We're going to see a lot of car dealerships go out of business over the next 4 to 12 months due to way overbidding at auctions and not being able to sell inventory. This isn't just for G-wagons, but for everything. The reckoning is coming, it just needs a little bit more time.

This isn’t true across the board though. The real issue is that the book values have skyrocketed on used vehicles and customers know it. Just look at how many people drove their cars for free for 3 years and then sold their car back for a profit. At our dealership, if we offered a customer anything less than these crazy book values, there was a fairly high probability of offending them. It’s a catch 22, the customers always wanted all of the money for their trade and in the same breath accuse us of price gouging. So yes, some dealerships added market adjustments to their vehicles. There is some reasoning behind that too that makes some sense… when we were looking at the situation at my dealership, the cost of a two year old vehicle was often times a few thousand more than the brand new one sitting next to it. Why would anyone want to buy a used car at that point? It effectively makes them unsellable unless someone absolutely needed a car, right then. By making a new car MORE expensive than it’s used counterpart, we could have alternatives for folks that didn’t want to spend “new car prices.” Who wants to spend more on a used item than a new one anyway? Also, in my experience, when we are setting our budget for payroll and the other overhead expenses, it is generally based on our past performances. Fast forward to the car shortage: generally we moved 200-250 cars a month, that inventory began to plummet. Due to the market and the lack of availability, we dropped to 60-120 sold units per month. What would you do if your business and staff required double the units than you were capable of putting out? Ultimately, we stayed at the Manufactures Suggested Retail Price, without any markups, we had to make some internal adjustments and hunker down, but I don’t blame people who did what they felt they had to, to survive. If you really think people were getting fat and happy from this market, I don’t think you have a complete grasp of the situation.

@@PirateXandarrr Cry me a river. I know that dealers didn't cause the secondhand market craziness, but they absolutely took full advantage of it and average profits skyrocketed. The average profits of a new car dealer in 2020 was significantly higher than in 2019. It wasn't a game of survival, it was a game of greed. Even if it were a game of survival, I still wouldn't feel bad for dealers given that they shouldn't exist in the first place. They exercise anticompetitive behavior by their very nature. Scummy business practices aren't the exception; but the norm.

I wish Corvette dealers would suffer too. It's also treated like this fugly suv. I've seen countless videos of people struggling to find a '22 Corvette that isn't marked up to outer space by the stealership. One guy saw a pair of them at his local dealer selling for $30,000 over MSRP and the dealer stone cold refused to budge. He one day stomped in and demanded to know why they wanted those prices if they knew the cars would never sell. They refused to even talk to him. LOL. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/laebidiZnJyxaY0.html Here's a video of a guy trying to buy one USED. For over $120,000! USED?? F that stealership. I know some of these stealerships are suffering from market corrections after buying 10-12 of these Vettes and marking them up to the stratosphere. And they STILL won't negotiate! This is funny to watch. I work at a large Mercedes dealership in northern california and we were selling g63's at 100000 over msrp like hot cakes, couldn't keep them in stock. During one of the friday meetings our GSM was talking about the Illinois dealership that had like 125 g wagons in stock just buying up everything and how we needed to get some used ones back in stock. A lady who buys cars from us every 6moths or so traded in here 2021 g63 and I believe we gave her like 230k for it. Once mercedes made the announcement they were re making the g wagons we couldn't give that thing away. It sat for like 200 days and finally we sold it at like a 55k loss. I cant only imagine what the Illinois dealership is going through. I'm sure that buyer is fired.

All that matters is who you give the loan to. If you give a loan out for 150% over sticker but the chump pays his bills every month, not an issue. If you give a loan out for 75% of sticker with no repayment, good luck getting full value back after repo is all said and done.

Banks routinely give 110-115% loan to value on new cars to pay for TTL and often leave in wiggle room for service contracts. Another 5-10% for someone buying in the $100k+ luxury market does not seem like a huge cause for alarm.

There’s a saying in commercial loans. If you don’t have 50% equity, you have no equity. Giving chumps who pay 125% loans sounds great until you get a monster wave of defaults and repos. A whole bunch of credit unions are gonna go under entirely after this year. The total losses in this space is gonna end up in the billions in a year after the repos pile up and there’s no buyer for all the bad debt and deflating cars.

Because this guy is very respectfully saying things he doesn't have to say, and he is basically saying premier is not going to finance you on what they think is a bad deal, both for them *_and_* for you. He also says in so many words Premier is smarter/better informed than the other banks that did provide finance and now have to go through the hassle of repo and try to salvage their money, which would be difficult enough with these things tanking like they do (and be very aware of the ones that will undoubtedly become available in Europe, because we're paying real money for fuel over here, not the laughable sums the Americans do). I'm not saying you'll need to finance a car, on the contrary, but if you do, do it with people that will say no to a bad deal. It's not only good for them, in the end it's good for you too.

Someday, in college econ courses, they are going to talk about the great G63 bubble of 2021. Such an incredible display of stupidity by so many has hardly been seen before. I'm very much going to enjoy watching the dealers who have been engaging in this insanity go out of business over the coming year or so. They deserve it. Poor risk management, utterly incapable of understanding even basic economics. Anyone with a semi-functional brain has known this moment would come since late 2020. I would love to know which dealer in this state is long 75 G63s, although I have a few ideas. What made it even worse was the arrogance displayed by salesmen all throughout this bubble - the condescension, the down-talk, the refusal to entertain any price lower than the asking - nothing makes me happier than knowing these guys are stuck with an entire parking lot full of used G63s they paid 75-100k over for that will soon be worth half...or less. If you are going to run your business so poorly and be so willfully ignorant of the market in which you participate...you don't deserve to be in business and shouldn't be. In a market collapse, capital returns to its rightful owners. You are seeing that right now.

I understand wanting to make money but the market has completely shut down most of my aspirations to buy anytime soon. Money is more expensive and a lot of people want to recoup the insane markups they paid. Bid a 2004, blue 360 Spyder with the F1 to almost $97K on BaT and didn't meet reserve. Same happened on the last 3 Porsche C4S - got to pre-market explosion pricing and didn't meet the reserve to close the deal. Have to wonder how many people are going to end up drowning in their car financing over the next few years.

If you have an excellent credit score and/or cash you should be able to pick up a good deal. Porsche Cayennes are starting to drop in price and I think the 911 and Caymans should drop in the near future. At least I hope they drop enough to pick something up for a decent price.

As a consumer, this is a great reason why dealers shouldn't exist. Manufacturers should sell direct at MSRP and cut out the middle man. If demand is high, then make more, don't charge more and pad your earnings. Sure there were supply chain issue at this time, but in general the above reasoning hold true.

IRS section 179 tax credit and PPP money. Every model owns one because they can deduct the full amount in the first year to offset their only fans profits. After the first year of the car was over and other new things like Hummer EVs come around they need to ditch it and get the next new thing and another big deduction. More views, more likes, and more money.

@@fcscouto when you sign up for OF you get tax information. Almost everyone uses tax prep software or an accountant. Everyone knows about heavy vehicle full depreciation. This isn’t some new or obscure tax law. The Hummer used to be the poster child for this tax law. Now it’s the G. Only Fans models are definitely more financially savvy. Hence why they don’t work W2 jobs like the overtaxed working peasants who punch clocks. The KZfaq influencer life is built full around your life being your business and therefore being able to deduct your whole life. Everyone who does this stuff seriously and makes any money that matters knows all of this. Why give the money to the IRS when you can buy a G wagon instead. patient prospective G63 buyer here. my ceiling is $150k for a 2019+ just waiting a few more months before the prices start dropping even more. if you look online, inventory here in chicago is flooded with G63's (would love to know who this dealer is), im guessing 2019 and 2020 leases are up and dealers aren't willing to come to terms with losses just yet. i think it's ridiculous spending $50k over sticker on that car, especially when the GLC63 (same motor) is deprecating pretty hard.

I totally agree, when I bought my hellcat earlier this year I had a very hard cutoff that the car had to be less than $55k and have less than 30k miles and only 1 owner with a consistent service history. I was seeing hellcats around that time going for around $55k-$56k and I refused to pay any price above $55k and I was able to find mine for about $52k with 26-27k miles and one owner. I got is and got a marginally decent interest rate for that time (now that rate is considered amazing cus of fed rate hikes) and I couldn't be happier. While the hellcat situation is different from the g wagon because they're still raising in price because of the discontinuation of hemi v8s I still got my car for a good price because I was willing to wait 3-4 months from my initial start of search around November 2021. I was almost about to buy a jaguar XJL supercharged with everything on it because I wasn't getting a hellcat for my price range but after the jag dealer refused to come down to $45k from $49k for a car they had for 8 months and was originally $43k I managed to find a hellcat and bought it. Although, funnily enough the jag ended up selling for $42k 4 months later lol.

Watching this guys other videos, since I'm a finance major but am not working in finance, and historically along with how current repo rates are climbing a lot I think the economy is about to fucking plummet soon due to higher supply and unaffordable interest rates for sub prime borrowers which will be great for people looking ot get a car with good credit lol. I'm hoping it happens in like 12-18 months so by the time I'm preparing to get another car to add to my garage it will still be cheap lol.
