Vintage Sears Roebuck Co Rail Road Cuckoo Clock

Not too sure of the age of this clock, but I am thinking around 1923. The older Rail Road clocks have a heavier weight for their clock. This was sold by Sears, but made in Germany for Sears. I found this movement very clean and just oiled the movement. The clock box was damaged and I did use some Black walnut wood to repair it. I am not sure that the wood on this box was Black Walnut. Here I do most of my work on clocks. Mainly cuckoo clocks, yet I am always looking for the unusual and eye catching clocks. Some of the clocks I get into are ones that need saved from the dump. They fell off the wall from not securing the clock to the wall using the stud behind the sheetrock. Some of the clocks were laid to rest out in the garage or barn and I except the challange of getting them back together again.
A well loved clock at one time is one that has a lot of wear and you find old bushings that might need to be replaced.

I always try to save as many as I can from the landfill. Even the ones I buy for parts, I just don't have the heart yet to not fix the clock. Thanks so much for watching. Chris Dye

No matter how new or how old the Rail Road clock is, they are a very different type of Cuckoo Clock and I love them all. Thanks for sharing as well and watching the video Gene Doerr

That clock looks great Mike! Nice work repairing the broken case. I have read that Lindenwood (Basswood) is usually used for cuckoo clock cases and trim.

Of course you know that Sears didnt make any cuckoo clocks. They bought and sold them. Now with that cut out at the bottom of the "W" in the lyre movement I have seen that a lot but cant pin point who made that design. Always a nice thing when you can save money on a clock. As always Mike you did a great job fixing this clock up. Love what you did to the topper and repairing all broken parts. Thanks for the shout out at the end. May God bless you and yours.

You are so right, but we have to remember that we have to start somewhere to determine an age and where the clock might have came from. At the most part, we have adds on some of the clocks to help determine that and sometimes paten numbers. Thanks so much for the comment and you have a great weekend Mark. God Bless.

You said the car oil was used on clocks. Hmmm that clock was made before cars. So what came first. lol the car or the clock? Just think. The journey the clock had to have made back in the 1800's. From the factory that was powered by steam and lit by wail oil lamps. it was shipped on horse drawn carts to a tall ship that sailed the sea To the dock in Chicago Then by train to Sears Roebuck's warehouse for shipment to the end location. The buyer would have had to take his team of horses into town to pick up the clock and garden seeds. The seeds grew in the garden all summer as the clock ticked away. In the fall the supper was made from the garden crop and eaten as the clock ticked away. Then one day came a knock at the door. (Pay one dollar now to see the rest of the story.)
