Those 67 CTS alnico speakers are amazing. I have 2 in my Bassman.

I have a 73 silverface that I dragged around for 10 years gigging for four hours a night. You could sink the thing to the bottom of a lake, take it out and dry it off and it would work like it just rolled of the line.

This is where a variac comes into play, to bring it up to power slowly, so it won't blow, out caps and resistors that have been sitting for such a long time.

My 5e9 tremolux had a rusty Jensen p12 speaker in it. It was surface rust and I was able to sand the rust off and reveal the green paint under it, then used polish to protect the paint and give it some shine.

Awesome, I actually passed on buying this amp at that auction due to the crazy water damage on it. FWIW it was at the Guy Rose auction. I bid 50 and bowed out lmfao!!!

My 65 super was found in a barn covered in chicken sh#t. The 2 prong power cable used to shock me all the time when I was a teenager. It has since been completely disassembled and inspected. Totally amazing now. Great find man. Such a nice amp.

Matthew your expression is priceless, I was not expecting to hear any tones out of this thing, considering alot of it’s rusted up and the reverb knob produced no sound. I’m surprised that considering how beat up this thing is and hasn’t been used in quite sometime. For it to breathe life and tone again giving it’s current state is amazing and it shows you the craftsmanship and the build that Fender put into their amp.. I swear they are the AK’s of the amps.. beat up and cosmetically rusted up and it still works. Some new preamp tubes, warehouse or celestion speakers, capacitors, and a thorough cosmetic clean up and it’s good to go.

My 69 Bandmaster Reverb still has many of the original RCA tubes! Congrats on the great find!

I've been really lucky with finds over the years. I was doing a gig in a dingy bar in Africa in the 80's once and broke a string and didn't have a replacement. The bartender says, 'I think we have a guitar behind the old piano', Its been there for years'. He pulls out a 62 Jaguar - it had been there for literally 20 years untouched. Then about 3 years later got a call from an uncle who said he had been given an amp to repair but the guy never came back - 72 Fender Bassman. I also once found a Jazzmaster in it's case that somebody has accidentally reversed a VW beetle over in the 70's in a friends garage. He also had an AC30 that had been taken out of its cabinet and put in a tomato crate. Just lucky I guess and all these finds were in Africa.

Transformer rust acts as a effective shielding leave it or lightly sand with fine sandpaper not to remove rust just to smooth it. Then put a couple coats of clear shellac.shellac is non conductive so it works great and it will look almost new and ward off eddy currents.dont oil.there is a piece of paper between each of the metal plates.i restore these for a hobby.also the speaker paper is probably toast.new speakers are always better because of paper rot.they may sound okay but won't take the volume.take apart cabinet and clean and clear shellac the inside pine and baffle.the baffle is porous the shellac soaks into it and makes it stronger.and will stop the wood from further break down.its aged enough past that is rot.and it looks great.keep it in house I would advise you on what needs done and how to do it. Also vintage tubes are cool but trouble shooting is better with new tubes then when amp is sorted out.put vintage tubes in one at a time.or have them tested.good.

Found my ‘64 Strat’ stored (no case) in an old garage ... the owner’s kids used it as a bat occasionally to play bat and ball in the garden! The guy was a Clapton fan, and wanted a modern black Strat in exchange for his old Fiesta Red ‘64 ... how could I refuse😃?

Amazing! Those things are tanks and built to last. Got a silverface from '79 and a reissue from the 2000's somewhere.

I remember the local TV shop had a tube tester and I use to get discarded school PA amps, check/test/replace the tubes and sell the amps to local starter bands in the 70s.

They built those things really well back in the day.

You'll love the "balcony" sound. Oh! Nostalgic.

I had a 1963 super reverb, I got new when I lived in Germany, I loved it,I used it until 86 and then went to Marshall, but I wished I would have never gotten rid of it, the thing never let me down I used it on the road 5 nights a week until I got the Marshall

Beautiful amp and an incredible find. Years ago I bought a 65 Pro Reverb from a pawn shop super cheap because it had no sound when I tested it. The store owner (a major grouch to everyone) said it worked when he took it in because his son swapped the speakers out to use in his amp. I looked in the back and the speakers were not connected and offered him $75 out the door. He balked but eventually gave in, probably because he had several people at the counter and I kept telling him that a dead amp (OT could have been smoked ) wasn't worth much. He grumbled and said pay him and leave. Because of his caustic attitude I had no problem handing him $75 for a fine amp. I took it home and was playing it 5 minutes later. I still have it. Sometimes you get lucky. With that amp I'd replace the filter caps and hose down the pots with some contact cleaner and let'r rip. She sounds like pure gold.

Man, I had a few things like this when I first started playing in 1973. My very first amp I had for playing in a band was a late 60's Bassman head, reworked by our local New Bern NC music store to 100 watts. I actually found a few Fender Amps in garbage piles by the street when I was a kid. I found a Fender Champ and a blue lit twin amp. Both needed work but I made money on them, not very much considering how much they're worth today. This was great, thanks for taking us along. And, you're a good player, I dig your style.

I picked up a 1971 NMV Silverface twin reverb for 425 in like 2005 in a little mom and pop shop. replaced the speakers with Weber Cali 12's retubec with NOS and ANOS tubes . almost new rca 7581A power tubes
