Old mechanic trick, clean out the thread holes for the four mountain studs with thinners, dry them with rag on a screwdriver. Next, put "blue tread-lock" by lock-tight, on the studs course ends, tighten them with mole grips, if you don't have a stud remover. That is the correct way to fit studs that stay there! Oil the other ends and use your spring washers which is correct. Have a nice day. P/S: the P3 engine is the best one to have.

Great vid Dan ,I amazed at how much Fergusson and MF made items work just by using their three point lift system ,considering it all came from one oil pump . They certainly use their grey matter to do amazing ways to make it easy for their farmers

Much more of an art to hitchin up to a trailer then than there is now with push back hitches 💪 notice that hitch a fairly early one with the button as opposed to the right angled lever👍👍

Yes, the TE 20 ones had the button, the lever type came out with the 35.

Hi Dan, you asked for information regarding the plate on the trailer: The white reflective triangle on the back is a standard military specification marker to satisfy the legal requirements of the day. These were also fitted to most other MOD trailers, most commonly the 3/4 ton Sankey trailers towed by Landrovers. The cutout around the reflective plate would indicate only one was fitted, but they were normally fitted in pairs. Modern trailer reflectors are now just red plastic, but these are an earlier version, and were made by BLUEMELS. The PSA plate on the back would indicate that the trailer was operated by the The Property Services Agency (PSA), an MOD agency in existence from 1972 to 1993. Its role was to “provide, manage, maintain, and furnish the property used by the government, including defence establishments, offices, courts, research laboratories, training centres and land”. Most garrisons, for example Warminster, Larkhill, Bulford, etc. would have their own PSA maintenance teams. The 9/10004 would probably identify the area and section where your trailer was used. I’ll try and find out for you. Now the plate on the side. It was difficult to see the plate clearly in the video, but I got most of it. TRAILER, TIPPER, 3 TON, 2 WH. (Wheeled), FERGUSON CONT No WV/4816/FER36 - is the MOD contract number that was used to procure a batch of these trailers from Ferguson, to a specification in the contract. As you said, industrial with road legal lighting, but there could have also been some other non-standard items and tools required by the contract. 02 ET 35? - is the Vehicle Registration Number for the trailer (Now In military terms called an ERM = Equipment Registration Mark). Although in civil use in the U.K., a trailer normally adopts the same number as its towing vehicle, but all military vehicles, trailers and plant were issued their own number for identification purposes. The trailer would have had its own record book for services and inspections. Can’t see clearly, but on the plate you should also see an Asset number, which is a NATO devised numbering system to identify any military asset, and a CES number, which is for the Complete Equipment Schedule, which would provide a list of all items fitted as part of the trailer and any loose ancillary items. There would have been other documents for the trailer, for example, illustrated parts list and engineering instructions for repair and modifications. If you could post a decent photo of the plate, Dan, I’ll try and give you some more information. One last thing, I believe also originally fitted to the industrial trailer would have been a pair of mudguards fitted behind the wheels, but as you would know, they don’t stay on long when operating in mud! Hope this helps, Dan. Please keep making the videos as I find them very informative. I’m looking to buy a tractor for hobby tinkering, and want to have a bash at some ploughing. I used to drive a Ford 5000 on a Holstein Friesian dairy farm many, many years ago, and my Dad drove a Grey Fergie TVO and then a Massey Ferguson 65. I keep thinking about getting a 65, but keep reading mixed reports about them. Have you had any experience with the 65? Best regards, Ian

Hi Ian, this is the best comment I've ever had on a video, thanks very much! If you email me on cowfarmerdan@gmail.com I'll get a better photo for you. You won't go wrong with an MF 65. The mark 2 is more common, the engines are brilliant, dry brakes aren't the best but perfectly serviceable. Some people say the clutch pedal is a bit high as it pivots at the rear, but that's personal preference really.

Dan, enjoyed this one, brought back memories of using the pick up hitch on the 135MP I used to own, the hitch was fitted so I borrowed a T Bar and the stays and it woked a treat hauling spoil from the digging out of my driveway.

A tillage farmer I worked for bought a Massey 165 new in 1968,it had a T bar hitch,I think it would have been the last Massey to use that type of hitch,he bought massey 178 in 1969,it had the hitch with 2 vertical bars,then came the 188 with the chains.He bought his first new 188 in 1971 it cost £1750,I can still remember the reg no,SAI 178,(Ireland).

Interesting. Good to see how you mounted the actual hitch part, but, it would have been informative for a close up of the installation of the three point linkage and connecting to the trailer. I could not work out how the plate stopping the trailer falling off opened up to allow the trailer to connect.. I’ve got a rough idea how it works but a close up would have been better.

Well I'll be! I didn't realise that it was a proper puh on the Fergys! I know there are some bars kicking around for the tvo that's at work but I think there stabiliser bars (slotted) and I didn't know about the industrial trailers... that's been an education on a Saturday morning😂😊

Thanks for sharing Farmer Dan! Quick question- my Marshall trailer will tip perfectly when not hitched to my td20, but when sitting on the hitch, she won’t tip, any ideas what’s going on there? Plenty oil in the system, rear arms and pto work well, although I’m wondering if the draught spring needs tweaked up a turn or two? Appreciate anyone putting up these kind of helpful vids, I know it must take a fair bit of time, but they are absolute gold for so many folks. 👌

Is your control lever set correctly on the mounting bolts?
@supertramp6011
@supertramp6011 Жыл бұрын
@@CowfarmerDan I think it is Dan, as the lift arms work well, and hold position, but maybe I should try adjusting the control and see what happens. Am I correct in thinking the preload on the draught spring may also affect the raising and lowering of the linkage? I appreciate the feedback, I’m going to have a crack at adjusting it tomorrow and see what happens.
@CowfarmerDan
@CowfarmerDan Жыл бұрын
I don't think the spring will affect much without any weight on it, like an implement but it's definitely worth adjusting if it's a little out.
