Vintage Shell Gas pump Restoration

Restoring an old Swedish gaspump from the mid 50's.
It's originally made by a Swedish company called Ljungmans and the model is called Star 76.
I found this next to an old barn with some other old cool stuff and instantly felt that i want to make it look like new again.
I'm started with disassembly and removing all the old paint.
ones that was done i cleaned the chassis and gave it new gauge boards and painted the arrows.
All panels got new paint and of course new Shell logos, glass and rubber strips.
The fuel pistol had a cool leather sleeve that was in a very bad condition and in the need of replacement.
I found a local guy in my town that made an exact copy and it turned out really well.

Beautiful Restoration! Perfect conversation piece for the home bar or the shop. Where did you find the replacement dial faces for the fuel "clock"? You might try finding a decent locksmith who could make you a key for the lock. Have you electrically disconnected the pump motor as well?

Is there any connection between this pump and modern companies making gas pumps? I work on modern gas pumps, and am curious about the history of the companies. They have changed names and consolidated over the years. I don't recognize the meter or pump unit, so that makes me think it is unrelated to the companies that are still in business?

@@fredygump5578 I am not sure, but from what i know their first large serie of pumps where ordered by Texaco, as far as i know primary for the Scandinavian market in the mid 1920s, much later in the year 1970, the company where bought by Dresser Industries seated in Dallas. As far as i know the pumps for the Scandinavian market where primary stationed in Sweden and Norway and possibly northern Denmark, but they had some export to South America and parts of Africa, etc. but i am not sure exactly which type of products where sold there, thay also made a lot of various equipment for storage and handeling engine oil in smaller workshops, gas stations, etc.

This is one reason I took Auto Body repair to restore things back to like new, careful sanding old paint it could be lead paint.

Painted a few gas pumps and never used spray can primer, only use high build urethane primer, much better

Just too too good. An excellently done job. I am from Bangalore India and as a kid of 6-7y old in the early 1960s I remember this kind of petrol dispenser at the CALTEX petrol pump. Where are you from as I see the dispensed is calibrated in liters, and cannot be the US.

I service gas pumps, and I'm wondering if there is a connection between the company that made this pump and the companies making pumps today? Like Gilbarco, Tolkheim, Gasboy, Wayne, Bennet, etc. I recognize what the internal parts are, but I don't think I've seen anything quite like this one. It is a little older than what I am used to, although I do occasionally find pumps from the 50's and 60's that are still being used!

Als Technik nicht bloß funktional, sondern zugleich auch wirklich schön war ! Gerade die Formen und die Farbgebung der 50 er und auch noch der 60er Jahre des vergangenen Jahrhunderts zeigen oftmals eine fast traumhafte Verbindung von Technik, Ästhetik, Farbe und Lebensgefühl. Ausgezeichnete Arbeit, gerade diese Zapfsäule ist ein tolles Beispiel - da könnte eventuell noch mehr von kommen ?

My opinion friend , but strange that you decided to paint side panels Red ! When the whole pump was in yellow Just curious as to why ! Great beautiful work . Do you intend on keeping the ol gas pump for Nostalgia. 1950s , a Californian native back then the 50s were really something Cars , fashion , AND ! Rock and Roll .

A great project and actually a nice video...but I got really bored at some points and I fast-forwarded. I don't think anyone has to look at how to screw in all 4 lamps, one is probably enough ;-) What was too detailed in some places was too fast in others. Nevertheless thumbs up and of course a subscription in the hope that there will be more :-)

Well thats something old. Definitely from what's out if the 1950s. It's understandable that we nowadays use electric cars. Am I also trying to tell you that the new teen rock groups don't use tambourines, saxophones, or harmonicas at all?
