i picked up a GI Joe looking figure, but in Mego 8" size and style...today at a flea market for $5. the shop owner knew nothing about it, just that it came in with a lot of toys somehow.

Perhaps the shrunken G.I. Joe head figure is (obscure reference in 3... 2... 1...) Chuck Cunningham from the Happy Days line. Overseas Exclusive.

Ultraman Leo premiered in 1974, and I don't think it was incredibly popular as Ultra shows go - nothing like Taro before it anyway. So the figure was likely only produced that year. That lines up with Kamen Rider X which was also a '74 show.

There is an American designed doll that only sold for only one year in the States in 1972, but in Japan and in the Far East it had a large following. In fact it was brought back. The Blythe doll, designed by Marvin Glass & Associates and sold by Kenner. Then later licensed by Takara. Japan does push toy design and I definitely like Japan's take on the Mego figures.

My guess is that “Joe” figure was an attempt at a Steve Austin figure but I’m not sure the timeline is right. That was my first thought.

That Joe head is just incredible, what a find! I for sure think you are onto something with where you think hes from, at least in the shots that I can see their necks look really similar too me, not that that is much too go on but it makes me assume they were done by the same sculptor.

Without knowing the Emmy Chan dolls name, Mrs. Emma Peel immediately came to mind, but they all wanted to be Mrs. Peel back then. Is the Ultraman Leo friend supposed to be Richie from HAPPY DAYS?

the og gijoes had painted hair. i wish you would of shown the old gijoe with the mego side by side as the viewers seen the gijoe with the fuzzy head. but the original gijoe is exactly that head. scaled down without the scar. but i have 2 of the gijoes with painted hair just like this mego head.

I always find it amusing that Mego was able to merge DC and Marvel in the 1970s but the cinema universe still can't make it happen

Looks like the clothes of the mini Joe fig are derivations of the Peter Parker and Clark Kent figures. Hmm.

The joe head figure seems like someone's attempt at a custom secret identity figure for the clothes and one off head.

Maybe they were going for a generic Happy Days character judging by the preppy clothes, hair, and the era it was released.

This isn't going to help you answer your questions, but just letting you know that the "-chan" in "Emi-chan" is similar to the "-san" in "Daniel-san", and not her last name or anything like that.
