The reason Joel laughs when he's being chased in horror scenarios is actually legitimately hotly debated in the world of psychology, and he's an incredible case study. Some people think laughing when nervous is a self soothing act. Not that you're CONSCIOUSLY nervous, but that your basal instincts are telling you that you're being chased, so it starts to activate the fight or flight response. You might not be able to hear it, but sometimes Joel can get a catch in his throat like at around 7:09, which is a telltale sign that despite his laughter, he is subconsciously a bit on edge. He easily recovers, though, because at the same time, the more cognitive and logically inclined parts of his brain are aware that the "chase" doesn't actually pose any threat.
