Hi Topper. I 've never seen that Johnny Cash album..nice find. Sadly around my area some of the antique malls closed down a few years ago due to selling out to developers. The vendors were given notice and some sold their merchandise at huge discounts. I missed out on two glorious opportunities. I got this news from the people who were going through the last remaining stuff. Knowledge, timing and lots of cash on hand is the key in scoring big time. Keep posting records from your collection. You are always educating us. Cheers and Peace to everyone.

Hey Topper! You are always entertaining even if you feel you're not. It doesn't matter if you don't have the og press or expensive purchase it's you that I come here for. You have a wonderful personality and tell great stories and life experiences. Even if you're not finding stuff to show I'd love to hear about the stuff you already have. You're always good to say when you found something however many years ago. You don't owe anybody anything so if you're not feeling up to it then listen to your gut. I for one would love for you to continue! I have that Johnny Cash album and I really enjoy that one. I've been getting a purge stack together and one or two of his albums will be in that stack but Story Songs of Trains and Rivers will stay in the collection! I made the mistake of purchasing a 4 Men With Beards pressing of Aretha Now in 2016 when I got back in to purchasing vinyl. I didn't know or didn't pay attention to pressings. The first time I played it I knew right away that it just didn't sound good. I was able to unload that album and that really turned me off from that label so I stay away from it. Good advice! Stay well! And keep on enjoying the music!

Topper, I have an idea for you. How about doing some in depth reviews of albums. Concentrate on only an album or two per episode of an artist, or compare a couple of albums of two artists of a particular type of music. Take a deeper dive drawing on your collection. The beauty of this is you listen critically to what you already have (and you don’t have to spend any money to create content for your channel).

Hey Topper. Thanks for sharing with us how you discovered Big Star. Those first 2 albums are necessary and I’m so glad you picked those up! Kings of power pop. Yeah, I had the 4MWB press of #1 Record and I traded it in. It was an awful press. Somehow I found a late 70s 2-LP press of these glorious albums while I was in Washington last year. Pricy, but store credit was put to good use! Nice update! Peace!

I learned about Big Star in the 90s so I bought that CD with both of those albums. It was no big deal. 10 years later it clicked in my head and I became a fan. I have a OG of the first album but I lost my cover to the album. I did have a chance to own Radio City but I bought something else. Your dogs really serenade you. Topper, we tune in for you, the music is great but we enjoy you. Keep the videos coming. Steve

Hang in there, my friend. Times are tough. I've been lucky so far this summer. And as far as the expensive albums go, I prefer giving a home to used albums. And I'll probably stop buying soon because of financial reasons until next year. But there are themes I can use to talk about and show my collection. Don't give up my friend, whether you know it or not you are a guru to a lot of us. And we love seeing and hearing from you. Until next time Topper. Peace my brother.

Hey Topper - you sound a little fatigued. Probably not a bad idea to take a short break. But I tell you, the best thing about the VC (to me) is seeing and hearing people talk about the records they've found or are listening to. Doesn't matter what the record is, as long as the discussion is good, and you're always tops (see what I did there?) in that department. Anyway, I enjoyed see the records you showed this time around. I always liked Dolly Parton. Besides being a good musician she seems to be a genuinely good human being. I picked up those two Big Star records recently because, yeah, they were affordable and I've heard good things about Craft as well. I don't make a ton of videos, but I usually talk about what I'm spinning rather than what I just bought. Don't buy into the VC arms race. Talk about what you're listening to. Give the pups a scratch for me - they sound adorable! Cheers, Tom

Hey hey Topper!! Always love your videos. Hope you don’t stop making them. I love seeing your stuff, old and new. I get to see things I never normally see. You don’t have to have new stuff to make videos on. You could do themed videos like “top 10 most expensive” or “top 10 ones you wished you’d never got” or “your house is on fire (god forbid) and you have 30secs to pull 10 LP’s to save them. Which do you pull?” Or you could pick an artist and show all the stuff you have on that one artist e.g. a video on your Wings collection, say. If I think of more ideas, I’ll let you know. Love your vids!! Keep orrrrn keepin’ orrrrnn!!!

Personally, I know 99.9% of the ultra-rare records people pull out on most of these other channels are completely not my taste at all. The fact that a record is 'rare', that simple economics have caused it to be expensive or logistics makes it hard to find, that barely interests me at all, unless there's a whole lot of backstory. What I much prefer, is hearing someone's experience with a record they already own or have recently been able to find... the emotional, personal attachment. When it really *means* something. That's how I feel about every record I own, and if the shops are all closing/getting too expensive, I'd love to keep hearing more about your collection and the meaning the records hold for you.

Big Star is my favorite band. Most of the reissues are pretty poor, including the Four Men With Beards and others. The German Line reissues from the late seventies/ eighties are excellent. I stopped making videos quite a while ago because youtube kept pulling them down, but I will say that my thrift store finds were my most watched vids. Trying to keep up with The Jones is not a great reason to bow out. Just show albums you love and tell stories. That's why folks watch. There is no place near me to find records any more either, but I'm going to start my channel up again very soon. We need positive people right now. Just some thoughts. Take care...

So it's a 'no brainer' to spend $20 on a CD/DVD package that'll likely be worthless on the resale market, compared to spending $40 on a Vinyl set that might actually be in demand in the future? Maybe it's just me, but I feel that buying physical copies of any digital music is basically a waste of money? Big Star is awesome though! When I started collecting vinyl again one of the first albums I bought was some 180g reissue of Big Star!
@oddboxTopper
@oddboxTopper 3 жыл бұрын
It’s never been about resale value to me. I buy what I want to keep in my personal collection for my own personal enjoyment. Yes, I know that vinyl is very collectible these days, but I wanted the DVD. I have a good collection of DVD audio, digital concert recordings and 5.1 surround remixes of classic recordings. Many of which I already own on vinyl. I have nothing against someone buying for resale if that’s their motive. I am not a seller! I trade and purge from time to time but in the end, I collect what makes ME happy 😃
