Ok so this is my audio test of the atc 100 speakers. The reason it says test 15 is i am doing a series of audio test videos and posting on KZfaq.
I have recently acquired these and purchased from atc new midrange drive units. I also replaced the tweeters with brand new units but the original manufacturer isnt in business but these are exactly the same and branded as peerless instead of vifa i believe the brands merged.
These were originally purchased in 1990.
I have only just discovered the previous owner to me has wired up the binding posts to the crossover inverted so this is why iam getting this kinda out of phase sound weird no depth of bass sound. Ive just inverted my cables at the amp end and its sounding awesome so will do a knew video with the correct polarity.
What aroused my suspicion of his tampering were these three large toggle switches on the back panel. I asked atc and they were unsure till i showed them the wiring and they said it was not them must be the previous owner.
The toggle in one position actually bypasses the crossover and in the other uses crossover but sadly with wrong polarity. This i will sort out asap. Still unsure why he wired internals inverted polarity.
I am going to purchase some reference speaker cables from SHS Audio -Bergen Norway. These i feel will make a huge difference. In this video the speakers are on cheap speaker cables with core diameter maybe only 2mm.
This video has been recorded using a 3DIO Binaural microphone so please listen via headphones as this is advised for binaural recordings but that's only a recommendation perhaps you have better listening equipment.
