@@MajoraWaffle I've skimmed through the 3 main tgwtg anniversairy movies and my thoughts are kickassia is incredibly cheesy and dumb but kinda endearing and has a short runtime so it doesn't overstay its welcome, suburban knights starts off pretty funny but then turns into a group of reviewers walking around a dull forest path and its really boring, to bodly flee is date/epic/disaster movie in space, basically any of those awful parody movies from the 2000s but its space

The 4K disc edition of 2001 is, no exaggeration, seriously one of the most incredibly STUNNING home video presentations I have ever seen for *any* movie ever (followed by probably Apocalypse Now 4K and Blade Runner 4K). You know what, I think I'm going to watch it tonight

Lolita, although a creepy and uncomfortable premise, has some terrific acting performances. Great to dive in blind. Though it is entertaining to see when the film cuts from scenic shots of the vast U.S cities and highways, to unmistakably brick British architecture.

Lolita (the book) was meant to be a sort of Satire/Social Commentary on a lot of media that was coming out at the time it was written that very blatantly sexualized minors, so the disturbing premise is very deliberate... not that it's changed Hollywood at all as we can see. Hell it's depressingly relevant in that way.

When I was younger and just getting into film, I always said Clockwork Orange was my favorite Kubrick film. Over a long time, though, I've come to realize the tone and mystery of the Shining is so endlessly fascinating for me. For my personal rankings, I didn't think it made sense to assign letter grades because all are masterpieces, but I separate them by preference/quality like this: Tier 1: The Shining, 2001, A Clockwork Orange Tier 2: Barry Lyndon (just barely below Tier 1) Tier 3: Full Metal Jacket Tier 4: Eyes Wide Shut, Dr. Strangelove Tier 5: Paths of Glory Tier 6: Spartacus Haven't seen the rest, would probably watch The Killing next as it's the only other film he wrote.

According to the information on the book, "Stanley Kubrick Archives", Kubrick's contribution to the screenplay of Lolita was significant, even though he didn't take an official screen credit for it. This actually applies to all of his films except for Spartacus, whose screenplay was completed before Kubrick came to direct the film. Also, during the filming of Spartacus, Kubrick was allowed little to revise the script. This doesn't apply to Lolita or any other of his pictures though.

Great video. What I find truly dispiriting is that Vivian Kubrick's behind-the-scenes documentary of the production of Full Metal Jacket has never seen the light of the day (although snippets have been released over the years, notably in Jon Ronson's documentary "Stanley Kubrick's Boxes", which has a particularly hilarious segment with Kubrick rubbishing his British crew for their incessant tea breaks). If edited and released, it would likely be the greatest behind-the-scenes documentary ever made, and an invaluable document for film students.

I think this was a great list, I appreciate you going into detail and your thoughts on the movies you've seen. I agree with what you said on The Shining, Clockwork Orange, and 2001: A Space Odyssey, those are probably my favorites of what I've seen of Kubrick, unfortunately the only other I've seen is Full Metal Jacket. I'd love to check out Barry Lyndon, period movies especially set in that era fascinate me. But yeah Kubrick definitely was one of a kind and I appreciate his work very much. @@LuckyPunkProd Him and Spielberg kept bouncing it back and forth as it was out of each of their comfort zones. Kubrick wanted it to be his first attempt at a something actually intended for children and general audiences which led to him trying to hand it off to Spielberg, meanwhile Spielberg felt like what he was going for would be better suited to a darker tone and more in line with Kubrick's other work. Ultimately Spielberg took it after his death but stuck to Kubrick's vision pretty strictly, and as such it's a tonally confused mess. Pretty sad story really. It was meant to be his one shot into a new territory, and it's considered the worst thing he's worked on.

whats weird about shelly duvall is she looks kinda out of it in all of the subsequent things she did since the 80s onwards. watch her in interviews, she seems childlike and has this weird blank stare. now contrast that with the documentary that kubricks daughter shot of the filming of the shining, and she's smoking cigarettes and seems like a normal (albeit stressed out) person. i do think it did something to her.
