Thorfinn subconsciously thought of Askeladd as a father figure, he's been loyal to him for 10 years so its impossible for them to not have some sort of messed up attachment. Him slashing Canute wasn't just out of anger but also revenge and grief.

It's so sad for Thorfinn, losing two father figures in his life, even if the second relationship was built on poisonous foundations.

At first, I absolutely HATED Askeladd. But by the end of the season, he became my favorite.

The purpose of Thorfinns arc is to let go of his revenge of Askeladd and let go of his weapon. “Who is your enemy” - Thors It’s kind of funny how you want Thorfinn to kill Askeladd and at the same time, saying you don’t want Askeladd to die. Askeladds character is also very similar to Reiner in AOT.

Askeladd is no doubt best written anime's character. He done worst things that made us hate him, yet we can never hate him.

You guys misunderstood the thing with Askeladd being a king, he said he is the legitimate ruler (as far as blood goes) of Brittannia, that includes Whales, he's not talking about ruling England or replacing Sweyn. He was basically saying to King Sweyn "you just said to my face that you're gonna subdue my kingdom, I'm the descendant of Artorious, you disrespected my people, you're going to die".

Gosh... such an underrated anime! The story, characters, music, animation, voice acting... all top notch! and WIT STUDIO never disappoints!

This was just the beginning of what Vinland Saga is truly about. The entire story is literally the exploration of true love, honor, atonement, purpose, and humanity within a world that tries to prove none of that can exist. It's some of the best storytelling I've ever read and can't wait for season 2

It's interesting. I think we all know that Thorfinn had no future had he did succeed in killing Askeladd. In losing that, he might actually have hope in growth, in change. His story can now finally start, hence the episode is End Of The Prologue

What a departure of an amazing character. Next season is Thorfinn's time to shine, who surprisingly surpassed any and all expectations personally and became one of my all time favorite protagonists in animanga. Excited to see you guys follow his journey.

The one woman second-from-the-right is absolutely correct, revenge through the act of killing Askeladd would have not have helped Thorfinn heal. It's terrible that Askeladd is responsible for Thors's death, but revenge would have just made Thorfinn into what Askeladd became. Askeladd is the perfect foil for Thorfinn, down to the visual symmetry. Askeladd wants revenge on someone for disrespecting his mother (his father) in the same way that Thorfinn wants revenge on someone for killing his father (Askeladd). Askeladd studies under his father for years after the inciting incident that makes him want revenge, just as Thorfinn inadvertently studies under Askeladd and his Vikings for years, both of them waiting for their moments to take revenge. Askeladd SUCCESSFULLY gets revenge by killing his father while he slept, but something about Thorfinn makes him fundamentally different from Askeladd; remember early on, Thorfinn attempts to kill Askeladd in his sleep but ultimately decides against it, and Askeladd (who KNOWS this is how he enacted his own revenge) IS AWAKE AND AWARE OF THIS. I think this is the first point in the story where the wheels start turning for Askeladd that the cycle should stop with Thorfinn.

they showed the head of ears being used as target practice, i dont exactly remember when but i think it was when the priest was explaining love to Canute

tbh knowing a bit about north sea history i was anticipating when Cnut would take his place or rather when Sweyn would relinquish power cuz he only was king of England for about a year... that being said what a way to do it. this season really did an amazing job establishing a feel of what was happening during those times to better understand the mind and thinking of explorers like thorfinn and leif on their expeditions

Canute isn't next in line, exactly, but his brother Harald is all the way in Denmark so he's certainly not going to be leading the army.

This episode is what really made me a fan of this series

I find the ending of this season to be poetic. Thorfinn wanted revenge on Askellad while Askellad himself wanted revenge himself. Thorfinn doesn't realize it, but both of them had their revenge that very day. The difference is that Thorfinn didn't die in the process. Askellad knew of revenge and what it entailed and I don't think he ever wanted Thorfinn to go down that path.

I like the idea of the "king of britain", Arthur handing down the torch to Canute/Knut symbolizing that the king of Britain is not about progenity, as Britain is made out of multiple groups of people who were at once rules and at once serfs, as such the King, Arthur is not belonging to any one group. Askeladd being decendant of the Roman rulers, the Celtic serfs/natives and the new norse lineage fit the bill as the King, but passed to torch down to the new generation to lead the people. (Which he did splendidly, btw)

honestly there is no need to watch dragonball at all anymore. dragonball super is simply a bad anime and sthe easons before are simply outdated and not good compared to current standard. every single dub, whether the original, the english one or the german one, it is really bad. the story is basic af, the animation is obviously outdated and the fights and soundtrack are nothing to remember. the reason why dragonball is so good is because of its impact and history, not because it is a good show. people used to watch dragonball as a child, they grew up with this show and the big 3 only exist thx to dragonball, while most shows like jujutsu kaisen for example wouldnt exist without the big 3. thx to dragonball we live in a good time for anime, but dragonball is not a good show to just watch. if you didnt watch it as a child, dont bother. oh and a little funfact: here in germany, at least in the beginning, vegeta (how tf is this name a spoiler, its literally the only character that matters besides goku, who is the main character) has the same voice as spongebob.

Einar, Gudr and Hild... his best friend (the ship's slave), his future wife (girl in a beach) and the final test (girl climing the mountain), someone whom Thorfinn made him step into the abyss of hate that Askeladd brought him... all while evolving into the greatest manga and anime character out there
