This is the first time I've entered a vinyl community contest. Mazzy has such a charming channel, plus it's an easy one. 5 random records pulled from the shelves without looking. The good thing about the records I ended up with is that, if you like them, most can be found for $1. Solo Daryl Hall loves you!

I'm glad you pulled Jeannie C. Riley ! My mother would play that record on her day off as she cleaned the house. I have memories coming home from school ,walking through the front door, and this record was blasting on her console stereo.

One of my favorite things to do with my son is to hit the record shops. I don't think we ever look at new LPs except to laugh about the prices. He's going to be 40, and we still love hitting the racks. It's kind of funny how I now look for some of his usual favorites, and he looks for some of mine.

I agree with your comments about listening to vinyl. I was originally anti-CD when they came out. I thought I would never abandon my records for CDs especially since I had all components for LP or tapes. I had the turntable, an 8track and cassette player and recorders. I copied my LPs to cassette or 8tracks which allowed me to preserve the records condition.

When all there was were LPs, Cassettes, 8tracks, or Reel to Reel, they usually came with cover art , liner notes, etc. I generally bought LPs, an occasional cassette and 8 track. But I would read every word on the cover, the posters, or inserts, as well as every word on the disc label. I even tead the front and backs of LPs i didnt buy. I learned volumes of information and I used to score prizes from radio stations that had trivia contests. I also used to trade my LPs with the DJs so they could use the songs in their contests.

I'm glad you like unapologetic southern talkin country women, cause you found one here, lol. I know what you mean about them recording everything Elvis ever did or said. When he died they had stuff on the radio all day long for weeks, and my mom recorded all of it- on 8 track tapes no less. Wonder what she ever did with those....

Jeanie C. is my kind of dollar album. I worked with Jim Stafford a million years ago. He had a line "People think this is a Southern accent. There is no Southern accent. People talk like this anywhere you find poverty and ignorance."

Not Oats! Best line of the day and so true 😀 I like that Santana album and recently picked up an upgrade copy. I have 3/5 of your pulls including the Jeannie C Riley album. Love hearing everyone’s take on their records. Thank you for contributing. 🎸🥁🎹

We had the Jeannie C album growing up. PTA was a big hit when I was a kid. I love compilation albums. I have a nice collection of them. K-tel is really cool. Edited down versions of songs sold through cheesy TV marketing.

I love the idea of talking about cheap but great records. So many classic records, even ones with 15 million copies sold, are being sold for 12 dollars. I see poor copies of Boston for that price everywhere. It’s ridculious, it’s so cool to hear of great records for a buck.

Reader's Digest and Time life always licensed the original hits. It's helpful to know some of the legit labels that don't compile re-recordings.

I had listened to that song all the way through and she just put her sassy attitude in the lyrics in the last part of the song. Well, Mr. Harper couldn't be here

That History of British Rock record is interesting. Recently at my towns record shop, I picked up an album also called “History of British Rock.” The cover is different, it has a big UK flag on it. However it has something really fascinating. It has a BEATLES song, a really old one called “Ain’t She Sweet.” It was recorded in like 1960 or 1961, before even Ringo joined the band. Outside of this album, I think the only place you can find it is the Anthology 1 CD. Wikipedia says there’s a 45 of it.

Mazzy makes this look easy. I did an entry and I looked liked I was pulling them out of my ass. I'm not familiar with that John Hall album. The John Hall album produced by Robert Fripp is great. That Santana album is great. I love the first four Santana albums. I have a lot of compilations.
