Massey Ferguson 35 and 135 are true small workhorses and legends. They just keep on working. 135 is THE most produced tractor EVER. You still get all the parts and at reasonable prices. Is still produced in India, I think. It has now surpassed VW Beetle in production run time and maybe even numbers. Something was done right. Harry Ferguson taught it should be repairable in the middle of a field.

Congratulations on the new addition. She looks a nice little honest tractor to be fair. I hope you will do a series on the engine rebuild. I’ve got a Leyland 253 with a Perkins 3 cylinder in it, it breathes very heavy and pranks like a sieve, but to be fair even in the coldest of temps it fires up easily with no heat at all (doesn’t have a heater plug of thermo start)

Glad you’ve got the tractor now, looks like it’s a A3 152 like a super dexta engine being indirect. I always had it in my head the 35x had the AD3 engine. Learn somthing new every day 😂

Well wear Dan. The 35x was a great little tractor. Best of luck with it.

Good video Dan - put in a new heater plug and get a new air cleaner top and then use it. That’ll be better than any rebuild. That engine sounds sweet and has good oil pressure so, how much better will it be if you throw a £1,000 at it to rebuild the engine?

Would be VERY interesting if you tried RVS engine treatment, to see if it really "restores" worn engines "back to spec" and improves compression and running with that "nanoceramic coating", as they claim. Expensive stuff tho. The only danger seems to be it might get all the dirt and gunk moving and block oil passages. Unlikely, I think, at least if you don't use modern synthetic oil that has more detergents.

Happy new year Dan to you and all the family! The first tractor I drove was a Massey Ferguson 35X when I started work aged 15 on a dairy farm. The rest of the tractor's, a Leyland 344, David Brown and an utterly horrid Universal are not memorable for good reasons! 🤣🤣

Luckily, our MF 135 start at -10 degrees C like nothing without using the intake glow plug, let alone block heater (has one). Doesn't seem to be breathing much either, doesn't use much oil etc. When warm, starts pretty much first turn.

I have a TO35 gas model that had sat for a dozen years outside. when first started and for quite a while compression was lower range. Now after stints garden plowing, snow plowing, brush hogging over the last two years I noticed the compression has improved much higher. The rings must have finally loosened up. Your 'new' tractor may be the same.

When we used to farm years ago grandad had a 35X with a cab, and roll bar (regulation of the time) it was so slow to start and in the end we used to just roll it down the road and bump start it😇🤪 the double clutch was very useful though.

There was a Howard here, don't know what number though. Back in those days you needed the right sprockets to match the tractor, maybe yours wasn't matched to the tractor power?
