Vintage 1940s Avon Lipstick Shades you can still buy today

Hello lovelies, I have been slowly collecting Vintage Avon catalogs from the 1940s, 1950s, and the 1960s because I love all of the old illustrations and vintage packaging. My oldest Avon catalog dates from 1947 - 1953 and includes all of the lipstick swatches available in that period. Since I have an extensive collection on Avon lipstick, I thought it would be fun to try and match up the colors to see if you can still buy any of these lipstick colors today. I was so surprised because I matched up so many lipsticks from the late 1940s with modern-day colors. I linked them all below, starting with the modern color and the vintage color that matches it. I noticed that there is a wide variety of nail polish colors that I would also love to match. Let me know if you are interested in finding out more colors that are still available.

This was a delight getting to see the vintage catalog. There is something about Avon that evokes a strong feeling of femininity to me. Not only the products, but the era when we had Avon ladies was so special.

Love Avon my Aunts and Mother introduced me to Avon as a little girl. Now 30 it bring back memories of them getting for Church in the morning and putting on their makeup. It made me fall in love with always wearing a red lip.

I loved Avon. I was an Avon rep forty years ago. In your video of perfumes, I saw the blue pitcher with plate that Avon had sold. It bought tears to my eyes because I had it & when I had moved, I lost it. Thanks for the memories.

I wore a cologne from Avon as a young teen around 1958. It had a blue lid and on front it had an undersea look with a shell and pearl I think. It was a round bottle. I've been trying to remember the name. My mom always had Avon lady. At our house in the 50s. The little samples of lipstick. Loved them . in the late 50s I got a lip balm that was in a lipstick tube. Loved it. Pretended it was lipstick.

Laura Jane Atelier, have you ever come across the teensy tiny little lipstick sample tubes that the Avon ladies used to show their customers? My mother was an Avon lady in the 1950s and I remember I loved those little tubes & would play with them after Mom was done with them. They were very tiny, about an inch high and were made of gold colored metal. Lots of memories here! I remember the catalogs, and my heart strings tugged when I saw the little blue retractable lipstick brush! I remember my mother using that during my childhood. I remember that To a Wild Rose bottle! I used to wear that fragrance when I was young teenager.

Hello Laura Jane, 🙋 I love this series on Avon. Such treasured memories of mom & me. Thank God she's still with me at 85 yrs old. I so loved the mini tiny lipstick samples shed get. I saw some lots of them in a lot with other samples online for $55. Too pricey for me. I don't collect Vintage Avon. Now I'm thinking of doing it! Thank you for a dose of happiness. 😘 🌹🌻💞

I love this video. I will be buying some of the colors you showed in red. It was great to see the colors on your arm and how you compared them against the book also. I remember my mom used to buy some shade of red from Avon I can't remember what the name was, but most of the women in the fifties War reddish lipstick. But I do remember and we'll never forget the fragrance that my mother wore some Avon, it was called"To a wild Rose" and even though she is gone now I can still remember that scent. It was such a pretty fragrance but I don't think you can get that fragrance anymore.

There's an Avon archive which is very useful.. unfortunately it would take a while to go through the whole thing but a couple of shades from the 40s include orchid and crusader red. I'm trying to find coral shade from the 40s

Avon was my favorite brand when I wore makeup. Because of dye allergies and religious preference I do not anymore. But always liked the quality of their products. Mom got me started on their products.

Thank you so much for sharing on I have two vintage lipsticks from Avon exactly like the picture of the lipstick tube right above where it says deluxe case the only difference between them is the bottom sticker ones red print the other one is black print but they are both pink tinge.

@@Laurajaneatelier pink tinge it's the 3rd swatch on the swatch page lol. The difference between the two tubes is the bottom sticker one is printed in red the lettering and one is printed in black I'm guessing they were produced in two different years. Thank you.

Hi Laura, I really liked this video, I adore looking at old catalogues so it would be nice for you to swatch against nail varnishes too like you mentioned. I noticed that it seems you could choose what container your lipstick came in, the deluxe gold-ish tube or a general black one, am I correct? Most cosmetics probably contain lead at some level because it occurs naturally in trace amounts in pretty much EVERYTHING around you, the air, the water, the soil, EVERYTHING. As such, all cosmetics that source any of their ingredients from any natural sources are likely to contain very, very trace amounts of it. However, the amount of lead you'd be exposed to through using cosmetics is going to be far, far lower than the amount you're going to encounter naturally in your environment. So while your statement isn't untrue, it also doesn't tell the ENTIRE truth.

If so, have you heard any rumors about lipstick sales falling through the floor because of mandated mask wearing? Wow , the lipstick brush in the catalog you showed is the exact replica I had in the 80s ! I loved it & was forever disappointed with myself for misplacing it . The most convenient & user friendly lipstick brush I’ve ever had & so compact . I purchased mine at the drugstore so it couldn’t have been Avon but for a dupe it was fabulous. Do you know if they are still available?
