@@audimaster5000 I believe pain to be an innate response out of fear for survival. Without the sense of pain, would we still have the sensation of feeling? Pain is the heightened extreme variance of an itch.

@@meanbean2248 You can have feeling without pain, there's been plenty of human cases of that. The kids born with it are a huge hassle because they'll claw their eyes as babies, or chew their tongues into hamburger meat. There are also people who can feel pain, but have zero sense of fear. Another subset of problematic children lol they don't get that innate sense of urgency and fear when they see something like a snake, something which is burned into our instincts to be afraid of

@@ameise2337 sure, if there is enough and you leave it for long enough. I just looked it up though, and the primary disinfection from UV light is inactivation, aka removing the ability of them to multiply. There's some stuff it outright kills, but most stuff is merely alive but castrated.

I have a jar of pondwater, and there is some sort of worm that has a shell like structure similar to a caddisfly. It holds onto things, and retracts into the shell when scared. I have no idea what it is!

If this is helpful to anyone; I pour vinegar into a plastic spray bottle and spray my produce. I let work for 5 minutes or so and then rinse off, then fill the sink with tap water and soak the produce letting it rehydrate. After that I put some 7th Generation dish soap in the water and wash the produce. Everything tastes better and lasts longer

And more importantly, the concentration. If people use vinegar at the typical 5% acidic acid, then dilute it further in a spray bottle - mist then wipe, the effectiveness is far less then a drop onto the slide and watching.

Yeah try telling my mother-in-law this, she's one of those homeschool-only fundamentalist moms that have to do everything all natural, purposefully doesn't believe in science, medicine, or doctors & will only clean her house with vinegar which my husband said when growing up it never worked for cleaning grime & took so much longer than it had to just to clean a mirror. When we first moved in together & we bought just the normal disinfectants & cleaning supplies that I use he was so amazed at how much easier it was to clean anything than using just vinegar water.

just because I program my robot to jump back when you damage it does not mean it's conscious. What you're really referring to is called sentience, and it's agreed by the entire field that it starts no lower than reptiles, but most likely doesn't start until at least mammals, but the best evidence points to humans and possibly orangutans being sentient....but orangutans may have less evolved form of it, experiencing something more dissociated and instinct driven than us. Basically there is a difference between being sentient and acting in ways that make you appear sentient. Of course an organism evolves to react to damage, but there is no sentience required for that, and absotely no area for such a thing to exist within some creatures' nervous systems without at least a decently complex brain. You should be really pissed at the people who gave you this notion because this stuff can almost get so far off as to come off as religious to anyone like me who is in the sciences sometimes. People I work with, even in the universities refer to vegetarianism/veganism as a religion these days, which tbh I never expected...but still I'd be pissed if I were you. Someone's been using you to push a crusade it looks like.
