Hi I have a brother Opus 831. Am trying to do a straight stitch but the needle seems to want to go side to side. Can you please tell me how to change this? My grand mother bought this for me in the ‘70’s. I have used it many years but have recently pulled it out and started with this stitch. Thanking you in advance Maria

Is there a diagram or a video showing how to reassemble the tension knob. I took it apart and there was an extra piece in there that I’m not familiar with so now I can’t figure how to put it back. Thanks

This is the 1st demo I have looked at, and I would like you to know I found this to be more than helpful, THANK YOU. Im about to embark into a world that I know nothing about because I'm moving interstate with my partner, whom does leather work. I have had my things in storage and have old singer machine i have packed and forgottenabout. I am in the process of moving so now thanks to you, I've got my mojo back . Thank you. You should be teaching full time even when you are just tinkering

The pedal I am working on has the identical variable resistor coils. The contacts were dirty. Sanded them a little, and cleaned up with simple green. Runs like crazy now. I'm pretty mechanically inclined, but to be honest- it didn't occur to me that the case would just snap apart. I was overthinking it. The pedal has seen so much use that the little brass rivets that hold the coils to the ceramic frame have worn off level with the coil retainers. I'll have to remedy that in the future. Before working on this unit- it was either full blast or off. Now I have a couple of intermediate speeds. Connecting that tricky link is also easier if you lay the pedal box flat. Thanks for posting this. Sometimes just seeing someone else tearing into a project is just what is required to get the brain in gear.

All of the knob have a set screw. You can loosen it and turn the dial to line up the indicator. Someone likely didn't realize it has a lock and turned the knob too hard putting it out of alignment.

They have copied mine too, but again - badly. The first I found out about it was when a regular customer who had foolishly ordered a pair of Chinese copy crap got in touch to tell me how shoddy their manufacture was, plus their sizing was two or three sizes smaller in reality than stated in their ad. Your fab comparison video outlines the point perfectly!

I’ve had this Kenmore since it was brand new waaaaaaay back in the ‘70’s! It’s still going strong! Keeping it clean, and free of dust accumulation inside, has meant I’ve only needed it maintenance-serviced 6 times in all the years since. Great machine!

This is the exact first sewing machine I had when I was a teenager in the first years of the 80's. The seller, if he or she told You that it was from the 50's, I think he or she guess. Unless is a Singer machine, is very dificult to find the manufacturing year of other brands. We had this dressmaker sewing machine model on a lay-a-way for almost a year, from early 1983 to late 1983 when we completed the payments and could it be sent to our home. It was brand new, and one of the most recent models if not the most recent those days, for selling them at almost $400, $389.95 to be exact. If we put it on lay-a-way in early 1983, it could mean the manufacturing was completed sometime in 1982 or in the last months of 1981, which I doubt. Anyway, it's still a vintage sewing machine already. From what I read, from 20 years to 39 years of being manufacturered (in working conditions or not) they are considered RETRO sewing machines, from 40 years to 99 years of being manufactured are under the VINTAGE category, and from 100 years of being manufactured and over are considered an ANTIQUE. So now the machines we considered "ANTIQUES" are under the RETRO or VINTAGE category, only after 100 years they are ANTIQUES. That means that the new model you bought today You are not going to have enough life to see it as an antique, because very few people reach the 100 years plus, adding the age You had when You bought it. Very interesting Your videos about how to thread and oil the Retro, Vintage and antique sewing machines, no matter the manufacturing year.
