I have four pieces of vintage gear and am the original owner of two of them. A Kenwood KT-6000 Audio lab scope (1970) My first oscilloscope ! That's been recapped and I still use it as a basic V-I diode tester. A SONY TA-2000f (FET) Pre-amp with wooden case. (1975). Re-capped in 2006. Re-built the line-amp stage about two years ago. An ADCOM GFA-7300 5 ch Power Amp purchased used in 1999. (untouched !). I am replacing the ADCOM with my own 6 ch amp -- eventually. The SONY unit is still my main Pre-amp. Such a cool design and plug-in circuit boards. :) I used to own a DYNACO ST-120 and PAT4 pre-amp way back when..but I made the mistake of selling them in the late 70's. Now there are internet shrines for them. You never know. I am currently rebuilding the control board for my original Thornes TD-125 MKII turntable (1973). I have an original SME 3009 tonearm on that one.

Sansui AU-9500, Akai 710 D Cassette Deck, Pioneer TX7500 Tuner, Dual 1229Q, Pioneer RT1011L Deck, and a pair of JBL Century L 100's all brought home from Germany in 1976. The items have never been touched. Wish you were my neighbor. I have not seen equipment like that since my Air Force days. Thanks for sharing your equipment.

He said the right words, repair. My vintage audio spends more time in the shop than my home listening to it. Vintage equipment is a money pit keeping the repair businesses working. Over 2,000 components and anytime any component can fail. When I get my Sansui back I’ll be cutting off the power cord and putting my relic under glass for display.

Great collection of the golden age of stereo 1960-1980. Today everyone uses their iPhones headset to listen to digital music. When young people hear a pair of driven speakers from a nice clean setup, they are amazed. You only showed a couple tuners. I’m spoiled living in the Philadelphia area with some of the best radio stations in the country. There is nothing like a good radio host on a jazz show or an oldies show. Personally I prefer the Technics tuners. Great selectivity and sensitivity, tell us about your stand alone tuner choice.

Thank you for your kind words. The engineering that went into the older audio equipment along with the build quality has allowed this equipment that's 40 -50 years old or more to live on. I've pretty sure much of the equipment will still be here 40 or 50 years more down the road. I have two different tuners that come to mind. First is my Sansui TU-717 that I purchased in 1977, I was a teenager at that point and I still own it today. I installed an outdoor antenna back then and I'd pull in stations clearly in stereo from 100+ miles away. The second is my Marantz 10B just because of the history behind that tuner along with it being a damn fine tuner. No expense was spared by Marantz designing it and it about took the company out for the count.

great collection! I see a Pioneer RT-707 reel to reel. I have an RT-909, original owner since 1981! I still use it frequently, been refurbished, overhauled, service, new tape heads, a lot of loving care. It's built like a tank! Also a Harmon Kardon HK-825 preamp ca. 1984, that I haven't used much in years. Looking for someone to work on my stuff, and I don't really know many peeps in Central NY where I moved a few years ago. I've had great luck with shops in NYC and a guy in Florida for the Pioneer. I'll take a look at your video about finding a tech. You are a true devotee, and bless you for it, an inspiration!

Bob: Maryland USA. I have been into this stuff forever. I am 67. The Music was best between about 1963-1973 -- but the Receivers between about 1977-1981 were tops! I bought a Norwegian Tandberg TR-2045 in 1981. Beautiful wood case. Still have it in bedroom - perfect with one or two minor repairs - listened to it this AM. And bought the big Tandberg TR-2080 in 2014 for $100 (!) dirty but OK. Cleaned up with work almost perfect. Then had a guy like you go over it. Good to go - use it in big den downstairs. Had (earlier) a Harman-Kardon twin power 430 -my first "good" one. Had a good amp - I thought FM tuner fair. Anyway I like the sound (and look) of Tandberg probably the best. But the older Yamaha "20" series good too. Marantz maybe touch overrated but good look and pretty good too. (Like Model 2285b - etc.) Thanks!

Mr. i have no words for such a collection!, just amazing. here comes the cliche: "I just feel like a kid in a candy shop" ...oh well, thats is not enough to describe the situation! Congratulations for your collection and being capable of restore and repair all those beauties there, i feel so much joy when i see a person who loves the audio equipment and at the same time loves the music. right now, i don´t have a vintage stereo amp or pre amps, or any device like yours, (sadly...) but I have a little modern setup right here and combine a little of modern technology, digital audio processing, dacs, pc sound cards, software etc... and several d.i.y. acoustic research and speakers that i built with all the passion for audio that i have. i like to restore too, all the audio speakers and equipment that arrives to my hands! i really wish to build a collection of the size and quality of your collection. thanks for sharing and greetings from a lonely "audiophile" from Colombia.

Even had a Scott in there. I haven't seen one of those since probably the late 80's. Stereos, automobiles, appliances used to have a soul or something different than what choices we have today. I can't put my finger exactly on it, but its something like the digital world has opened so many different avenues, that we don't remember what it was that we lost, that is no longer a part of this digital realm. Life or creation or something doesn't seem to flow the same as it did in the analog world. Digital... pertaining to an electronic system in which information is carried by a DISCONtinuous signal that changes in frequency, amplitude, or polarity and has a FINITE number of levels, rather than a CONTINuous range as in an ANALOG device. Analog ... 1. Something that bears an analogy to something else; something that is comparable: "Titan, Saturn's giant moon ... seems like an analog of the environment of Earth on the eve of life" (David Grindspoon). 2. Biology An organ or structure that is similar in function to one in another kind of organism but is of dissimilar evolutionary origin. 3. Chemistry A structural derivative of a parent compound that often differs from it by a single element. adj.

It's strange but I can name most if not all my equipment from the 70's and 80's but after that it becomes a blur. I had a long-time subscription to the 3 big Audio Magazines from the time and I read every one from cover to cover. Audio was much more enjoyable back then - at least to me.

For me there is no comparison between the new and the old equipment. Don't get me wrong there is some quality gear being made today but it's expensive. You either have junk that you throw away when it breaks or you have to spend a small fortune for quality audio equipment. With the vintage audio equipment all of the Pioneer, Marantz, Sansui gear and many many others you didn't need to buy the top of the line to get a well engineered, quality built product. Sure you got more power, features etc. but time has shown the entry level equipment from the 60's and 70's has held up well. I wonder how much of the modern equipment will still be operating in 40, 50 or more years? I don't think very much of it will be.

Thanks, I appreciate it. Most of the modern audio engineers who work for the high end companies of today respect the old school equipment and the people who designed it. The technology has changed but that doesn't detract from the skill it took to engineer and manufacturer the vintage audio equipment. Don't let other people tell you what you should or should not like. Good luck with your new hobby!

I'm in your court. I have virtually nothing any high end collector wants, but I have learned to enjoy every item based upon what it was intended to do. Compact stereo, stereo console, table radio, portable radio, component and receivers, and speakers. I'd discard many of the items I keep today when I was younger simply because they weren't able to shake the house. Everything had it's purpose. Enjoy yourself and puzzling and learning. If your ears say it sounds good and you enjoy it then you're set.

@vintageaudioaddict
@vintageaudioaddict 4 жыл бұрын
I'm just a hobbyist who repairs his own equipment. I don't work on other peoples equipment but let me try to help. I have never worked on a 1060 but I believe they use 2SC458 transistors on some of the boards which are known to go noisy. They can cause issues like you are having. I know you recapped it 20 years ago but those capacitors are getting to the age where they can cause problems. Figuring out if the pop is from both channels or one will help you troubleshoot the issue. Also your power switch could be arching if the issue is within the chassis and not coming from the speakers.
