Let me add to the comments below and maybe above. Please dont ever add music to your videos. The "working sounds" like sanding and scraping, are a musical background all on their own.

Great job, I really liked how you repaired and restored the old oak pieces. There is something that very few woodworkers seem to do and that is also pay some attention to the old hardware! Clean up the old screws, washers and wing nuts by simply soaking them in Evaporust or something and get rid of the corrosion. Maybe treat them for some rust prevention. File down lightly damaged screw heads if needed and so on. That sort of thing.

Also, it is good to clean up the underside of a piece. This one looked a bit messy when putting the legs back together. Kind of like just pulling your pants up after going #2 and not doing the paperwork.

I've seen many videos on stripping (wood lol) but for some reason your video made things click more. Before I was always left with questions and some confusion even though they went into great detail but this video left me with no questions and you kept it straight forward and just did it and told us how you did it. Simple. Thank you 👌

I also scavenge for furniture to give a new life to. Many of mine are what I call my 'orphan chairs' but are usually not made of walnut or oak so they get done with colored coating usually wax or chalk. I am actively learning tips from your videos before I tackle a project on a mid century desk with a faded, almost gone finish. I'm trying to glean from your videos if I can go over what is there, or if I have to strip it. There are no scratches, but possibly someone was aggressive with Restore-a-finish. I'll keep watching!

Hi! I really do like your videos but in this one, I don't hear you mention rinsing/washing off the oxalic acid once it's dried, which I understand is really important. Here is Spain it's a controlled substance. A friend uses it to control infection in bees, but he won't let me have any acid. Thanks a bunch! Keep up the good work!

That table is gorgeous! I need advice from you or anyone who can help, please. I'm working on a customer's piano. For the past few years her relative allowed his birds free range on this piano. We've washed it with Mr. Clean, but the odor remains. I can't bring the bench or kick board in the house. They're on the back porch for now. They smell so bad. Can you suggest anything? I had the bench filled with baking soda for a week. It didn't help at all. How deep can that odor go?
@DashnerDesignRestoration
@DashnerDesignRestoration 3 жыл бұрын
I've found odor removal to be one of the toughest jobs. I've tried most of the home remedies such as putting it in the sun or using baking soda or coffee grounds but most of the time the only solution is to remove the finish and apply a new finish. Or, you could try putting a new finish over the existing one. That might seal in the odor.

Thank-you, that was so satisfying to watch. Also I love the way the oxalic acid took the stains out. Do you have to neutralise the acid afterwards? I think solid wood antique furniture is the best. I just bought a solid imbuia writing desk and it's been chalk painted. I'm definitely going to strip it and restore it to its former glory!
