I just got one of these beauties from a gentleman in my neighborhood who restores machines. She is gorgeous and purrs like a kitten. So excited to own this machine and glad to have found this video as he did not have a manual.

Found my machine in a thrift shore for $20, it works perfectly. Thanks for the help threading the machine correctly, I was doing it wrong. Otherwise for doing repairs it’s great. Great machine for and older guy that doesn’t mind doing thing for himself. 🤗

Great intro video...thank you! I just scored a like-new one of these from a thrift store for $10 and had it looked over by a repairman. Love how these are all made of metal...great quality! Hope you make some more videos of using more of the features of this machine.

Thank you! Great video. I've had this machine for over 25 years and didn't know about the top round metal part that changes the foot pressure and have never fully understood the teeth up and down buttons. Love this old machine of metal.

This is the exact first sewing machine I had when I was a teenager in the first years of the 80's. The seller, if he or she told You that it was from the 50's, I think he or she guess. Unless is a Singer machine, is very dificult to find the manufacturing year of other brands.We had this dressmaker sewing machine model on a lay-a-way for almost a year, from early 1983 to late 1983 when we completed the payments and could it be sent to our home. It was brand new, and one of the most recent models if not the most recent those days, for selling them at almost $400, $389.95 to be exact. If we put it on lay-a-way in early 1983, it could mean the manufacturing was completed sometime in 1982 or in the last months of 1981, which I doubt. Anyway, it's still a vintage sewing machine already. From what I read, from 20 years to 39 years of being manufacturered (in working conditions or not) they are considered RETRO sewing machines, from 40 years to 99 years of being manufactured are under the VINTAGE category, and from 100 years of being manufactured and over are considered an ANTIQUE. So now the machines we considered "ANTIQUES" are under the RETRO or VINTAGE category, only after 100 years they are ANTIQUES. That means that the new model you bought today You are not going to have enough life to see it as an antique, because very few people reach the 100 years plus, adding the age You had when You bought it. Very interesting Your videos about how to thread and oil the Retro, Vintage and antique sewing machines, no matter the manufacturing year.

I just picked up a Dressmaker 7000 for free. The S-2402 looks very similar. Looks like doesn't require the cams to operate, so that's a good thing to observe. Wondering if the TOYOTA ATLANTIS, WHITE MODEL 162 and DRESSMAKER 7000 as well as some others might use the same cams? Mine didn't come with those, any accessories and a manual. Do you have the link for the 7000 or this model to download by chance? I'd like both actually. Looks like this will be nice for thicker materials like leather, canvas and maybe some marine awning material. Thanks again for sharing!

Hi I have a vintage dressmaker sewing machine model 5742. And I am having a hard time setting it right. For some reason the bottom stitch is very loose. Where do I adjust it
@AniaProts2 жыл бұрын
You mean your having looping on the bottom? So if you have loops there your top needs to be tightened not your bottom.

Need help, my bobbin thread and top thread is not making a stitch, after watching your video I made sure the top thread was correctly threaded, just not sure why it isn't working.

HI, did you maybe rotate the needle backwards? that could do it. Also are you using the correct needles? Standard domestic needles are find. But if you use an overlock needle might be too short.

Amateur seamstress here😬 I have this machine in a ‘table cabinet’ (from my grandma) that has a knee presser instead of a foot pedal. I noticed that you were trying to go slowly and it made a similar sound to mine when I try to go slowly too (with the knee pressure) , and I end up making a rats nest of thread in the bobbin. Any ideas why this could be happening or what I’m doing wrong?? If you could advise me, I may avoid having to take it in to be serviced, I hope.Thanks a million!!
@AniaProts2 жыл бұрын
First things first… make sure it’s oiled, especially where the hook basket is and that there isn’t any thread in there. It should rotate as smooth as butter. Second make sure your not using an old needle. Test on a piece of cotton, and work out your tension. Nests are most often the result of incorrect tension settings. Set the length to the longest and start with a piece of cotton and make sure that your stitches are tight on both sides. If it’s loose on the bottom tighten the top, loose on top tighten the bottom. When the motor is making that noise it just means that it’s lacking the power to enter whatever your sewing. Possibly it’s too thick or the machine isn’t piled, or the spool isnt unrolling smoothly or the needle is just too dull. Could be many things but my guess would be the needle and tension
@trishamathews9322 жыл бұрын
On closer inspection, when I turn the side wheel to get the bobbin to connect threads with the needle thread, the needle gets stuck down there. When I take the bobbin out, then the needle can freely move…..so, something must be out of line with the bobbin and bobbin holder:-( (Hope that makes sense….I really don’t know much of the correct terminology.)
@AniaProts2 жыл бұрын
Yes your on the right track. If you take out the bobbin but pop an empty bobbin case is is it doing the same thing?

There are two buttons on the front at bottom that says “up-down”, those are feed dogs, they feed the fabric thru. Make sure the feed dogs are “up”. Also make sure stitch length is around 3.
