Imagine a kid, about 7 or 8, who hears about this really great game called "Super Mario World." The kid already has a Genesis, and doesn't know he has to get a SNES to play it, so he just says to his parents "can I have this game called Super Mario World?" And so, for Christmas, he gets Super Mario World 64. And he's so excited, and will be cool with his friends. Then, he puts it in the Genisis and it's just this piece of shit. Many years later, he goes to a pawn shop or something, and finds a copy of the real Super Mario World and buys it because of childhood memories. And then he plays the game, and sees how much better it is. And at that very moment, he realized his childhood was a lie, made by a bootlegger for a few quick bucks.

What confuses me about these bootlegs is how they are both incredibly lazy while also being needlessly difficult to make. They rip all the sprites/assets from Mario games and yet they don't import the Mario sprite for half of them. I also am confused by their obsession of Jeopardy because I know several other Russian bootlegs use the Jeopardy theme, particularly for the "You win" screen.

METAS0MA the reason for not directly importing mario sprites is simple. copyright. they would be beat down quicker if they used actual mario resources. however, these are technicly legal.

I know I'm over half a decade late but the main reason that happens is because the bootleg cartridges are made with far cheaper hardware than original ones, meaning they tend to have much less space to fit the game inside and have to cut a ton of corners to make the game at least playable, like spritesheet sizes and music quality

The Creepypasta would be like this: When I was a child I used to be a great fan of Felix the cat, it was my favourite cartoon. Then I grow up and I totally forget about Felix. Now I'm 10, after I took some pocket money from my parents I decided, as a good kid, to use those money to take an airplane for Russia and fuck many bitches. But while I was walking on the street I saw a Sega Genesis game on the floor, there was just with a write on it. "FELIX THE CYKA". As I genius I decided to take it and when I came back at home I decided to try it. The game was a normal game, except that in the game over screen...I couldn't believe of what I was seeing. AN HYPER REALISTIC FELIX THE CAT WAS RIPPING OFF IN A HYPER REALISTIC WAY HIS FACE FROM THE HEAD, SHOWING AN HYPER REALISTIC SKULL IN A HYPER REALISTIC POOL OF HYPER REALISTIC BLOOD. What kind of hyper realistic cyka would ever made something like this??? After what happened I wasn't the same. My life is changed....now...it's more....hyper realistic...also the file on the game was called cyka.exe (even that it wasn't a pc game), pretty hyper realistically spooky huh?

fyi: the title screen says (to the best of my knowledge because I'm not fluent in russian I just know a bit) "mario 3, around light. New game. Options" and when he dies the screen says "continues: 3. One more time? yes, no" the countdown screen just says "again," mario 4's subtitle is "cosmic odyssey," the death screen says "mario died, and with him the hope of saving the mushroom kingdom," and the screen with the world blowing up says "if Mario does not stop the conqueror of galaxies with his army, their mushroom kingdom will be doomed"
