Thanks for sharing, Melinda. It brought back a lot of great memories for me. My family also had a Motorola console system, although it was a different model. It's long gone now, but I do have an even older Admiral console from the early 1950's that was passed down to my by my Uncle. Now that I'm retired, I'm gonna get it up and working again. I also really like your sliding storage. That's perfect!! ~Frank

Just discovered your blogs, you have a very natural pleasant way of presenting. Love the pull out drawers for Vinyl, so easy to view covers. I still own the same YAMAHA receiver you have although in storage now as I rediscovered vinyl for my main music so have now recently purchased a rega 3 turntable, marantz pm6006 amp and Q acoustic 3020i speakers, amazing sound for just a mere £1500, a audiophile loves music & not how much it costs and your obviously a true audiophile. You have a beautiful home and blog with a new fan.

How great! I love those record storage cabinets and how out of the way the records are, all the while being able to flip through them like you are at a record store. The John Lennon One To One poster is AWESOME (a word I rarely will use!). Seeing the 1967 stereo console brought back memories, as my mom also had one of those (around 1970 I think) - and I used to play my records on it a lot when I was a kid. Funny how the consoles contained only that teeny tiny space on the left side to house a very small vinyl collection! Great video, Melinda... thanks for sharing.

Thank you Joe. For you to call a John Lennon poster I own "awesome" is a huge compliment. Mom use to store the Christmas albums in that little tiny space in the console and I'm glad I still have it. Take care.

The built in shelves are awesome as are your record drawers. It sounds like you have plenty of storage. And your family vintage stereo cabinet turntable was awesome to see. Hey Melinda!! What better way to kick off my 3 day weekend than with a brand new video from you! I loved the inside look into your listening areas as well as the looks at the equipment. I've been asked to do a video like this before but just never thought that anything I had was THAT special as to warrant a video and I'm way more natural speaking about records and music than I am at talking about equipment. I know name brands but models always confuse me. LOL. But the more that I've gotten to know everyone on here the more I believe that they aren't so much looking to be blown away by what we have as that they are just curious what we use to spin our glorious records, so maybe i'll do my own someday. It'd be the shortest video I've ever done! LOL! I LOVE your shelves and the record store feeling they allow you to have! SO JEALOUS! And that Motorola console! Wow! LOVE that! My grandparents had one exactly like that years ago but got rid of it, and my father in law recently bought one at an antique store and even though he owns no records, wont give it to me. He's a big antique collector. Go figure...LOL! Loved this vide and it was so great to see you! Have a great weekend!
@MelindaMurphy5 жыл бұрын
I did this video because I had a high number of requests. I knew I didn't have anything fancy. But most people have been very nice and left great and helpful feedback. I obviously don't know a ton about stereo equipment. I am much more comfortable talking about the vinyl. The console upstairs is very sentimental to me and I loved showing that. Your father in law should totally give you that console. Lol. The record storage is my favorite feature and we had them custom made for the records. Thanks so much for always being so encouraging. I highly recommend you show us more of the Mancave. Lol. It would probably bring you to the 500 subs. Have a great 3 days off.

I’ve been asked about it before. Tonight was a great start to the 3 day weekend, dinner and a movie with my wife! Great night! Hopefully the rest is as good, and I hope that you guys have a good weekend as well!

Love my Denon 300F, (DL-110 cart.), too. As the old stereo store guy Jerry, (now retired), used to say... turntables should be automatic. Shortly after we got it, we found a B&O 1800, at an estate sale. So, back in the box it went. Recently it just went back into the system. Wow what a soundstage. We are playing it through a McIntosh set-up from the late 80’s, (another estate sale find). Best part is the XRT-18 speakers. I grew up with my parents Magnavox console. Christmas records in July. My parents had to love me. Thanks for the great videos. You’re inspiring me to make some videos, too.....stay tuned.

So far, my husband tolerates the vinyl. Lol. We caught the old console on a good day. Some days it won't work at all. Thanks for the compliment on the vinyl storage. I was very excited to have that done.

I love the drawers for your albums. I have always kept mine on shelving units. I had a house fire back in 1986 and because the albums were so tightly packed in the shelves, most of them survived the heat. Some that were on the ends and a few that were sticking out a bit didn't get so lucky.

A house fire would be horrible. I'm sorry that happened to you. I'm glad that the majority of your records were salvageable. Thank you!

Great band on that shirt! Melinda great audio setup. Nice turntable, the Ortofon 2m Red is one of my favorite cartridges. It performs great, for a great price. Love the built in shelving, it looks awesome! Love that record storage. I also grew up with a console, cool you still have it. Great work on the video, Thank You for the post!

@@Love_Street No I have not. I have a Rega Planar 1 with the 2m Red, have been thinking about trying the the 2M blue soon though. It is about time to change my stylus so now would be a good time to try the blue.

Great tour and set up. The console unit is vey cool. A nice antique piece of furniture that is still functional. Those units have made a comeback in recent years people seeking them out at thrift stores and having them fix to working order. I have a friend who has a TV repair shop whose big business in recent years is to repair such units. I have to make a video of my stereo set up. I had to put it back together and with patience I was able to find some really high end equipment at thrift stores. Enjoyed the video, I am about to post one myself.

I look forward to seeing your set up. These old consoles are hard to work on and there isn't anybody in our area that does that so you are lucky. Thanks so much for being so kind and commenting on my videos. You are truly one of the good guys!

@@MelindaMurphyYes I will put together such a video. For now here is a clip which you can heard how the equipment sounds. This is an instrumental piece form the Command Records which featured mainly jazzy instrumental music of the late 1950s to mid 60s. An example of my more alter ego eclectic music taste. This piece you will hear in this video has a combination feel of driving down the rocky mountain California coast line and 1970s TV theme detective drama. If you can hook this up into your sound system the dynamics of the sound will come out a lot more than just listening to it on your small device. Even from hearing it on You Tube the sound is great, imagine hearing it in my vinyl room. I hope to have the equipment video posted by early next week. Have a great day. Nice looking old console! We still use a 1968 Magnavox console I had recapped and and I refurbished the record changer on. It works great, not audiophile quality for sure but plenty good enough for us. Thanks for the tour :)

Haters...yeah, it's the sad frustrating reality of KZfaq and an irritating one at that but it seems to become more commonplace the longer you're on the platform. I don't get why people would give Melinda a thumbs down though. Too bad you couldn't give the thumbs down to the thumbs down ;)

This was a very fun video! I enjoyed it quite a bit! I love the dog statue! It looks very similar to the RCA dog! I have no personal experience with Ortofon styli, yet, but I will be getting the Red eventually when I have the funds! I’ve heard that the Blue sounds brighter and really brings out the music more but as I said, I currently have no personal experience! That console from when you were a kid is freggin cool and amazing that it still works after all these years of good lovin’! Here’s to many more!

Thank you. I love the console too. It is just moody sometimes. It doesn't always work well. The dog is Nipper the RCA dog. Thanks for sharing what you know about the 2m blue. There has been alot of positive feedback in the comments. Have a great night!

Maybe someday I can upgrade to custom cabinets…. Keep on rockin’!

It is very cool that you got the console. I think the 8 track tape deck would be really cool to have as well. I don't really have advice. We would look at KZfaq videos, and go on console forums to figure things out. Everybody is very helpful. Best wishes with it. I am suppose to be getting a free jukebox this weekend. I hope we can get it playing too.

Beautiful cupboard/drawer for your vinyl. It has inspired me for an upcomming project. I am not an audiofile but I love good sounding music. It all needs to be decent and not over the top. As a teener I have had quite some gear but I sold it off in my early 20's because I wanted to live abroad. Now 20 years later I have returned home and start to listen to music again with a tad more quality. As a re-starter I would not want to spend more that 2k for a whole set. I just bought an receiver Onkyo R-N855 for very little money. The compact size and decent sound is beautiful when hooked up to the right speakers. My brother has some of Asterix's menhirs (Canton Ergo 91) and I tried with them - I did not sound bad at all. I like the receiver with internet radio. This allowes me to tune to radio stations from places I want to keep in touch with. So, I am looking for a used CD player, and new speakers that are priced decent - they also need to have the right colour. Colours like Walnut I prefer now. Further I am looking for a Vintage turntable from the 80's or 90's. I don't like the plastic shells of today.
