I install a secondary 6V positive ground fuel pump in my 1938 Chrysler. I show you how I did the installation and test it.

Appreciate the video. I won’t tell you the dumb mistakes I have made but watching this video will help me add an electric fuel pump to my old 67. It takes about 30 seconds to start if it sits more than a day.

Thanks for the video! I installed the exact same pump just before I put her away for the winter. When I brought her back out a few weeks ago she started right up after 15 seconds or so of prime. I feel a lot better knowing I installed it the same way you did.

My 35 Dodge vapor locked on me Sunday a guy stopped and had some starting fluid sprayed it in the carb started right up. So now I keep a can of starting fluid in my car. Someday I'll get around to installing a electric fuel pump. Love your videos. Thank you.

Careful with starting fluid. You can break piston rings. I would not use it. If you truly had vapor lock in a fuel line, I can’t see how using starting fluid would address vapor lock. Any explanation? Thx.

Nice tutorial. Thanks for keeping the mistakes in. We've all done it. I neglected to check continuity on an aftermarket key switch for a terminal that should have been ground for a door buzzer. It wasn't... fried the switch and a mess of wires to boot.

Great information as I get ready to put an electric fuel pump on my '41 Buick Super ... although it's 6V neg ground , the overall process should be very similar ... my only concern watching your clip was seeing you work under your car apparently with no jack stands ... life's just to short for risks like that ... Thanks again.

Hi keith...don't feel bad I bought 5 of those pumps at one time to do the same as you on a couple cars and then to have extras. Long story short my mechanical pump died so it accelerated my install of one and then all 5 pumps...none worked to get me from street to my driveway. Import parts suck!

I put in a electric (6v Pos) pump in my '53 dodge pickup on day one. Runs off the keyed ignition. Never looked back. Installed it on the driver rail between the tank and mechanical.

Hey I have an odd question, I just bought a 51 Chrysler Windsor Deluxe a week ago. The steering wheel was taking apart, do you have, or can you make/type out how the horn mechanism is put together on them? All I have is a bag of parts and a good luck note! I know the horns work on their own, gave them -bat and they work, the person I bought the car off of took it apart because the wire was grounding out and sparking in the wheel, I have fixed the broken insulation issue with it, but for the love of god I cant figure out all these shims/plates/springs order to put it back together. This is my first vintage Mopar car, so forgive my ignorance! Thanks in advance! Btw, I have learned so much about these 6v pos ground cars from you! I am a master cert auto tech with 10 years in the field, when I first got this car I was like a new born pup working on it! Even connected the battery backwards and drove it around town for an hour like that, thank god it didn't hurt anything.

thanks for the video, it was a great help for me. I do have what may seem like a dumb question. Can the electric fuel pump be turned off after the engine starts and just use the mechanical fuel pump? I guess what I'm asking is, can the electric fuel pump be used as a back up only?

I put an electric fuel pump on my '38 Plymouth. It works well, but it must be energized when driving. If not, the problem is, ironically, similar to vapor lock. The carburetor starves for fuel when the engine is working hard. The mechanical pump, which is in good condition, can't pull enough fuel through the non-energized electric pump.
@keithsgarage5831
@keithsgarage5831 Жыл бұрын
I’m not having that problem. I just drove on the highway for 30 mims. Also up a long steep hill. Full throttle. Electric pump is not energized. My mechanical pump is not having any problem meeting engine fuel demands.

@@keithsgarage5831 I had the same issue with two cars, my Plymouth and my 1970 Oldsmobile...maybe I'm just unlucky, or have electric pumps with high flow resistance.

Getting ready to do this to my fj55 Landcruiser. What pump did you use that failed? The pump you showed at the beginning looks different than the pump you mounted. Trying not to install twice. Thanks for any info.

I did the same job on my 50 Dodge, I used a momentary contact push button to power it. What is the brand of tool you used on the brake lines, looks like a good tool.
