I picked up Gary Puckett's "Lady Willpower" on 45 a while ago and it's a favorite when I feel like playing a single. Joe Cocker is awesome. Besides having some great stuff of his own, he's my favorite cover of the Beatles.

This record show looks amazing-I want to go!! I miss the one I used to frequent every fall in my old neighborhood in New England called the Rock n Roll Yard Sale. I’m happy these types of still exist. When finding almost everything is a click away, the thrill of the hunt crate digging (whether records or comics) is still so much more satisfying.

You had a well behaved crowd at your sale. On the west coast , the collecters looking to resell at profit and retailers crowd out the regular customers. It's life or death for them !

that may have happened prior to my attendance. I attended the show on the first day of the event, but that morning had been for record collector club members only. I suspect that means all the big ticket wheeling and dealing might have happened before I got there. I got there 15 minutes after it opened for the general public.

I met Al Kooper about 10 years ago in Boston. He's as cool as he looks. Also met John Sebastian on my wedding day. He just walked by. " I asked, John Sebastian? What the fuck are you doing here?" He comment on my poor greeting, shook my hand and walked away.

A little more on Al Kooper. He was a member of a band called the Royal Teens (number 3 hit song Shorts Shorts) with Bob Gaudio who went on to form the 4 Seasons and produce Neil Diamond for many years among a slew of other artists including Michael Jackson. Al Kooper went on to form Blood Sweat and Tears. Just a little more info I felt was so important.

We do have record collection tours on Patreon. Tours of everything, actually. We go through the entire media collection item by item each month for about an hour, so there are around five hours of tours currently on our Patreon page that unlock at five dollars. People constantly ask for collection tours, and that’s not what we want to focus of the main channel to be, so that’s been our compromise.

Hey Heath A record fair and outside broadcast all in one, i like it!! Good haul you got yourself there, and at some great prices and deals too. A lot of the older vinyl is more durable, so even if you have some minor issues with the record visually you'll normally find it will play just fine, especially if you give it a nice clean beforehand to get rid of 50years+ of grime, ha ha I think you're right about the interest peaking now, seeing it here in the UK too, although i collect vinyl for the music first and foremost then to satisfy my collecting bug, so it's only going to benefit people like us in the long term. Cheers Dean

So far everything plays fine, including the Vanilla Fudge album that I was most concerned about. Some of them have a bit of noise due to needle wear and scuffs and don't sound quite as clean as I would prefer, but that's OK, I can always look for better, cleaner copies at future shows.

Great finds. I'm curious about being allowed to use the flashlight feature from your cell phone to check out vinyl/cover conditions ? Also are you allowed to bring in a battery operated phonograph player to listen to the record? I used to see this being a common trend about ten years ago.

I've watched the video twice it's quite good. First things first. I really do enjoy your record hauls. For me it's not so much about the records but the music. I find it's albums I'd want to give a listen to, bands I already love (lovin' spoonfuls), or just songs I've just discovered (Kicks!) The little tidbits on each album is great. I love the Everley Brothers, and will admit back in the day would get them mixed with Buddy Holly, same era and popular songs about Sue and Suzy. Anyway keep up the good work.

Thanks, Mr. Mason! I loved making this video, and getting to share some of my passion for music with the viewer makes me really happy. I think my love for the vinyl era really comes through. I know what you mean about it being the music more than the actual records for you. So many of these albums are not available on CD and are now only streaming or digital, which is a low down dirty shame.Thanks for the positive feedback, it means more than you could possibly know, especially when I step outside of the movie talk that a lot of people want from this channel.

Though vinyl can be space-consuming, the discovery aspect of crate diving for vinyl is one of the most rewarding and fun aspects of the hobby for me. The Star Wars posters used to be in a different room and have now been moved to the blue room. They've popped up in videos before, but they've only been in their current location for a couple of weeks.

Border Lord, Kris's third album, less well received than his first two strong ones with many of his most famous songs. Border Lord wasn't reissued on CD, at least in the US, and it's harder to find as an LP now. Everly Brothers, singer Andy Williams owned those Cadence recordings and leased them to several labels. How did a young person like you get so interested in such old music?

Some of the records you bought were ones I picked up in the late 80s for similar prices. One store by me was a sea of cheap records. I miss that. With few exceptions, new records are too rich for me. Have had some decent luck in the used bins but nothing like I used to. My vinyl purchases are way down.
@CerealAtMidnight
@CerealAtMidnight 5 жыл бұрын
I've been collecting vinyl for 25 years and it seems like the prices of vintage vinyl are finally starting to drop back to what they were in the nineties when I started. Not everyone has gotten that memo, though, and I'm still seeing a lot of places pricing used vinyl at 10 dollars and going up from there. I think the prices will continue to drop because the youth/hipster market seems to prefer buying brand new pressings on pretty colored vinyl at places like Urban Outfitters. I didn't see a lot of people my age or younger (and I'm not young) at this show looking for vinyl, though I did see a few. Most everyone was in their fifties or sixties. I think the idea of crate diving to look for cool, obscure, or less-marketable albums is going back to being a niche thing, and I'm cool with that. I've built most of my record collection by hitting thrift stores, yard sales, and shows like this one, digging and hunting for deals.

@@CerealAtMidnight I'm glad to hear it's dropping in some areas. I'm seeing inventory start to pile up here so I figure it's only a matter of time. Same for new records. Local stores are holding a ton in unsold record store day exclusives, special color variants, etc. As a store owner I'd be sweating about that. You want a good selection but you also need it to move. Those RSD releases cost them a lot.
@CerealAtMidnight
@CerealAtMidnight 5 жыл бұрын
For the life of me, I don't understand how record store day is still a thing. I understand why it started, and it's a great thing in principle: getting people to support local record stores, putting money into their community and keeping record labels afloat in a digital age, etc, but it seems to have been completely swallowed by the commercial machine. The variants and exclusives are maddening! It was only a matter of time before that model became to big to be sustainable. I don't know if we're there yet, but I agree with what you're saying about more and more inventory just sitting there. This past record store day, there was an exclusive vinyl pressing of the Knight Rider TV soundtrack. As cool as that is, what's the market for something like that? Well, outside of me, because I need that record...
@damianp564
@damianp564 5 жыл бұрын
@@CerealAtMidnight I hear ya. We have a giant record store here that I don't visit often because they are generally quite expensive. I went a few months ago for the first time in a year and their in-store RSD inventory alone must have been in the tens of thousands of dollars...including about 8 copies of that Knight Rider soundtrack and about 8-10 of Creepozoids. Fun soundtracks but....c'mon...

Oh man, I was just about to bring up the infamous Dylan/Donovan beef just as you started talking about it. I also recently read a thread that suggests that 'In my Room' by the Beach Boys is the genesis for the emo music genre, who would have thought?! :D
@CerealAtMidnight
@CerealAtMidnight 5 жыл бұрын
That's funny about In My Room! It's emo, for sure, but I can think of a lot of fifties songs that are just as mopey. In fact, my dad had an entire 8 track album called "Tear Jerkers" when I was a kid and it was nothing but fifties ballads of teen angst. There's even a Sinatra song called "I'll Never Smile Again." If that ain't emo, I don't know what is! But Brian Wilson certainly seemed to excel at writing sad songs with beautiful melodies, that's for sure.
