right?? people today think you’re wearing a lot of makeup if you have on a bright red lipstick! when i was in freshmen year i would have my face all made up but would usually leave my lips natural… when i wore red lipstick for my vintage looks i had a guy tell me i was wearing a lot of makeup and i said to him my lipstick was the only thing that changed!
@NatalieG427
@NatalieG427 Жыл бұрын
@Vinny Not really sexist. The eye sees what the eye sees. If someone has full lips, that bright red lipstick will come off as being too heavy. Guys in general, don’t like a woman to wear too heavy of a makeup. They like women to look more natural. Not clownish. I say this as someone who just turned 59 & will be married 34 years this year. I met my husband in college.

My grandmother had naturally curly hair and I don't have a single picture of her where her hair looked like any of these styles. She kept it just short enough not to be a ball of fluff, but not an inch longer.😄 She was quite obsessed with brushing though. It'd drive her crazy to see any of us with tangled hair.

Distributing the natural oils that way can really help, with the right tools. Some use boar bristle, or plastic, or wood bristle. I’ve used a disinfected antique brush made out of horse hair which is gentle yet thorough, although I make sure to detangle my hair first with my hands and then a comb. My hair is now thigh-length and on the way to knees. The Victorians also had their brushing rituals and there are so many photos of them with lush hair down to the floor!

@@missmist6144 It’s best described on the blog titled sewhistorically. The entry is titled: Night-Time Hair Routine - Victorian And Edwardian Hair Care. I’d post a link but this site seems to delete it so it’s better to look it up. Also, I’ve completely avoided irons since 2016, and avoided blow dryers for about five years. Once in a while I’ll blow dry, making sure it’s six inches away from my hair and alternating between warm and cool. Shampoo doesn’t matter as long as it doesn’t make hair fall out or damaged. I avoid sulfates most of the time. I oil hair before and after washing, letting it air dry usually. Then I bun it damp so it smoothes out even more. Detangling is done only pre shampoo and then post shapoo only when hair is bone-dry, using hands first because brushes and combs are more likely to rip through knots. I’ve avoided hair salons too because most of them handle hair too roughly and hide their damage with their styling/finishing methods. In the future I might go to a long hair specialist salon just as a treat, but it’s not necessary. I also always sleep with a satin pillowcase, and I wear my hair in a protective updo while doing potentially abrasive activities. Learning different styles and adding accessories makes the growing process more fun. Wishing you the best in reaching your goal! 💖

Actually, it's interesting that they did use to apply mascara on the bottom lashes as well way back in the 20s and 30s when makeup became more widely and sometimes rather dramatically worn, and then they decided it wasn't natural-looking enough when the trends and needs changed in the more minimalist 40s. But that's not to say they never did the bottom lashes in the 40s or 50s, although it was often advised not to--it depended on the individual face.

Colours like black blue or grey can emphasise dark circles when applied in lower lash line when you are not using full coverage concealer combined with corrector. Most mascaras were black back in the day and they choose to wear little light coverage for everyday .

The next day, I NEED jet black straight endless hair with thick bangs The Ring mode ON. And some others, I just wash my face, slather sunscreen and leave my natural hair loose (and this is the day when I' m asked "where did you buy such a looong wig from?!"🤣🤣🤣) It' s a point of no return. Start saving some money for wigs... 😜

When I was first figuring out makeup (mostly on my own), I would pat my face with damp fingers and then pat dry with a towel if I felt like my foundation and powder looked cakey. I was genuinely surprised to see the damp sponge here! I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone else do that.

OMG somebody help I’m stuck watching 50’s themed makeup and self-care videos. This is like my 8th or 9th and I’m nowhere near done.

I noticed a lot of these videos during this time always emphasize enhancing the woman's natural beauty, not disguising it or changing it.

Times has changed. Thankfully, many people of this generation like myself at 30 dress and put on outfits from that time. Even at my young age. Makes my grandmother proud.
