He’s possibly the best I’ve ever seen but he chose to put on a show for the fans. He just used natural ability and head movements for defense and didn’t keep his hands up.

I was good friends with Naseem in the mid-late 90's, I met him through Ronnie Davies and began training with him, INCREDIBLE power and the most unintentionally hilarious man I've ever known! 🙂

He had that amazing natural ability to position himself that Locche possesed. His guard was, at his best, simply that you just couldn't hit him; he didn't need anything more than his shoulders and upper arms to deflect punches aimed at his chin.

He was special. I was lucky enough to watch a lot of his fights live and he was just different to anybody before or since. He burned out early but my word did he burn brightly.

Grew up in the north when he was just getting known. He was the talk of school literally every fight he had. He was polarising, but without a doubt one of the hardest hitters. He was an enigma, and an absolute joy to watch. To see him ruined by those last few fights mentally and spiral like he did was truly sad. Boxing lost a great star when he retired. He was everywhere when he was active. I hope his mental health has recovered.

@@stefanharris659 I see what you mean...from what i no. ...he stopped training consistently when he beat Steve Robinson Naz bcame a champion but He never had a training team That was solely training him Brendan was training other fighters As well as the kids at the ingke gym So lack of training led to him getting caught in many of his fights... Gone was his footwork stopped being mobile... From what I no Brendan didn't expect Naz to beat Kevin Kelley ...they were not on great terms for various reasons Difference in training ideas etc.. Barrea was supposed to fight naz b4 the kevin kelley fight. By 1998 both floyd and pacman were on the scene. In pro boxing 🥊 ...carrear wise you are advised to stay away From hard hitters. I no people that were around nassem as a kid... His power is all natural Same as Mike Tyson Natural power.. Would have had power even without training I watched the naz barrea fight the other day. Naz was not put classes..at all.. That's just a narrative people use. If anything He lost bcause he had a low work rate In the highlight reels u see naz getting hit etc. But he didn't get hit that much in 12 rounds In some rounds barrea didn't even do anything much.. Naseem was moving in the wrong direction. From a southpaw stance. Moving into the right hand. Possibly through lack of training Well fundamentals... Barrea missed a lot of punches Naseem slipped a lot to But was either out of position.. Or just couldn't be bothered to counter... In a rematch he'd have beaten Barrera... He took Marcos best punches and wasnt phased.. Naseem must have one of the best Jaws ever in boxing .. He has never been properly knocked down. Only ever got dropped When he was already off balance Had naseem carried on boxing. He'd have been even more of a legend. We never saw the best of him...

@@stefanharris659I don't think it's ego, the main goal was entertainment, winning without entertaining is not what drives him to box...It also explains that when he got older and couldn't maintain the "entertaining" style due to old age he just quit, instead of adapting and trying to be fundamental because that wouldn't make him unique anymore and thus like any other boxer which means boring. It can be easily misunderstood as ego if you're perspective is imagining you're in their shoes, winning in your case would be the ultimate goal and the goal of many others. But not Naz, guy made a controversial persona worked hard to be creative on his entrances, fight good fighters with lenient terms, no hiding cuz that wouldn't be entertaining.

Everyone I knew growing up in the UK loved the guy despite his arrogance and gamesmanship - it was Eubank that lads were a bit hit and miss about and most were team Benn. I was a fan of both, but more Eubank as even back then I appreciated the boxers that had more strings to their bow than full on bruisers like Nigel. I will add I'm from Yorkshire like Naz, so maybe that played a part in his popularity where I was. I think when it comes to being ultra cocky/mouthy like some fighters are, you've gotta be likable to get away with it. Naz did, as behind the bravado and disrespect for his competition he was still someone that seemed witty, genuine, and honest whereas current fighters like Fury doesn't as he's not very likable, seems disingenuous and doesn't have the talent to back his boasting up. Fury is definitely the most unpopular British champion at any weight I can ever remember, yet he's got a lot in common with Naz. Just shows you need a bit of X factor to go with talent and personality I think.

Met him with my family one month ago in London… got to say god bless him and his family. Love and respect to the prince what a legend… hopefully he remembers me and my parents 😅🤍 he gave me an advice and it was to make sure I do my daily 5 prayers and emphasised about fajr prayer 🤲 🤍 Peace and love to the prince 🤍

some of his entrances were on a Wrestlemania level! hahaha, but on a serious note: I'm not usually a fan of flamboyant and over the top Boxers, but this documentary was awesome! I had heard the name, didn't know much about it him. The way he moved, ducked, and punched in the ring, was insane! Thank you once again, Joe Vincent and Co, for providing another KO documentary because everyone knows, "NOBODY BRINGS IT HOME LIKE JOE VINCENT, NOBODY!"

First heard of Prince Naseem when someone told me that he was the inspiration for one of the fighters in Hajime no Ippo. Saw some highlights and was definitely amazed. Glad to see Joe Vincent put out a video on him.

I love that JV dropped a doc on Prince Nas! People should know he was one of the most exciting and talented fighters of the 90s!!❤🙏 When i was just a boy i disliked Nas because i perceived he was just arrogant. When i got older and started fighting i respected his fierce power, speed, and uncanny ability to move in unorthodox ways. As i grew to understand business i respected how his showboating and carpet riding antics brought multi-million dollar paychecks to the smaller divisions. He gets picked apart for his fight with Marco Barrera but what the majority of people fail to realize is he was coming off an almost 2 year layoff due to repeated and failed hand surgeries that they were keeping out of the press because his stock would plummet if people figured he wasn't a threat any longer. During those 2 years he wasnt sure if he'd be able to heal sufficiently to fight again and as a result of inactivity put on 40+ lbs. The contract to fight Barrera was signed 8 weeks before the fight. Therefore he wqs coming in not fully healed, out of shape, and rusty. If you notice during the ring walk out they talk about how Nas delayed the fight by an hour due to 'issues' with his gloves and needing to change/ switch gloves resulting in officials having to reinspect multiple pairs etc. This wasn't mental warfare. This was the team trying to accommodate the prince's hand injuries. And Marco Antonio Barrera KNEW it and therefore didn't have the fear of the Prince's hands his prior opponents did. The Prince didn't decline because of Marco Antonio it was because his hands were no longer able to deliver the force he could generate.

@@xavierjuno4572 so true....! thinking back to his training footage on the bag I saw many years back blew my mind. The sound of the blow echoed in the training facility. It was fast and seemed effortless. No wind up, no huge muscles required. No leaning in or overcommitting. I had never seen a small fighter strike like that. If you train you know the sonic snap of a proper strike on the heavy bag. That reel of Naz at 5'3 changed my perception of what a smaller fighter could do. It might've been the first time it clicked that speed.....speed kills; how a fighter can use physics to make up for mass by delivering with increased velocity. Seeing/ hearing the crack of 'whap whap whap' that concussed his opponents gray matter was a thing of beauty 😍

Naseem always amazed me, one if the few "with the flow" fighters. You can't teach anyone how to fight like him, one of a kind. Shame his hands and discipline didn't hold up but i imagine it's hard to hold discipline when you are a 2 time world champion in your early twenties.

Hamed was at his very best whenhe was at the Wincobank gym with Brendan Ingle as his coach. When Hamed boxed with that unorthodox Wincobank boxing technique, hands down, loose and relaxed, confident and cocky, arrogant even! The minute that Emanuel Stewart started coaching him, and changed Hamed into a more orthodox boxer.....that's when he declined.

How freaking crazy I was just looking for this video 3 days ago and figured out it wasn't Done and was wishing it would be bc these videos are always super amazingly done and some of the best documentary videos I've seen on you tube, even better than most ESPN shit, great job! I’m genuinely wondering if we’re interlinked because every-time I thin about you making a documentary, it always ends up happening! I was watching Sugar Ray highlights a couple months back and thought to myself “Joseph would make great doc on this guy”, BOOM! Two days later, saw the notification. Same happened for Jones and Buakaw. I was looking at TikTok videos of Naseem YESTERDAY, thinking “Joseph would make one of the best docs ever for this guy” and BOOM! Super excited for this documentary, I know you killed it, you should do Anderson Sliva next.

Been waiting for this one! One of my all time favourites he was a mega star and fought everyone never be anyone like him again! By the time he fought Barrera he was spent and he’s hands was always broke and hurting and he’s speed went he’s record was still unreal!

Marco Antonio Barrera is a solid shout for a Joe Vincent production. His career is absolutely astonishing when you step back and look at it. Amateur record of 104 - 4 with a 56 fight win streak - Five time Mexican national champion. Turned pro at fifteen years old, very active, hit the ranks like a train, he fought and won seven times in both 1990 and 1991 and six times in 92, 93 and 94, all whilst attending university to become a lawyer. Finished his pro career 67 - 7, put in a 43 fight win streak stopping 44 of his opponents along the way. A six time world champion over three divisions, his title fight record is 21 - 4. Once he found that zero fat jab, he was absolutely formidable. Phenominal timing, if ever there was a fighter who could put in his work outside of his opponent's beat.. Footwork? F#$king forget about it. Deft little shifts, often behind some kind of mask, could set his feet for the correct counter almost instantaneously, shot selection, reaction times, boxing IQ just off the god damn scale. Then there's that dog in him. He'd throw it all out of the window and wage absolute war at the slightest whiff of disrespect. If you hit him low, he'd return the favour immediately. And blatantly. If you hit him on the break, he'd get one in. If you hit him after the bell he'd simply continue the fight like there was nobody else in the arena - Absolutely no chill and precisely zero f#@ks given. He makes it onto a lot of top 50 of all time lists, had it not been for a very classy Junior Jones, the second Morales fight, a dodgy 7th round against Marquez and a very early start to his career, it'd be more like top 20/25 as far as I'm concerned. Criminally underappreciated in the boxing world. Strictly for those who know. TAPIA.
