He's so so so much more than just Morrissey's sidekick, as he too often seems to be portrayed. That coiffed egotistical prick only wishes he could have had as brilliant and dynamic of a recorded catalogue as our man Vini.

Miss seeing Vini on Lapwing Lane. I live on Central Rd, I'd pass Vini so often walking to the shops, so often listening to LC which is along with Eno's Thursday Afternoon a favourite walking album, and pretty much a constant during lockdown. Always wanted to say hello! Hope he's well.

I first saw DC at Futurama 2 in September 1980 when I was just 16. It completely blew my mind and I bought 'Return of...' the very next week. I still play it regularly. Vini is also responsible for reducing me to tears twice at Riverside Studios, Hammersmith in August 1984 when DC premiered 'Without Mercy' on consecutive nights, definitely two of the best concerts I've ever attended. Although I know he's had health issues for years, but it was only by reading the above comments today that I learned the sad news of the strokes he has suffered. Mick, if you speak to Vini, please can you send him my regards, best wishes for the future and eternal and sincere gratitude for his beautiful music and the absolute pleasure he has brought me for over 40 years. I live in hope that I'll get to see him play live again one day soon. x

I discovered him late in the game 86 strictly by accident (Our Lady of the Angels, still one of my fav's) and have religiously bought everything I have been able to find now have all on HD (unfortunately Pacific Bell used and destroyed Otis by using it as an ad musta have been early 90"s when we lived in CA.!) Never was able to go to a show. 6 years older than he and falling apart rapidly. Whenever I do trip on Stropharia Cubensis, I listen to him. I always ck on info on him and finally stumbled on 7/22/23 Guardian article

yes! "technically flawed" has never in 4 decades really come into the equation.... who cares?. ive been listening closely for 30 of those 40 years (im 51 now) and i mean CLOSELY. with full attention ... thousands of re-listens. the technical "flaws" (?) are the reason why. The above piece is no exception. Not at all... It has all been "flawed" since Track 01 Sketch for summer... or weakness and fever.... but that is in no way a problem... not in the least....that is in fact very close to the ENTIRE REASON i have been listening so closely since "The Return..." ... all of this music for all of this time has been striving / sound / sad / happy / gorgeous / painterly .. i know Vini is not one to wallow in praise. But im not about to do that either. I am however saying ... all of this shit. this life long out pouring of pain / beauty / extrordinary magic ... though 'unlistenable' to Vini is infinitely re-listenable to me. and i know i'm not alone. i cant imagine my life without reflecting .walks ... early mornings ... solitude... alll of which has a soundtrack. im not alone. but i don't want to wax about it. i just wanted to say two things here. 1. holy shit. you have a bunch of strokes and you just persevere. you just keep trying and the music is THERE ... it's there. i know the fingers are not following as quickly as your thoughts ... but it all alll all keeps coming through. and 2. it's worth mentioning : vini looks good! stylish! you freaking icon you! anyway. it boils down to two words: thank you. thank you for providing me with 4 decades of the music i personally need! and love! thank you for persevering after strokes (this is close to home for me incidentally) and thank you also for turning me on to Paco Pena
