celebrities now. There's too much of a chance something like this could happen again, and no company wants to take that chance.

I can't believe it was only 2015 when in he was raided. It feels like we've known this goof's dark side for so much longer than that. Time has lost all meaning.

I worked in television a number of years ago, well before any of his crimes got revealed. I and many of my colleagues have had our share of celebrity encounters, good and bad. Jared was unanimously despised. It’s amazing he said that “15 mins of fame” quote because everybody I knew who met him told me that he carried himself like he was hot shit, more so than others with real, lasting accomplishments. The fact that he called himself “daddy” is just hilarious thinking back to that time period. Dude thought he was a cultural icon because he put himself into a massive calorie deficit every day while eating low quality bread, meat, and vegetables.

We discussed him in my criminal justice class this past week, I learned a couple extra bits. 1) While Russell Taylor is still responsible, he was himself a victim of Jared's. Regarding physical abuse, Taylor had a gluten intolerance, but Jared forced him to eat donuts and other things that would harm his health. Taylor, last I recall, had a history of being a victim of abuse since childhood, and it's not uncommon to hear how victims would later become predators and keep the cycle aloop. 2) A 60-something year-old inmate named Steven/Stephen Nigg absolutely beat the FUCK out of Jared when he went to prison. When asked why he did it, Nigg only said something to the equivalent of, "I did it for the people." Cool shit.
